  1. Hi all, I'll be moving across the country soon, and the movers will be here on Tuesday and Wed to pack all my stuff. I've decided to take my tank with me, so, I'll be taking my live rock with me. The thing is, the live rock will be stored for about a month before I can get it back into any sort of tank. So, what do I do with it? How do I store it. I want to keep it, as it is some darn nice rock.. but, I am afraid of ruining it. Need help quick, breaking down tank today B
  2. Tom, as usual, you are great for advice.. Thanks for your valuable input. I guess this is the route I will go, although I do love my fishes.
  3. Hi Gang, Finally I am back from my overseas deployment, and here in the good Ol USA. the tank has had a rough 6 months. All of my corals are gone (I only had three small ones anyway) My Nems are gone, a star is gone (Surprised it lasted as long as it did) and one Pajama Cardinal is gone. However, lots of stuff still alive and doing well Flame angel, Yellow Devil Fish, Ocilaris Clown, 2 Ice something or another Clowns, 2 Pajama Cardinals, Yellow Corialis Wrasse, (Pale) raspberry dottiback, Yellow Tail Damsel, they all made it So, the dilemma. In 2 weeks I begin the process of moving across country from DC to Yosemite Natl Park (I will be living in the park) I have a 90 Gal bow front tank, 36 Gal Sump, Apex, RODI, etc.. I love my tank, but, am not so sure how to move the fish.. If I decide not to sell the tank, the movers would move the tank, etc, but, not the fish. Also, I am not so sure of the space (floor load capacity) or my new place in Yosemite, and the floors have carpets. I'm not particularly interested in the messes that come with the tank over time, particularly on carpet on top of hardwood floors. So, would you sell the system, or keep it and try to put it up there. If you would keep it, how would you keep the fish and transport them? Also, what about the live rock. Everything gets shipped 24-25 March, and I don't arrive on the ground in Yosemite until 20 June.. almost a month later. Any ideas would be great. to include "put it in the for sale section" Or, "I'll buy the whole system for X Dollars" Blake
  4. HI GANG! SO, Origami has come to the rescue! he contacted me first, and here we are... 3 hours later, and he is finalizing everything. FORTUNATELY, it was not a real huge issue. Seems as if though my return hose had sat on the bottom of my filter sock, and slowed the flow from the overflow to the sump.. thusly the return pump overflowed the main tank some (not too much really... fortunately) I realized this might be the case when I was first notified via email about the overflow... so, I turned off everything that added water to the tank (ATO, Return pump, etc) as I was not 100% sure where the water was coming from. So.. fast forward to Tom coming to the house, and we are checking everything (I am in the middle east and online, and via Apex Fusion and Magic Jack phone) and as soon as I turn on the Return pump, the controller for the return pump became fried!!! The outlet for the Apex was fine, but now we had to come up with something to get the system circulating again! So, Tom snooped around in my "Junk drawer" and found a Cobalt Maxi Pump, some spare tubing, and put the maxi pump in the sump and ran the tubing to the display tank. Plugged the Maxi Pump into the outlet where the Waveline Return pump was, and wala! We had a working return system again!!! Although, not at the flow I once had, but, the MP-40 and MP-10 I have in the tank will still keep the flow going ok. Tom then checked my salinity, and found it low, as we suspect the ATO kicked on to resupply the water in the tank during the overflow, and the ATO Tank was low too. Tom then took all the other necessary steps to mix a new tank of salt water, add some salt to the sump as appropriate, and fill up the ATO tank. we checked some other systems as well.. and well, everything is a go! I cannot thank Tom enough for coming to the rescue here and saving my system... THANK YOU SO MUCH! And to the rest of the members who responded, I cannot thank you enough as well for your concern and consideration, I am sorry I was not able to get back to you.. as Tom and I were already working to remedy the system! Thank you all! Once I get home, I will correct the problem with the Waveline Controller, and add an additional piece of PVC pipe drilled with holes to the end of the return hose to water can come out the sides and never block up again. The system was running great up until this point...and it seems that bad hose placement caused the issue of the overflow. SO, lessons learned A little about my system: 90 Gal Bow Front 36 Gal Sump Skimmer ATO APEX Automated Water Changes at 1 Gallon per day 40 GAL ATO Tank 40 GAL Salt Water Tank for Automated Water Changes Automated feeder System has been operating without issues for 5 months with me being overseas.. all that has had to be done was to mix salt in the 40 Gal tank with water from the ATO manually, clean skimmer, replace filter socks, refill auto feeder. If I had a different set up for the return hose.. all would still be well. THANKS AGAIN TOM! :clap:We (The fish and I) Owe you and your wife a dinner when I get back!
