Hi all, I added a royal Gramma to my tank a few weeks ago and noticed it's tail was frayed a few days later. I thought at first it was just aggression or dmg from the rockwork but I'm a bit concerned it may be tail rot. How can I identify what's going on and should I move forward proactively with treatment? All other fish appear fine.

I have a magnetic scrubber for the glass, and I've been using a baster to blow off some from the rocks if it gets too much. I do about monthly water changes. I'm just using the default sponge, carbon and biofilter that comes with this aio, but I actually have been looking into an alternative because the flow through the media is pretty lousy and someone with my tank recommended one from intank. I was planning to order a few chemipure blue bags with it for the chemical media. Unless anyone has other recommendations. Yeah I just restocked some snails this week. I haven't tried an urchin yet. I have been thinking about adding a protein skimmer as well cause I've gone without it and I expect it would help quite a bit.

Well I'm coming up on 10 months and have had some highs and lows with the tank. A few losses here and there but the clowns and goby I put in first have made it the whole 9 months and the corals have done great. One thing I'm struggling with is keeping up with the algae growth. Any suggestions for what to try next are appreciated!

Thanks! I'll look into the badge. I am monitoring nitrate so I can see the cycles been successful. Just trying to move pretty slow on adding anything else to avoid a spike.

Hi all, I started my first tank about a week ago and am looking forward to my first experience in the hobby. It's the 32.5 fluval flex with life rock and sand. I did a fast cycle with 2 clowns who both seem to be doing well. I've been testing for the past few days since adding the clowns and all looks good, but the ammonia levels according to the API kit seems to be hovering between 0 and .25, I'm hoping the cycle has been successful and will keep monitoring. I'm leaning towards getting an all-in-one to start, but I know I'll probably want to upgrade later. I just think an all-in-one would be easier for me to get started and comfortable.

I'm located in Ellicott City. I'd like to start with Fish only and then add some corals. I don't want to go too big, but I know bigger is easier. I was thinking somewhere in the 20-50 gallon range to start. Also one other thing-- I noticed there's not really any local shops showing up when I google map search-- can anyone make a recommendation on a local shop I can visit to start getting more ideas?

Hi community! I just signed up today after being referred from a reefers forum since I live in the area. I've always been fascinated by reef tanks but moved around too much in and have always been too busy to really get into this hobby. Lately I've been trying to watch beginners videos, read what I can, and learn, so that soon I can setup my first tank. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed-- there's so much information and I'm not sure where to start. I don't want to rush into this and buy a tank/setup that I'll regret later. I'd like to spend some time learning and understanding what to expect while keeping an eye out for good deals on supplies (I'm on a tight budget). Any advice on where to start? How to get all the knowledge I need to make my first go at this as successful as possible? Additionally, any advice on where to learn about budget builds? I want to make sure that I don't blindly follow someones build without realizing that saving an extra 100$ on something was totally not worth it. I started reading Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies to get my feet wet and hoping to dive in sometime this summer or early fall with my first tank! Thanks for the help!
