  1. Been using an Inkbird with a Finnex Titanium heater for about 1 year and have had no issues at all. The metal probe is covered in coralline, but that hasn't stopped it from being spot on as I test the temp with a Hanna thermometer about twice a month to make sure it is still spot on before I do my water changes.
  2. on a 6 bulb I ran 4 ATI Blue+ and 2 ATI Coral+, but that is fairly blue. Could swap out one of the ATI Blue+ for a ATI AquaBlue Special which is much whiter.
  3. I'm with D805 as I too am wondering what you are doing to maintain ALK/CAL/MAG? Maybe time to prep for a TOTM nomination post
  4. They are palys for sure and I don't think they have a specific name. I had them once and found them to be extremely invasive in my tank. I had them completely separated from the rest of the tank on my overflow and they still took over everything little by little as they outgrew most other corals. Thankfully they are kinda pretty. Good luck with them.
  5. I always had great luck with the 5000K range of bulbs. I got the tip from Melevs Reef and macro grew like crazy. I personally would use the Cree led 5000k bulbs. I run a DIY scrubber so I currently used leds because of the design otherwise that is what I would use.

  8. Agree with what Jon said above. I personally would remove the membrane and see if water comes out since the Sediment/Carbon Canisters really are just pass through canisters regardless of media or not. Are you sure you have the input on the membrane canister correct from the second carbon canister?
  9. Good catch! Didn't even notice the holes until you mentioned it.
  10. I had this issue when I had my bean animal setup on my 150G. Jon brings up great points and I too think your secondary is pulling too much water before the full siphon is starting on the first. Close off the secondary 3/4 on the valve and tune the full siphon first. If at full siphon you are getting water down the emergency then slowly start to tune the secondary to adjust to stop the emergency from pulling water. The key with this setup is getting the full siphon started first. I initially made the mistake of having the primary and secondary the same height and that caused me a bunch of heartache if the power went out or I stopped my return because sometimes the secondary would start full siphon and then start to gurgle a lot. To fix it I slightly raised the secondary and it never happened again.
  11. Been using the Avast ATO with their diphram pump for many years (even being stored for 5 years unused) and it works like it did the first day I bought it. Then again I have had a Tunze ATO and it worked well too, but the design of the Avast was better to me with it just having a tube that senses pressure instead of a moving float switch.
  12. I was able to trick my clown by feeding by the anemone, but it is hit or miss. In time most clowns will host a BTA.
  13. Welcome back to the East Coast I guess lol. I am in Stafford right next to Quantico. Our area is split with the WAMAS group and the Richmond Reefers group. There are many stores that area good, but all of them are 20-40 miles away from Quantico. I personally am a huge fan of Supreme Reefs right now and what Ben has going on. But we have numerous phenomenal vendors that will go out of their way to help you out. Aaron
  14. Good possibility. I am right across from North Stafford High on 610.
  15. Welcome back Bill. I am just north of you in Stafford.
  16. Welcome to WAMAS. That out of the way you can't post an introduction like that and not have a picture or ten ha ha. I can't wait to see this setup.
  17. Oh man you are right next to Matt in Ellicot City. Go see his system before you make any decisions for sure. There are many in Columbia, Crofton, Glen Burnie, etc on here too that have stunning setups as well. AIO are great little starter tanks, but really limit you on fish, so don't be in a rush to get a tang or such that needs something much larger in the long run. I know I started with a simple 20L many years ago and thus far have went up to a 150G display with a 55G sump. Me personally I would start with a simple drilled 40B setup as that will save cost compared to paying for an AIO like IM/Red Sea. 36x18 is really easy to work with and learn from if wanting to stay smaller. It is always hard in the beginning as smaller can be harder to take care of, but at the same time is much cheaper for all the parts needed vs. larger is a little more forgiving, but adds cost for equipment and such. Just got to decided what your budget is overall for getting your feet wet in this hobby.
  18. I used to buy from getyourpods.com and now they I think have rebranded or been sold to royalreefs.com. Not sure if it is the same product, but the bags from getyourpods used to be loaded. Could give it a shot. http://royalreefs.com/amphipods-and-copepods/ And same as Tom, this is by no means an endorsement.
  19. Hopefully DaveS here on the forums will chime in. He has done alot of Scuba stuff with the members of this forum.
  20. Dang I am sooooo glad I have never had one of these. This worm is the stuff nightmares of made of! Good luck!
  21. Welcome to WAMAS and the world of SW aquariums. Due to your tank size, I believe we were chatting on one of the Facebook Groups (Aaron Dina on Facebook) and if so glad you took my advice on joining up here as this is one of the best groups for knowledge and information that I have found in my 15 years in and out of the SW hobby. Please take a minutes to post some specifics about your current setup and if you haven't done so already make sure to become a paid member to gain access to the rest of the forum. I can honestly say the 20 spent on a membership here was recouped within my first few months with this amazing club! Aaron
  22. Wow this is amazing work done by Walt and his team. Looking forward to following ADE now that I know about it.
  23. So cool. I miss having a mated pair of these. Luckily the fry are fairly easy to take care of compared to other species like clown. I never did anything to try to keep them, but ended up finding a bunch of them living in my sump fuge area. Ended up giving away the babies that made it or traded them in for store credit.
  24. Got both of the alvelopora and the emerald on fire zoas. Thanks for the great deals!!
