  1. Who is this John Rhodes fellow? LOL
  2. Could not have put this better. I had the same problem with my former 90g. Sump only went in if it was on its edge standing up...
  3. Very glad you bumped this up. I have my original WP-40 still going strong, but within the last two months I had two fail with the same issues you describe. The first had been running for 6-7 months, and the second only gave me a month or so of service before it stopped. But, like I said, the original one I purchased and reviewed here is still working (as of yesterday afternoon anyway).
  4. I think he would need a semi colon in there to get that across: "collecting man; eating amphipods." That would be a really interesting video... Paul out in the ocean netting divers and popping amphipods into his mouth!
  5. I really wish we had a like button. +1 to this.
  6. I agree with Kim, your chomis probably killed each other off. They are also very good at disposing of the bodies! Have you witnessed the clown showing aggression to the fish/shrimp you lost? It may not be the clown at all, but water quality, or age/bad luck. I have found my yellow tailed damsels to be very aggressive to any newcomer in my tank. The only way I can reliably introduce new fish with them is if I have multiple fish to put in at a time (spreads the aggression out). If you get yellow tails try to add them last to reduce their audacity.
  7. I would be happy to take a look. Your layout sounds a lot like mine, I have my rock in the middle (one section actually hits the back glass, but there is a "tunnel" that the flow can go through) as well. WIth that layout, we should be able to get your water moving in no time!
  8. This is a neat piece of gear. However, the same effect can be produced with two cheap power heads. I prefer a gyre in my tank, and have always ran them this way. Would be nice to see if I can replace two units with this one though. I wonder how it will function when you throw rock work into the mix?
  9. LMAO! But I agree with Bowie, why dose at all? Use herbivores to manage the algae that comes up. Natural solution FTW!
  10. Mattie, those pics are awesome!
  11. I have actually had two of the WP 40's die on me in the last 3 months. The first lasted probably 6 months, and the second was only working for 2 months (maybe a bit less). I do have one that has been going strong for a year, and I will buy them again. I only post this to give you one experience where the longevity of the pump was, perhaps, not as good as a more expensive item.
  12. My favorite part!
  13. I have an extra that came with a WP-40. I am not sure off hand if they are the same, but if so you are welcome to it.
  14. Has anyone else noticed that when you cut and mount a frag of acropora it grows all around the original cutting? I am not talking about it encrusting. It seems to me that the severed branch perpetually stays the same size while new growth gets larger all around it. Am I off my rocker? Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a reason for it? Discuss
  15. Wow, glad to see the progress on this one! Also, thanks to everyone who is contributing; I have learned a great deal.
  16. Did you test today? What are you testing with the API kit? That brittle star looks pretty bad.
  17. That is great news! I am glad it was something simple, and not an attack of the killer starfish
  18. With the lights on, and viewed from the front, you really don't see though it. When the lights are off you can make out the outline of things behind the glass. BUT, a big plus to tint is that if you ever drop something behind your rock work, you are better able to find it because your back glass isn't totally opaque (you can see through the rear pane and guide your hand to the frag, or whatever you dropped).
  19. LOL! That is a healthy bite!
  20. As Mr. Sublime noted, I went the tint route and love it. Be sure to take you time and squeegee out any bubbles. Mine has been on for about 2 years now, and has survived two moves. It looks as good as day 1. People recommend 2% or 5% black tint. You can get a roll at Advanced Autoparts for something like $5.
  21. It all depends on your flow rate. I did 4 1" returns, but two would be ok for my return rate. I run my DC6000 on a setting of "4" at about 2ft total head pressure. Not sure what that equates to in GPH, but it is adequate for my fuge and sump. You really dont need a massive return rate. In my opinion, flow within the tank is better achieved with powerheads. 22. I used to, but not anymore. Took too long to get them on/off.
  23. Wow, 4.5" from tip to tip. That thing is eating good
  24. They were just trying to help you make room for more corals How big is that carapace? Without a ruler there for scale it looks like it is 6 inches wide!