  5. Thanks keraxis. I appreciate the thought... Hopefully someone will be able to help
  6. Hi gang, So, I am deployed overseas with the military, and today my roommate sent me an email that my tank is overflowing! Now, she is out of town, and will not be back until sunday, and knowing her, she has probably said "F-it!" and left.. So, I need some help. The good news is I have an apex system, and I have remotely turned off all the pumps that pump new water into the system (I have an ATO, and a Automatic Water changing system in place). I also have a camera and while I can see the tank, I cannot see the whole system and see what the problem is. I need someone who is willing to go there (to Arlington near the Pentagon) and look at the system, determine what the problem is, and we figure it out together. I will not be back for another couple months, and have had a 5.5 month run successfully up until now...I imagine that the problem is rather simple, however, I will need help to thoroughly clean up any mess too, and I am not there to make it happen. We have all had a spill, and hopefully, this one has not gotten so bad that it has flooded the entire basement. I have a US Phone number so we can speak on the phone, and I can watch you from the camera and see what is going on. PLEASE HELP! It seems by reviewing my system on apex fusion, that the redundant systems I had installed for the ATO are working, as there are no alarms.. So, what I believe it may be is that the hose for the return is sitting against a clogged filter bag, and the display is not draining fast enough and the sump pump is pumping water from the sump to the display.. thusly causing the overflow in the display. More good news.. Concrete slab where the tank is sitting.. but, the carpets are wet I am sure :/ I you can help, please email me ASAP @ fireman12s a T Hotmail dot come HELP HELP HELP! BLAKE
  7. Yeah.. about that... I have a roommate... I only have a 40 Gallon premix tank.. and have the salt and water portioned and measured out for salinity.. Anyway.. about the switches..
  8. Hi Gang... SO, I have an Apex, and a sump, and a couple pumps, and 2 40 Gal Aux Water tanks (One Salt and one fresh) and an RODI that provides H2o for the Fresh Water tank. However, I have a dilemma. I have created a system to do (Approximately) 1 Gallon a day water changes, but, it is based on timing (X time for pump in sump runs H2O to Deep Sink = Approximately 1 Gallon... then when that ends, another pump in the Aux Salt H2O tank runs for X time to refill the approximately 1 Gallon) The problem here is "Approximately" So, the solution is a water level sensor that hooks to the USB. The idea would work like this. (All systems on the Apex go to stop) The discharge Pump in the sump is hooked up to the Apex and pumps approximately 1 gallon of water to the Deep Sink... (that will be timed for approximately 1 minute) Then the pump goes off.. the remainder of the system goes off, and the "Water level sensor" is then turned on by the apex and realizes "hey low water" to which it then kicks on the pump in the Auxillary tank, thus refilling the sump with a new gallon of Salt Water. Once it has refilled, the thing shuts off.. and approximately 5 minutes later, the Apex completely turns off the Water sensor until the next day. The Apex then turns on all systems again and the cycle starts over the next day. The question is.. has anyone done this before? What sensor did you use, and how did you hook it up to USB port on APEx, and I need an answer soon, as I am getting ready to Deploy for 6 months, and need this system perfected before I go. Oh, and I have tried to look for said switched.. but my ineptness with the internets precludes me from finding such.. so, links would be good.. thanks Something like this might be ideal, but with a USB? http://g02.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1fCXGIXXXXXcxXpXXq6xXFXXXY/Water-Level-Switch-Liquid-Level-Sensor-Liquid-Plastic-Ball-Float-Plastic-Level-Sensors.jpg
  9. Hi gang.. I know it has been a long time since I have been on the forum, but, life and circumstances dictated I didn't have the time to really have a look. Regardless, I need some help. In a couple months I will be deploying with the military overseas. It is my intent to make my system as automated as possible, specifically in regard to water changes. The piping is all set up and ready to go, now I just need to program my Apex to make it work. Here is the deal though. I am looking for someone to come to my house and show me, do it for me, or help me do it. I just don't have the time to read up on it, much less go back and forth here looking at suggestions that may or may not work. So, if you are a dandy at programming an Apex, please let me know. I am willing to pay for a nice dinner somewhere, or maybe more for your effort and time. I have a 90 Gal Bow front tank btw with limited corals and about 8 fish, some shrimp, sea stars, etc. Please PM me if you are able to help. I live in Arlington near 395 and Glebe road. Blake
  10. Hi Gang, Is anyone here an electrician? If so, I would like to speak to you about installing a couple outlets. Please PM me. Thanks! (BTW, I live in South Arlington) B
