  1. Nice clam and awesome picture!
  2. I started to fear the worst but that turned out to be a nice happy ending. Congrats!
  3. That's a really nice system. You're going to have to sell a good many corals to pay that off. I would pick corals that are faster growers and not what you have on your list. You will spend a lot of time and energy on Acans and Favias, may not be worth it. That is a good bit of surface area with that many tanks. What are your plans for humidity control?
  4. That sounds like it. They were probably in the rock and are now coming out of it.
  5. I would say it is a gamble to try to mix them in a small tank. The lawnmower can be aggressive to other fish of the same body type. Heck, my 3" lawnmower blenny bites my 12" tang and chases him away from the rocks all the time. Also, asking to buy livestock is not allowed in this section so I'm going to remove that part of your post. Please post something in the member's only for sale and WTB area.
  6. Hard to tell but it looks like some kind of larvae, like from a fly. I've had "drain fly" larvae in my RO storage container which then ended up in my tank during water changes.
  7. I've seen them bubble up when getting to much light or when eggs are about to pop out.
  8. Welcome back to the hobby! You should take pictures of the LED build and post them up in the DIY section.
  9. The lionfish looks whole, unopened. I really doubt that large tang would be able to fit past the esophagus without being crushed up some. The tang looks too perfect for that. Where was the picture taken at? The tangs look like Pacific tangs.
  10. Sweet looking tank! I wonder who the local person is that gave him all that great advice, sounds like a knowledgeable individual. He used to buy stuff from me, a great person to deal with. I don't know all the details of why he left but that is the same story he told me. I agree with gmerek2, it would be nice to have him back as part of the community.
  11. Dominion's Outage Map says it should be back on between 2-4pm. I think you'll be fine as far as livestock goes.
  12. It depends on tank size, corals, and fish load. I've had tanks go for 12 hours with no issues.
  13. Cool videos.
  14. Do you have questions about installing the outlets as a DIY or do you want someone to install them for you?
  15. Welcome to the club. What LFS do you normally visit?
  16. Was the rock shipped in water?
  17. Have you tried the Plusrite brand of bulbs? I used them for several years and liked them. Only $15 a bulb. http://www.1000bulbs.com/search/?filter%5Bcategory%5D=2103&filter%5Battribute_brand%5D=Plusrite#?filter%5Bcategory%5D=2103&filter%5Battribute_brand%5D=Plusrite&filter%5Battribute_color_temperature%5D=10000..0&sort=relevance&page=1&_suid=139928976205909879158313094367 Old threads about the Plusrite: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/35542-400w-se-mh-bulbs/?p=305716 http://wamas.org/forums/topic/35276-plusrite-metal-halide-bulbs/?do=findComment&comment=303570
  18. I have some narrow tongs made for aqua-gardening that work well for grabbing things like dead fish. See the link below of what I have. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3728+12755&pcatid=12755
  19. What type of tank and overflow do you? What type and size fish? Need more info or pics to help you out.
  20. Are you thinking corner overflows or a coast to coast overflow along the back? Do you already have the tank?
  21. No LPS flatworms? Any color change lately? I would skip the small water changes and do a large one, about 50% to make sure everything is balanced out propoerly.
  22. I've used it for red slime but never targeted just for zoas. I wonder if it would work on external fish infections.
  23. Nice line up of equipment! Congrats on getting a new tank.
  24. My experience is that angels seem to be a little more sensitive to higher Nitrates than other fish that people keep in a FOWLR. I have not run any GFO since the FOWLR was set up. I do use RO but no longer do DI resin. Lately I have been doing 200g every three month for water changes. Some months if I'm running the 75g QT I will do more smaller water changes and use the old display water on the QT system. I would just watch the Nitrates and let that decide when you change water.
  25. I do run carbon for about three days a month or when the water starts to get a color/smell to it. Lighting is on the low side compared to reef tanks. I am currently only running 114w of LED over an 8' tank. The maintenance time spent of a FOWLR is much less than a reef tank. I spend more time on my 16g Nuvo then I do on my 600 FOWLR. Nitrates and SG are the only things I test for.
