Excited to have found the club...
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to AndrewRyan's topic in Welcome to WAMAS: FAQ / FYI / Hobby News
Welcome to the group. Its good to have another person who is down by me as you will notice the majority of the group is 30 minutes or more north of Fredericksburg. That said I am over in Stafford and would be more than willing to give you a hand if you need anything as I help 2 others in Fredericksburg currently. -

ro/di waste water problem insanely to much
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to Reeling Reefer's topic in General Discussion
RODI units as a whole waste a ton of water sadly. You seem to already know your issues of needing a booster pump and even adding a second membrane. I have both and it has drastically reduced my waste water. I know many here actually reuse their waste water so maybe that is an option to feel like less water has been wasted. -
Definitely in line for a Male/Female pair for my 25 lagoon.

What is everyone's thought on getting a thread/sticky for people who have generators, battery backup air pumps, etc that they are willing to let fellow reefers use in emergency situations? I know I have a whole home generator and have a spare portable generator I could lend to people in need during power outages. That said I am down in Stafford which will be a turn off for some, but I have it for use. I know generators are high dollar items, but would hate for someone to lose their reef for a long power outage.

Where to get replacement impellers for old Tunze Stream
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to bshriver's topic in General Discussion
Best bet is to contact Roger Vitko at Tunze USA. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk -
This is simply amazing. This fish has been on my bucket list for a while now and I am in the process of redoing my entire 25 lagoon for them. Now I have the possibility of getting some aquaculture ones from a local member. The amount of work and dedication to this is just out of this world. So very cool!!

@epleedsany help here?

It looks close to my JF limelight hydnopora. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

Used it and it did help with bubble algae a little before I had to stop using it. It bottomed out my nutrients too fast and starting browning out my acros and gave me cyano. That said you have a much larger system so it might be easier to use. All in all I didn't lose a single coral even while using it, just didn't like the side effects. Hope someone else has a better review for you. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

Teacher here for this new reefer. We will get him in reef worthy fighting shape in no time. -
I use the Giesemann bulbs and ATI. KZ I hear makes good bulbs, but never used them. Each company has a different name for their bulbs so you have to look at the spectrum to make sure it's what you want. Case in point ATI Blue+ is the same as Giesemann Actinic. And then ATI True Actinic and Giesemann Super Actinic are both the UV spectrum bulbs. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

Been running an 8 bulb for years and there is no best layout I can tell you that. A lot has to come down to what you want it to look like. Obviously Blue+ is probably the best T5 bulb ever made so it is heavily used. So you are probably going to run 4-6 of them. Now you said you like it more blue so I am going to lean on you running 5-6 of them. I would then ask what do you want the daylight hours to look like? Coral+ is a fairly white bulb (think of this as a 50% Blue and White bulb), Purple+ is the next least white bulb (think of this as a 70% Blue and the rest white), and lastly the Aquablue Special which basically has very little blue in it at all to the eye. That all said I typically run one Coral+ or 1 Purple+ in mine. Lastly is UV which has two purposes in my book. First off coral fluorescence and secondly is the bulb has far less PAR so it helps to bring down the PAR numbers slightly. That said the UV bulb has the shortest lifespan so it definitely needs changing every 10-12 months. I typically run 2 of these. Also worth noting do not change all your bulbs at once when it comes time. Do them in pairs over a 3-4 days each. New bulbs have a lot more PAR than old ones. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

I personally have an 8 year old Vee Gee Refractometer and it has always been spot on with 35ppt reference fluid with no adjustments needed. That said even though it has ATC it seems to not calibrate well unless the reference fluid is closer to the needed 77 degrees. Last week I went ahead bought the Tropic Marin Floating Hydrometer so I had something to use as a separate reference. To my surprise my Refractometer was barely off compared to the floater. Refractor was a hair under 1.026, between 34-35 PPT and floater was two ticks over 1.026 which seems like a close enough outcome for me. So it seems to me you definitely get what you pay for with the expensive Vee Gee Refractometer. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

John and his team at BRK would be a great resource as they do a lot of Koi and pond aquatic sales. Not familiar with any specific pond group though. I would bet there are FB groups though. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

New to Wamas
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to R.andrews89's topic in Welcome to WAMAS: FAQ / FYI / Hobby News
Welcome. The community here is fantastic to say the least. Lots of knowledge here in the area and more than that lots of nice people who are more than willing to help out other fellow reefers. As the person before me stated the paid area is where all the sale/trade/group buy and member only chats are. Well worth the 20 dollars especially if you plan on attending meetings since the membership gets you in the door for no extra cost. Care to elaborate on your setup/intentions. We also love pictures here. -
Awesome. They have helped me a few times on there with my controller and dosers.

SC Aquariums makes a 90 Cube that is 36x24x24, but that will have to be bought new as I am sure they are rare to find used. My buddy Matt just set one up as an in wall and it is turning out very nice.

Honestly you are better off trying to join the GHL FB Groups or Reef2Reef as Vinny, Ditto, and a few others monitors both of those and they are very helpful. https://www.reef2reef.com/forums/ghl-advanced-technology.900/
