Sounding like 1-2hours of good ol fashion natural sunlight would be a great treat for the corals and fish but anything more could cause algae and heat issues. How would sunlight cause algae growth? too much light? different spectrum? I bet neighbors would love the tank in the window I can see mine peaking in as they walk by
I'm thinking flow will be a little too fast for pods or anything good? I know the pump on mine would blow em away lol. Cool idea! More flow for the tank also
Does anyone keep their tank in front of a window and get direct sunlight? Would this cause any problems? The sunlight reflects off my floor and my corals seem to love it.
There are 2 problems with my swing arms that Im sure you know about. I love them, quick and easy. problem 1) micro bubbles attach to the swing arm floating it off where it should be. These bubbles are hard to see even with my eagle eyes. I flick the thing as hard as I can and sometimes its still hard to get them to come off the arm. 2) You must rinse after use very well every time or the salt will dry on the arm throwing off the weight balance or will dissolve and throw off salt concentration.
Im in frederick if you want to use mine. My tank is at 1.026. Ill have to look at what my calibration fluid is at. I bought some bird nests off you a couple months ago. They are doing great.
I do have a super shy goby also. He hides all day every day. Occasionally I see him during feeding frozen brine and mysis shrimp. My power head sucks the shrimp down and the tank looks like the money machine with the shrimp blowing everywhere. Fish can live a week without food. Don't be too afraid of he skips a couple meals. If he skips more than a couple come up here and buy a portion of live brine on Wednesday or Thursday befor they run out. It 1.50 a portion it's a few meals worth.
Yes I have a 55gallon quarantine tank. Another reason why I dont want to do a little at a time is because I dont want to hurt my pets Everything is coming out. Plus I want to move the tank a couple feet. Im sure my fish will have more swim room after the rocks are stacked high with caves. Wow! Thats one pesky damsel!
The tank has been set up for a long time. I bought it used and moved everything in one day in june. Its bare bottom. The nitrates were 80ppm after moving. I wasnt sure if it was because of neglect (most used tanks have been neglected) or leaching from the established rockwork being banged around in my truck in bins full of sloshing water. The nitrates are finally 0 so I think its time. One of my concerns is rock that had full sun (LED light) will now be on bottom. Can the die off of algea etc cause problems? Ill just keep a close eye on everything.
I bought my 125g tank used. I dumped in all my rock work after the move. I am getting prepared to finally aquascape and re arrange the rock. I finally got my nitrates to 0 so i figure its time. I was pumped and celebrated with a beer but thAts another story. So my plan is to drain and remove all rockwork and water in tubs the way i moved everything into my house. That way If I need a big or small piece it will be easier to grab. Should i be concerned about stirring up nasties? How big of water change should I do after completion? Any other concerns or suggestions?
+ 12 yea I joined before them also. Got to catch up! I went through 12 bags of popcorn while watching my fish and the drama unfold. Glad you changed your mug shot joshifer you dont look like a fish killer anymore.
Do some corals carry several names that different people have made up? Since Im new it almost seems to me like a contest of what LFS can come up with the craziest attractive name. I would have named them orange zoas.
Bad aggressive fish travel in schools. Im sure those individuals are being quarantined. They schooled up and singled you out of your school probably because of too many posts. And now you want to jump out the tank. i would just lay low and only post when your fish really need you to for the time being. Like you said hide under a piece of live rock. It works for less aggressive fish in tanks and will work for you here. Only come out for food or they will pick on ya bub
Im sure I'm wrong because I don't have a 600 gallon tank but that seems like a lot of bio load lol. I wonder if he has a huge sump to help out or how he's doing it. The eel alone would poo some serious logs.
