TheyCallMeMr.703 September 8, 2013 September 8, 2013 the both of you (703) could use some skills in the patience department and do some of the research yourselves instead of asking everyone else how to do it. Patience, on this subject??? I let my tank sit for Over a year in the beginning, Just Cycling, after 6 -9 months, Added some MacroAlgea, and Bloomed the whole tank, Till there were Pod's swimming around during the day with the lights on... But other perspectives and things, yes lol
Coral Hind September 8, 2013 September 8, 2013 Isn't their a chemical. Bio magnet or something ? You are asking about Flocculants, which bind small particles together so they can be trapped by the filter or become heavy enough to settle out. There is also a natural product that acts as a "floc" and you can use it to speed things up. See the link below. http://www.drtimsaquatics.com/cloudy-aquarium-water
sachabballi reef September 9, 2013 September 9, 2013 In reading all his posts again, I think we are all misinterpreting his intentions. I don't think he is trying to jump over steps or find quick fixes...rather gathering information for knowledge. I think he is doing what a lot of us had to do unfortunately....back track and restart. He was given horrendous advice by more than one fish store and was over sold and misguided. Even when we research and know in our gut that what the LFS is telling us is wrong, we want to trust them as "experts" and when we do and they have done more damage then good we feel a rash of emotions and one of them shouldn't be embarrassed in this club for taking the advice when they are being so open and asking for assistance to recover. I think we all get a little worked up as we have a huge passion for our hobby, but I think we all (and myself included absolutely) need to remember we were all there once and now that we are flying 30,000 feet above with all the knowledge and experience below us we shouldn't embarrass or berate or be mean because someone is stumbling and trying to regain footing. So I am taking this time to say I am sorry Joshifer for not helping more and making comments I shouldn't have. I hope you are still reading these forums and will come back and let us show you that this club is here to support you.
smallreef September 9, 2013 September 9, 2013 That's very nice Jenn... I'm not trying to jump on is case..I just want him to research and then ask questions...not just ask everything that comes to mind...or maybe keep it all in one thread? Lol it's all about the same tank... He was TOTALLY given bad info from the get go...and that is why I say more than ever have books, read and then ask..because some places just want to sell you stuff and make money...this hobby really takes a lot of reading, asking and finding out for yourself... He's starting off better on this build...just for the fact there's not fish in the tank 2 days after... And I'm all for helping... I hope he knows that..as I'm going to be bringing more water change water next week, lol I just know I really like all of the books I have and the wealth of info inside to always reference back to them... So...hopefully the majanos are gone...and the tank is spiking ammonia and nitrites as we type!

I've been trying to get him to come in for over a week now and finally was able to sit down with him this evening. He is not rushing into anything but merely asking questions. He doesn't understand the hobby, thus asking questions, and when he gets an answer, he poses it as another question. I think the misunderstanding is that through his curiosity to understand better, he is blasting out questions left and right, which makes one think that he is doing those things or that he's going to fast. Starting a question of with "can I" usually indicates you want to or have done so... once I pointed that out, he totally understand where folks may have misinterpreted his intentions. He's a really nice guy trying to learn the hobby and relying on WAMAS to provide that. It's like a kid that is really excited about something and asking a million and one questions. Now that we have a better understanding, he's promised to lay low on the questions a bit and do more research but he is by no means rushing into things. We have made ourselves available to him should he have any further questions so that should take some load off of everyone
NateCamReef September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 good grief Sir...just step away from the tank... I think its time we introduce you to Mr 703...you guys could chat up a storm together YES!

