  1. I ended up getting one even though people said they will do little to nothing for nitrates (unless you buy hundreds) And they said most are cold water clams and won't live long. I got A Florida cleaner clams just for fun, still alive and healthy. Just one more cool organism for the tank and even if it is just a little filtration, I'll take it !
  2. Ill keep watch. Especially when I go home to ohio next week.
  3. Lol you lil stinker turkey!

  6. If your big screen has Internet and YouTube it looks great on there also
  7. Here was a cool reef video I found on YouTube. Hope y'all enjoy. Red Sea reef. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bNucJgetMjE
  8. at this point I don't think you will have much calcium and magnesium demand since your corals are probably small and have little demand just like my tank. Plus there are water changes to help keep it in check. It's nice to keep an eye on the levels though . I bust out beer, music and my test kits twice a month. Alkalinity will be the main one to watch in our new sps tanks that should be done more often than twice a month.
  9. Mine do it all the time. The fish demolish the babies pretty quick. They do kinda look like brine
  10. Clownfish love to play in them lol wow livin life dangerous

  12. The scary thing is that it only takes one lil swimmer to mess up your world. This is serious business can't believe I wasn't dippin. I dipped today and couldn't believe the critters that fell off. Probably just pods but still!
  13. Thanks guys! The crying doesn't seem to start until you want to go to bed
  14. It's a boy! My child's first time looking at the tank today. Born 10/18 8.5lb 20.5in had to crop the daylights out of the photo to get it to download on here.
  15. I'm suprised we don't have more outbreaks of coral eating flatworms with the amount of sharing we do. Or maybe members think its about as embarrassing as publicly stating that you have an STD. I'm going to call this a TSD tank shared disease. Thanks so much for the post I'm going to start dippin. What is the best way to dip?
  16. Sell it to allanm he wants to conduct an experiment with them not eating tiny snails
  17. Looks like a non coral eating flatworm to me but I can't really see what I'm looking at.
  18. So glad you are ok. Dangerous hobby. Any of the fish get zapped or show signs of stress?
  19. QT tanks are extremely prone to ammonia spikes. I don't know if copper does but a lot of meds kill the bacteria that eat the nasties. Also sick and stressed fish don't eat all the food causing rapid ammonia accumulation. I worked a 48 hour shift and came home to a couple of dead fish.I Pre measured food for wife to feed them. 0 ammonia before I left. Came back to it reading 3. If you see any ammonia (I would check twice daily) do aggressive water change.
  20. My PPM lasts longer than what your chart says so I flush about 4-5 min to make DI resin last longer. Must be them high quality buckeye field supply RO filters.
  21. Ok I think mine does better than 10% also then. I did a quick google search to figure out where I read the smoking thing. It was from my old skimmer directions. I'm hoping it only effects the aqua-c spray injection skimmers. I'm also thinking it was only cigarette smoke which is nice. ". Cigarette smoke will prevent the skimmer from working! Smoke gets sucked into the skimmer and hurts the foaming process."
  22. Does wet skimming pull more junk from water than dry skimming? I like wet skimming because the skimmer stays cleaner longer and poop doesn't cake as much. Does smoking or a wood stove decrease efficiency? I heat with a wood stove starting December and think I read somewhere that it does decrease performance. I'm wondering if it's a noticeable difference. I'm also curious what percent of poop logs a skimmer can remove. Is it disappointingly low like only 10% of nasties are removed through skimming?
  23. I couldn't believe how much mine lowered with 30 gallon refugium. Not only is there dilution with more water but I added larger than football size chaeto, extra live rock and deep sand bed. All proven to lower nitrates. If that's not an option or sump is not an option bump up skimming. Take fish out and sell them. Feed less. Let tank age more.
  24. All my corals from him were very fairly priced and are flourishing. The Duncan just sprouted 4 new heads already. Check em out online.
  25. Yes at night is best to help avoid PH swing but I don't do that because my pods and other refugium critters don't get a break from lighting. I'm not sure how much my ph swings anyhow doesn't seem to be a problem in my tank .
