roni December 28, 2011 Author December 28, 2011 Thanks guys. The problem with the wavebox is finding a place to put it where it's not too noticeable. I'll play around with it this weekend and see what I come up.
zygote2k December 29, 2011 December 29, 2011 very nice. another totm candidate- all you need to do is write it up and take some pics...
roni December 29, 2011 Author December 29, 2011 haha, wish that was my tank. that's one that evan had put to show blue versus black background. my tank is no where near that nice.
roni December 29, 2011 Author December 29, 2011 Thanks guys. Will be ecstatic if things look like that in a year. Regal is behaving so far in the tank. No nipping at soft corals, even the tempting zoos near her cave. We'll see if that continues.
Jon Lazar January 2, 2012 January 2, 2012 We had the opportunity to check in on Roni's reef this weekend, and it's come a long way in just a few short weeks. I snapped a few quick pics and some video too. Enjoy!
roni January 2, 2012 Author January 2, 2012 Jon is a master photographer. Really appreciate you taking the pics and video
roni January 2, 2012 Author January 2, 2012 (edited) Thanks everyone. It's been an eventful weekend. Finally got a chance to reseal the sump and so far so good. Also fixed a little leak in the main tank bulkhead, replumbed the frag tank (though there is a small leak I still need to fix), got the kalk reactor on line and did a small water change. Also, I added a ton of new corals and fish thanks to Darren and Dave. With the new fish additions, short of a filefish, I'm done for a little while. Will add a mandarin down the line assuming the pod population gets going. A couple people have asked about the pipefish. I got it from Atlantis in Richmond and it was eating frozen mysis at the time. It now eats that and cycloeeze. Doesn't care for PE mysis but does eat hikari mysis. Will also eat blackworms (no fish I've got ever refuses live blackworms) and live brine. Pretty outgoing fish and always the star of the tank, though with all the movement, I've noticed that it's not as much. I may end up putting him in the LPS tank down the line. The tank is a flurry of color, though I think I may be at my tang limit at this point Edited January 2, 2012 by roni
roni January 15, 2012 Author January 15, 2012 Spent a little time on the tank the last couple weeks. Got the frag tank hooked up as well as the UV and the wavebox. The wavebox doesn't make a huge wave due to being oriented front to back and also hidden by the rock but it's a nice swelling motion. The fish are doing well, though someone is picking on the black tang. Hopefully it will stop. My clowns are starting to show egg laying behavior and this will be the first clutch for the young couple.

Hopefully we'll get a tank crawl set up for June for fredericksburg/stafford/woodbridge so people can see a few tanks at the same time. By then, this tank will hopefully be good enough to show

roni January 16, 2012 Author January 16, 2012 I hope i can get my 180 to look half as nice as your tank does.....awsome Thanks! That's very kind but there's still a lot of work to do to get this tank looking good. Plus it's a very new tank and things haven't grown in yet. Moved many of the smaller frags out of the tank into the frag tank for some growout, especially for a bunch of the smaller favia and chalices which were occasionally getting buried. Also noticed a fair amount of detritus right over where I typically feed so going to siphon that out tonight and then possibly get some sand sifters. I've used nassarius in the past but I notice that they tend to die after about 4-6 months. Anyone else have anything they really like?
roni January 16, 2012 Author January 16, 2012 Oh yeah, btw, I can attest to the awesomeness that is the bristlenosed filefish. No mojanos that I can see (had about 20 small ones). They are cool fish and so far I haven't noticed any polyp eating (though the tank is big enough that they may be picking and I'm not noticing). Not great swimmers and one got caught on the tunze but extricated him/her self.
