  1. Direct drip to the sump. Sicce Syncra as a feed pump. I love it. Alk gets checked weekly now, and the ease of use is great! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I was hesitant for several years, but with the tank crash back in May, the tank was really just getting a foothold again when I made the switch. I figured if i waited any longer, I wouldn't do it. Once I made the switch, it was a smooth transition. Daily alk/Ca checks for the first week and a half or so, then I gained a comfort level with it. Since then, i've played with the pH a bit here and there to fine tune it, but no negative reactions. I say go for it. I will be switching my frag tank over soon I think.
  3. Thank you sir! The bigger pieces in there were the survivors, say they get the blue ribbon for durability. Hah. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. It's been awhile since I have updated this thread, so here it goes. This tank suffered a crash back in May of '16, and all but 17 acros were lost, and I am still unsure of the reason, however I am located in an area of farmland and there were days when the smell of insecticide was in the air. This year, the A/C will be going on sooner and there is a carbon filter on the skimmer for extra measure. The rebuilding process began last August after letting the tank settle back in and figure itself out for about 3 months. Luckily, we have a pretty good group of reefers up here in Hagerstown, so finding replacements of lost pieces wasn't too difficult. Anyway, on to some pics. The tank has really started to fill in, and a Ca Reactor replaced my old method of dosing 3-part back in September. So far, I'm loving the Ca Reactor and the growth has been pretty crazy since adding it!
  5. There are several zoa, acro, and monti pieces that are prevalent in the Pa area which make them a bit more cost effective. The same can be said for the D.C. Area having several other zoa, acro, and monti pieces that are more prevalent. Living in between the two areas, I get to see the differences and it's pretty cool. Just gotta keep your eyes peeled. 6. I will echo Hopeitlives' words and say thank you to WAMAS for allowing us to share today with you guys! I know I spoke with a bunch of WAMAS and MDRC folks and there seemed to be a feeling of surprise at the different variety of corals that are considered "common" by each individual club. The cross pollination conversations were pretty cool to stop by and listen to, and there were tons of trades that occurred as a result--myself included in this! Thanks so much guys, and hopefully we will do this again next year if you guys are willing to have us by again! Chris Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. So basically, all the trading that happens is setup prior to the event, either through Fragswapper, Reef Trader, or through Facebook and forums like this one. The term Frag Swap has evolved over the years and has morphed into a traditional "Swap Meet" which are held for other hobbies. Swap Meets are generally a place to go and purchase Coral/fish from vendors and hobbyists alike. So, in regards to whether there will be a specific area for trades to take place, there will not, as the arrangements have already been made ahead of time. As far as kids getting into the swap, children 13 and under will be free. [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Folks will be bringing equipment to sell, whether Radions or Hydras will be there, I can't say. [emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. You would be correct. :D Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. That was my experience. White starting at the tips and slowly works its way down until it's gone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. As Tom said above, it will be $5 for WAMAS members. You will need your membership card though, as we are unable to have the membership roster for WAMAS there. Pretty much all of us over the MDRC are card carrying members of WAMAS too, so you will be in good company. As far as a schedule, setup will begin at 8am, with the doors opening at 11am. The current plan is for John to speak between 1-130pm with the raffle winding things down at around 3-330p. We are planning to have some frag packs from the vendors and hobbyists up for grabs in the raffle, as well as some other very cool equipment. This should be a pretty good show! We have large number of vendors coming out from as far away as Va Beach and New York City, not to mention Jason Fox having a tank as well. On top of the vendors, there a bunch of hobbyists who will also have tanks setup to sell off all those frags they've accidentally made with their algae cleaner. :p. All kidding aside, this is really where the cross pollination is most exciting like Graham had mentioned. Being a member of WAMAS and attending frag swaps throughout Pennsylvania, it's amazing the difference in selection you see. One last attendee we are always excited to have at our swaps, and he has yet to miss one, is Larry with the Williamsport High School in Pennsylvania. This is the high school that has been featured in various publications, that has a real focus on Marine Science. On top of that, Larry also runs the Tanks in Schools program, as well as the Reef Conservation Society, which is another sister club up in northern Pa (formerly NCPARS). I hope to see a bunch of you at the swap, and if anyone is interested in setting up a tank, feel free to reach out to me via PM. Thanks again for the hospitality here at WAMAS!!! 13. Did this to kill off the last little bit of resilient bryopsis I had in my tank about a month ago. Worked like a charm.
