I think you have to use a ton of the algae to see a noticeable drop in nitrates. But every bit counts which is why we do multiple different things to help drop them

What is all the hype over the purple tang? I know they are pretty but expensive. I have not owned one and am curious why people like them so much. Is their behavior similar to yellow tang?

yup thats nature. When I change out my GFO and less algae is available, sometimes I will find a dead snail.

looks like a bristleworm. They are great addition to the cleanup crew. They clean up and eat things the fish dont eat.

I have no idea. With me it was just trial an error. My palys toward the bottom were losing color. I added a second light fixture and they colored up. Make sure the light intensity looks about the same thoughout the tank. I could be wrong but it seems that adding more LEDs never hurts since the strongest i have seen is 3watts per bulb.

Good news! My refugium overflows to the pumps. I have seen the pods get sucked down the overflow to the pumps i bet it happens more often than we think.

I was curious about this so I ran an experiment since I get really bored sometimes. I dumped live brine shrimp in over the pumps to see what they look like when they come out. Most were fatally injured a lot were destroyed with injuries incompatible with life. About 5-10% look like they would live. Every one was gobbled up quickly though. Oh well at least the fish are fed when the pods pass though the pump! Here is a video of the experiment if anyone cares. VIdeo quality is bad sorry :(

they say starfish have amazing rejuvination powers like if you cut it in half etc. Maybe it can pull though.

I want to put together a simple list of reasons for tank crash. In my tiny bit of experience on wamas I have seen so far.... Salinity problems from swing arm/human error. Cat peeing in sump Deep sand bed stir up toxins Old bulbs/lighting fixtures Malfunction of heating/ cooling equip. Including electric outages Nutrient adding/export problems including skimmer failure and over feeding/stocking Toxic metals entering system steel is ok Small leak causing freshwater ATO to throw off salinity Laziness with water change or maintenace Please add more we all want to prevent with knowledge!

LMBO! most of mine hang out on the glass eating algae, partying and spawning. There are a lot in the hive though. I just changed out my GFO and a lot of the algae went away. Hope they dont starve. Population booming. If anyone low on pods needs a temporary home for a mandy let me know.

Ill be there! Mr coral used to have a store here. Not sure what happened they sell on EBAY now under a different name. I do see some overpriced corals sit a while at my LFS and I do have a lot harder time selling corals on here than you do lol Has to be the hand picked corals and reputation

Yea sounds neat and different. I'm not artistic enough to pull it off it would end up looking like a hurricane came through. You can have the last bit of my GHA free of charge because I'm just that nice.