He is a really nice guy just trying to learn....we have all been there.... come on back Joshifer....start a dedicated build thread for your tank in the right area and then ask a gazillion questions if you want all contained in that thread and we can all help and direct and support.... How is that cycle on the 30 going? Take the rock out and get rid of the aptaisia? Stabilize your salinity for the clown? How is he doing...eating well?
Coral Hind September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 Joshifer - You still here? Hopefully you don't give up on the hobby and are able to brush off any negative comments that were made. Stick with Steve's advice, he's very knowledgable and an all around great guy.
YHSublime September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 I hope I didn't come off as negative, I still consider myself a newbie, because I am... And I'm still learning daily. Hope you're still here.
smallreef September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 He's still around, he's doing some readign of the new books he got, reading some of the beginner threads... ,
Joshifer September 10, 2013 Author September 10, 2013 I'm here. Thank you everyone for your concern and nice words. I just haven't been posting because I got out of my comfort zone. I received a few harsh PMs. I'm not mad or bitter. I just became uncomfortable and felt unwelcome. I understand now I asked questions too rapidly and the way I asked and Steve noted my wording came off as "I'm gonna do this or I did it already or I'm gonna do it even if you say no" that isn't the case. Just wanted worst case scenarios. And good sides. To methods.
BowieReefer84 September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 This is a great community and shame on anyone who blasted you in a PM. Welcome to the club! Accept the positive and ignore the negative. I think people typing on keyboards sometimes "say" things they wouldn't do so to someones face. This is a hobby. Everyone has killed a yellow tang at one point or another. You're not the first and certainly won't be the last to make mistakes. WELCOME!
Joshifer September 10, 2013 Author September 10, 2013 For those who are curious. I haven't done anything since filling it. Didn't even scape it. Just leaving it alone. Only thing I have been doing is ghost feeding. Well not really ghost feeding because I found hermits and full size astrina snails. And mushrooms and my grand ma lol.

We all here to learn, and enjoy this hobby...I have had got some unwelcome words when I first joined too. I had no choice but to do stupid thing (but, I rather do stupid thing than risk a divorce!). However, I learned to take thing less "personal" and let it go.... Edited September 10, 2013 by flooddc
Coral Hind September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 That's really sad that you got those harse PM's. I would hope this community is not full of "trolls" like other sites such as Reef Central.
howaboutme September 10, 2013 September 10, 2013 (edited) This is a great community and shame on anyone who blasted you in a PM. +1 That's so sad to hear. Welcome to the club and hope that those few people don't cloud your impressions of WAMAS or this hobby. You are doing the right now. Read up on the tons of information out there. Absorb it, analyze it and see if the information applies to you. There are many ways in this hobby but really only a handful or so of true "no no's" so take any advice you get w/ a grain of salt and always do your own due diligence. Then, if you have questions related to what you've researched or more specifically about your setup, ask away. This way, the answers can be catered to you and not just generalities in this hobby. Good on smallreef and QR for stepping up! Edited September 10, 2013 by howaboutme

That's kinda the vibe I got honestly. I'm like ok their more concerned with trolling and scolding and making remarks about my personal life then actually helping or giving answers. I must admit tho. Alot of the members really reached out to me and was more concerned about my well being then anything else. And I appreciate it and look forward to being good friends

Insert sound track here...."slow ride...dun dun dun...take it easy...dun dun dun..." :-) kick back, relax, read up, and pop a yummy beverage of your choice while you go spot-lighting pods. This was the stage where I really went crazy reading about different fish and coral that I liked as well as new ones I came across in that process. I love the research and planning component as much as watching the tank...not that my internet fiddling substitutes for the years (maybe decades) of experience others in WAMAS have acquired.
Joshifer September 10, 2013 Author September 10, 2013 I tried to scape a little. I kicked up a sand storm and stopped.
Origami September 11, 2013 September 11, 2013 Joshifer, you're going to run out of attachment space soon as you're attaching photos to your post. I don't recall how much attachment space users get off hand, but it goes quickly. The best option is to post your pictures to a service like photobucket and to embed the image link in your post. Another option is to start a WAMAS gallery and upload to it, and to post the image link from there in your posts. To check on your remaining attachment space, click on the downward pointing triangle next to your screen name at the top right of the page and select "My Settings." Then, from the left side of the next screen, select "Manage Attachments." I think that'll take you to the page that shows what attachments you've made to your posts and how much space you have remaining.

Oooo ok I'll delete pics from older threads thanks maybe if you can delete the post about me needing am id I pretty much got what I needed from that one
Origami September 11, 2013 September 11, 2013 I'll cut back on some of those pictures in that thread. Photobucket's easy to use. Do you have a photobucket account or can you set one up?
lnevo September 11, 2013 September 11, 2013 Yeah do the photobucket is best bet...we're gonna need a lot of pictures!! Tank looks like its off to a great start... Love that new tank look
