  1. I too have a bunch in my sump and tank. My trigger eats them and seems to readily enjoy them.
  2. If someone were to take these couldn't they do a FW dip before adding to a clean system to knock off the ICH? I know you still leave an opening for disaster, but just a thought. I wouldn't mind helping out, but I will be moving soon myself and having to tear down my 150G and 24G.
  3. My 40B QT was the same. It had cardboard stuck to the silicone. I just made that the back side and filled it up with no issues.
  4. PM sent.
  5. Are you getting rock from HoT? If so I HIGHLY recommend you do not as you WILL get unwanted pests in your rock. I have had numerous people come over to my house for corals/fish and I always hear the horror stories of mantis shrimp, gorilla crabs, and numerous other predatory hitchikers. I have a friend and fellow WAMAS member on here who has live rock for sale if wanted.
  6. Quantum Reefs is in you local area and typically has the BRS RODI systems in stock. Give them a shout.
  7. I do the same thing as small reef. Float, add 40-50% volume and either net or hand scoop into tank. Dripping is too tedious and I am too lazy to do it properly
  8. Looks good thus far. I personally like corals more and if you stay softies/zoas the tank will be super easy to maintain and put little time into. The only downfall is most soft coral tends to grow really fast and you have a small tank.
  9. I am agree with Brian Ward. I have been running an old RO NWB200 on my 150 and it only cost me 120 bucks. I then ran a newer diablo series RO that seemed to pull out less gunk, but cost 300 more. I will rock my NWB200 until it falls to pieces or I upgrade to a bigger setup.
  10. Looks like they pulled the line from what I can tell. http://www.reefdynamics.com/category-s/234.htm
  11. Algaebarn is definitely one of the better spots to order just copepods.
  12. Typically the Tunze Nano skimmers are really reliable, but I had the same issues with water level. I ended up going with a BM E3 HOB. Obviously not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works like a champ. It can be noisy at times though with a gurgling noise. Maybe try one of the IM Ghost skimmers if they fit.
  13. I have had similar experiences as everyone above. You absolutely need to follow strict QT protocols with anything from them including CUC/inverts.
  14. I have used DE Metal Halides in the past, but switched over to a SE 250W 20k Radium and have been happy since.
  15. 1/2 depends on chiller brand obviously as you probably have read. I personally think 3/4 would be a bit overkill, but it all depends on room temp too. If the tank is in a basement no way would I up to a bigger chiller. JBJ is a great brand too. I went with tradewinds because they are typically more of a commercial product vice consumer. Kinda like buying a commercial mower that is designed to take more of a beating than others. You don't have to use a controller at all if your going to use your apex. I like it as a secondary failsafe personally. It is a Ranco controller for what it is worth.
  16. Sponges (Pineapple probably). No biggie.
  17. You would probably need at a 1/2HP Chiller. I am personally a fan of tradewind chillers. I have been running a 1/4HP one for over 5 years on my last two setups and never had any issues with it. http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/tradewind-1-4-horsepower-inline-chiller
  18. I have run this exact 4 bulb combo for many many years. Only thing I have ever substituted is the ATI Purple+ for a KZ Fiji Purple. I am currently playing with the new Giesemann bulbs and am liking them too.
  19. Not sure if you are into angels at all, but I have always love the actual reef safe ones. I have owned the Swallowtail angels for many years and never had one touch a single coral. Here is part of an article on them: The Genicanthus angelfish are as close to reef-safe as it gets. They are all mid-water planktivores and rarely pick at benthic invertebrates. I've kept G. bellus, G. melanospilos, G. watanabei, and G. semifasciatus. I've had G. bellus for many years and it's my favorite in this genus. Not only has it proven to be completely reef-safe, it is a tough fish that does very well in captivity. Similar to all the Genicanthus angels, it must be fed multiple times per day in order to thrive. In this requirement, they're similar to Anthias.
  20. Just remember when you cut it off, if you leave enough of the stalk it will regrow. I have done that to mine 4 times now.
  21. Depends on the day you order, but typically I got all mine in 2 days. Always had heat packs or cool packs in the box.
  22. Free shipping each time with no losses. Had an empty hermit shell or two, but no biggie.
  23. Yep Sinularia. Looks nice and happy. Nice coral.
  24. I've ordered the package three times. Its pretty good. I wish it was the big turbo snails not the smaller ones, but hey still a great deal.
  25. I came from the VA Beach area to where I am now on the MD/NOVA Border. We have a ton of great vendors here and a fantastic reefing community. I would recommend a personal favorite, but that is impossible as I have gotten too many great deals from each. Welcome!
