It's a used tank, but only a little over 2 years old. It was on sale through FB marketplace down by Richmond. -
What powerheads for 3/4inch glass
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to wildcrazyjoker81's topic in General Discussion
Wow surprised Jebao pumps work for glass this thick. Good to know. I have been looking at the gyres as well. Thanks. Yeah I thought that is what you had, but couldn't remember off the top. Would just hate to have one fall off. Thanks. -
Just picked up a new tank for a future build (220G Peninsula made by Miracles) and it is 3/4 inch glass. What powerheads are you all using with glass this thick? I read many reviews that MP40s tend to fall/slide over time. Currently I have two MP40s (one QWD and one WES with driver upgrade) that I was hoping to use for the new build. I know I need to set the pins for the older model, but still worried that the dry side will fall.

Hello and welcome. Can we get a description of your current nano and possibly your future plans for a larger build. Luckily you have a some really good people in the Frederick area to help you along the way.

I am also a 40B guy. I was lazy and didn't drill and ended up just doing an eshops hob overflow, which has been running flawlessly for 2 years, but wish I would had drilled it off the get go as the box takes up too much space in the corner of my tank. The 40B is a great tank size though for sure. Sounds like you are off to a good start on your supply list. I do think you would be better served with a better controllable DC powerhead style pump like the Jebao/Jecod series, but that is just me. -
FWIW BRS did a study and found out the bulb life of certain T5s like ATI Blue+ is drastically longer than we initially thought in the hobby. So that leads me to believe the actinic blue bulbs will be a much safer bet if you are unsure of the lifespan used already in the bulbs. The pink/purple/white may lead to a nasty algae outbreak if they have shifted color enough to feed algae growth over coral growth. I personally would just run the blues and kind of suck up the color until you can afford new bulbs. Also keep in mind those bulbs lose PAR as they age, so they will not be anywhere as strong as new bulbs when you do the shift to the new fixture. I have no clue what a HD or MOMs is to even have an opinion or guess on it.

No worries. I personally like the pop of the Orphek a bit more as it is just not blue light and has some violet/uv too. Also if you go the Orphek route you can 100% customize your layout and don't have to stick with their stock layouts. That all said Reefbrite is tried and true, just costly for the XHO.
-
I currently run a Reefbrite tech on the backside of my ATI light and an Orphek OR2 Blue Plus on the front. I have had no issues with the Reefbrite and like the pop it provided when I ran it solo before the Orphek. That said it is a tech not an XHO, so less wattage and thus probably a safer option of two problem wise. Now when I added the Orphek my tank really started to pop. The Orphek bar is definitely well made. the power supply does get warm, but is mountable which I like. Many might not like the spectrum it provides since it is not a specific 420-440 range like the Reefbrite, but I personally do like the range the Orphek provides when added to my T5s.

Welcome to WAMAS. Care to elaborate on your setup and intentions? 180G is plenty of room to get creative for sure. Aaron -
Nice. I have been using an older GHL Profilux 3 for about 2 years and haven't really had too many issues that I couldn't figure out by reading the forums on R2R and GHL website. The new app is really easy to use and lets me control my GHL 2.0 dosers as well.

Famous words indeed. IT work never goes that smooth ha ha. Hope it works as intended for us all with no extra headache.

Welcome to the group. Awesome that the plates are reproducing. How old is the tank? -
Sorry to hear it. I too have been dealing with low nutrients for some time now. I can't remember the last time I had my skimmer on with a cup as it was pulling too much out of the water. I don't have many fish in my 40B system so keeping nitrates up is tough for me and I dose it as well. I dose about 2ppm 3 times a week. That said I started using Aquavitro Fuel and that has helped me stay consistent around 10ppm nitrate so I have been dialing back my nitrate dosing to find the happy medium. I am finally at the point where I am seeing some green algae on the glass/rocks again and couldn't be happier to see it haha. Keep pressing forth on your dosing and kick off that skimmer/remove the cup. Hope it all recovers.

Wow this is hard. Could be many higher end montis from the description. JF Beach Bum, Reef Raft Crazy T, or maybe Kung Pao.

Yeah the photo is spot on. The coral is super bright from across the room and very unique.

This piece is so amazing in person. It is on the want list for sure!!

AWI as always came through with great customer service and fast shipping for my replacement filters, media, and new pressure gauge. Also for those wondering the WAMAS discount is still active. Great products at a great price!

Rapid uptick in alkalinity consumption
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to YHSublime's topic in General Discussion
Wow man I have the same battle going on but struggle to get up past 7.5 dkh for more than two days it seems. I would recheck again over the next two days and if it stays in the 7s then up it. I started at 8ml a day and now am up to 14ml and now have to change it yet again. Such a cruel game sometimes when growth really takes off on a smaller tank. -
Copepod & Amphipod Cultivation, Rotifers??
wildcrazyjoker81 replied to realypk's topic in General Discussion
I started doing a tiger pod culture using a pretzel container from the bulk buy stores about 2 weeks ago. I started culturing phyto about 2 months ago with two 1G apple juice containers and needless to say it is starting to be way more than I need and is filling up my fridge. I made a DIY sieve with some 4" PVC and coffee filters and did my first harvest this past weekend and still lots of smaller babies, but can easily tell the culture had more than when I started. I am doing just regular 1.025/1.026 saltwater and some rigid airline with a clip on light on it and all seems to be well. I too am just wanting to get my population going to keep my scooter blenny happy. -
Well I found a heck of a deal for a GHL ProfiluxN EX controller and now the fun begins trying to figure out the GHL Profilux world. Thus far everything works well and getting all the items updated was a breeze via their GHL Control Center Software. The support for these seems to be tough since it is primarily a German Product, but most of it seems pretty straight forward. I still have to get the calibration fluids for the PH, REDOX, and Conductivity to get those up and running. I got the touch pad as well with my purchase and it works fairly well and is easy to navigate. I may at some point get this device online since it has a built in web server, but that would mean I have to run CAT5/6 to my controller since no built in WIFI on the older 3.1 models. Anyone else in the area have a GHL Profilux controller? I know Jerel did, but looks like he hasn't been on the site since early last year. Aaron

Looking for Professional Help for Redesign

Seems like Kessil didn't really give many options for mounting this light other than their proprietary arms. That said I wonder what the screw size is on the A360X because then you could possibly find a toggle bolt/screw that could be used instead.
-
Sounds like you need to buy or borrow a large Brute trashcan for a massive water change. Easy to keep stable water parameters that way. I personally use their 32G size to do my large water changes on my 52 gallon system.

For good measure you could run some cuprisorb to aid in removing some of the metals. From what I remember reading it will help remove the Nickel, but not sure about the Vanadium.
