  1. lol mines all full of %$#* and vinegar too. If I move corals in or near her territory she bites them and dumps them as hard as she can on the bottom. The good thing is that its rare when she will pick on another tank mate.
  2. I had xenia shrink on me. Did a water change and changed out my GFO material since it was getting old. bounced back.
  3. I cant tell what they are from the picture. I dont know much about ick because my fish have never had it. ick does go through different life cycles (attached to fish then free swimming etc) there is a thread pinned on the wamas main page that is very very informative. here is video of my pods that live in my refugium. In my Display Tank they hide. Hope they look similar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuv9tEU8jAE
  4. Monkey see monkey do.
  5. Blue tangs swim for miles in a day looking for food. Mine swims 6 feet. I don't think I'll buy any more tangs.
  6. Yea ill take two. If you get them to reproduce their fry would be better than a pot o gold.
  7. Oh gosh this is going to turn into fish tank hunger games.
  8. Alkalinity helps avoid ph fluctuating (lowering) by buffering. In short, total alkalinity is a measure of how much acid it takes to lower the pH. To dumb it down even more.... if your pH keeps dropping to a low level, do a water change then invest in a alkalinity test kit and raise alkalinity to keep the pH from lowering too low all the time. I dont have alkalinity problems now that I dose kalkwasser for calcium and alkalinity for the corals. The fish tolerate the lower pH and alkalinity better than the corals.
  9. Yup! thats what I used to get started (and still use) I think the fish need alk, mag, calcium in the water but dont consume it. But most salts come with that pre mixed at the right proportion. . If you have little or no consumption from a few tiny corals or no corals at all then I dont see a need to test it because levels will remain the same
  10. pH, nitrate, ammonia is enough to get by for a brand new tank with no sps corals. If you want to work proactively to prevent algae check Phoshate if you aren't worried about algae then don't worry about it. If you get into SPS or LPS corals then you need to start buying the calcium, Alk and mag. Someone please correct me I'm always wrong on here. All I know is that before starting crazy cool corals the pH ammonia and nitrate was enough for me to get by. Ammonia is #1 killer of fish in new tanks so I think that's important.
  11. If you use A/C in the summer you should be fine. In the winter when my house air dries out, the tank acts as natural humidifier. I keep and have always kept a dehumidifier in my basement. tank is on first floor. With The new dehumidifiers you can set to desired humidity level.
  12. Ill tell you what if I find one ill give it to you FREE for science and entertainment purposes.
  13. Lol wow I would be concerned too of my fish pooped out a marshmallow. I have no idea let us know if you figure it out.
  14. Yay! flatworms have feelings too.
  15. Wish I had that much frag room! How did you hear about us?
  16. I'm shocked that they don't spawn in private with only one mate. That group spawning would be a sight to see !! My six line is a tad aggressive it chases my damsel around every now and then. Doesn't bother the rest of my big fish. So if you want to control with that route I wouldn't recommend if you have any smaller fish. If bristleworm ever gets big just carefully put it in the sump I heard they sting when large.
  17. Yea if you got inverts run it at 1.25-26. Swing arms can be inaccurate and refractometer can be Mia calibrated so be careful check And double check.
  18. I changed my power company and anyone else considering solar power? Looks attractive
  19. You would see a beached whale if I were visiting the beach. Love San Juan! 69?! You could hang meat in there. Turn your fridges off!
  20. You going to run GFO? It really helps prevent. I quit in my tank as an experiment. What little GHA I had started to come back right away. Ill never do that again.
  21. Glad you are back! Good to see a moco reefer! I'm sure you will find less issues with bio load & algae in the larger tank. Just under stock it with fish and over stock skimmer. Its a lot easier to prevent the algae than get rid of. That tank is amazing I'm jealous!
  22. My tank uses roughly 700 watts. Calculated to about 35$ a month in electric charges give or take a few.I have a digital electricity usage monitor. Reads out watts. My reef octopus nwb250 was the biggest hog at 200 watts and both my pumps (mag9.5) rang In at around 150 each. I have a 125 gallon system. Just food for thought. The money this thing costs me is a lot. But I have the extra money and its worth every penny. Just food for thought and thought it was interesting.......
  23. How old Are most of them sps?
  24. Wow tough call! I would try to dremmel it out then chip the rock when dremel cant go farther. Let us know how it goes.
  25. I have a feeling I would get an empty bottle and an intoxicated moderator to deal with. Oh well payback is a stinker. What fire dept you work for? I'm paid in Montgomery county.
