  1. But how low is it? From seeing your tank, I doubt you are below 7, or are you?
  2. I agree, that frag is not likely to make it. You can try to frag off well above the demarcation line, but I have never seen long-term success with this. I am 95% sure that the coral is suffering due to the change in Alk between the two tanks.
  3. I use API kits and have for years. I have not seen them to be unreliable indicators of consumption. With that said, I try to stay in a "moderate" range for my CA and DKH. I like 380 CA, and 8-9 DKH. Maybe this is why I have not had any corals melt due to using API test kits. I agree with other posters here, use some baking soda and gradually increase your Alk. Once it is established where you/your corals like it, you can determine your rate of consumption and lock in your dosing schedule. Kalkwasser is an easy first step in supplementing CA and Alk. I would look at that with a drip doser. Shouldn't cost much, and you wont be able to do too much harm... well you can, but things have to go pretty wrong.
  4. Flat black Krylon outdoor spray paint will do just fine in your tank. Let it cure for a week to be on the safe side.
  5. This looks great. Thanks for sharing!
  6. If that is all the deeper your sand bed is, then what you are seeing is likely algae growing against the glass due to the refracted light.
  7. Yeah, I think it went to the right tank! Looking forward to seeing it get even bigger
  8. Not sure about the structural stuff, but I am in the process of moving to a place in Lake Ridge, and will have to have you over sometime! I am on Foothill St. (off Mohican, near Lake Ridge Middle School).
  9. That looks really neat! I may have just been inspired to create something similar
  10. In my experience cyno is cyclical and will eventually burn through whatever is fueling it. Provided you do what you are proposing above ^, I think you will be red-slime-less in a few months maximum.
  11. Your picture taking is amazing man! Great stuff!!!
  12. I will throw in on this... I like the D120s and think they are great fixtures, but if you want something particular then I would DIY. You can do this very cost effectively and get a great setup. I spent right around $380 on my LEDs and that is with Meanwell drivers, heatsink, optics, 120 LEDs, and the wood to build the enclosure. This setup covers a 60" tank with no shadow (except where my bracing goes across the top, and that is very slight). http://www.aquastyleonline.com/products/120--LEDs--DIY-Dimmable-Kit.html These kits are time consuming, but really easy to build.
  13. ok so I am guessing that this: 1) Controller Only (Not include Power Supply) NO Warraty if you operation a orginial Power supply! It's will BURN!!!!. means I need to buy some other power supply than the ones included with my original WP-40, right? I don't want it to "BURN!!!!"
  14. +1 for Teflon tape, I have yet to have it leak.
  15. I always do 1", because that is what I can find on the cheap. Wish I had a drill bit for ya bro. Best I can do is point you to eBay or amazon.
  16. Nothing else is directly in shadow. I do have some mushrooms in the shade, but they grew there of their own accord, and others are growing in the light.
  17. My orange pavona sits under an overhead rock in constant shade. These corals do not like bright light. I would put it in the shadow and watch it grow.
  18. If you really want to experiment with photo period for increased growth, look into decreasing the the time the lights are on, but increasing the frequency (e.g. 4 hours on 4 hours off). I think there are studies on growth rates when manipulating photo period online. But, I am too lazy to look right now.
  19. haha, that should be a setting on instagram... my wife would go nuts using it to doctor pics
  20. Looking very good! How long have those SPS been growing up your back wall?
  21. Very nice video Paul. Did you build them that burrow, or did they dig that one themselves?
  22. I dont know what the iwaki puts out, but my DC pump is by far quieter than any AC pump I have ever had. Would one of the Jebaos work for you?
  23. I have yet to see extension like that with my orange pavona. Cool vid, I am going to keep a closer eye on mine now.
  24. It could be the salt mix you are using. They usually say "no phosphates" or something similar, but if you are seeing a problem I would try changing that out as well. Trust, but verify.
  25. Sorry to hijack a bit, but you should check out the reef farm if you ever drive near Raleigh. They are a coral farming outfit that does some onsite sales. Welcome to the forum GOSKIN5, are you a member of carolina fish talk? If not, you should join there too.
