Jason Rhoads October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 So they have a $20k price tag on that fish, and couldn't even be bothered to do a write-up on their site?? That kind of pisses me off LOL
epleeds October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 9 fish with a 20k price tag each. Not a bad day at the office....
ctenophore October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 With that many on the market, the exclusivity is gone, so my guess is the going rate just halved itself.
s2nhle October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 Wow, i wonder what is the warranty on these fish? how do they handle the DOA?
roni October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 They are going for about 20-25K. NYA and Living Reef Orlando listed at 20K. Still pretty exclusive club and I doubt you'll see this many hit again for a long time. One guy in New York got 2 and a narcosis. I need to figure out a way to get myself invited over.
gmerek2 October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 Yea ill take two. If you get them to reproduce their fry would be better than a pot o gold.
ctenophore October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 As diving technology and safety gets better and better, these will become more accessible. I predict they become more commonly available and the price will drop correspondingly. Just like L. carmabi. 5 years ago it was a pipe dream fish, now you can get one on Diver's den every week. They're not rare in the wild, just hard to reach. Once somebody like Todd Gardner gets a pair (which I'll guess will happen soon) then that will really open the floodgates. My corollary prediction is that the current marine fish breeding golden age we're starting into right now will show its fruit in about 3-5 years, where nearly all scarcity will essentially vanish.

I'm hopeful that this happens. There's a lady on reefcentral who has just gotten a pair of interruptus and is trying to breed them. Already been successful with a few other angels, though not on a commercial scale. I don't really get the appeal of the narcosis but would love a pair of peppermints if they ever got to a "normal person" budget. The reason for the price is that they are typically found at depths that you need to use a rebreather to get to. It's technically and physical arduous so the price is commensurate.
johnnybv October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 Depth is defiantly reason for the cost, you really need a rebreather to get to them, and you risk your life every time you attempt to collect at that depth.

roni October 12, 2013 October 12, 2013 Someone remind me why anyone should remove these and put them in our shallow brightly lit tanks???? Humans are selfish Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 4 well, why do we keep any fish in our tanks? peppermints are not endangered. those people that can afford to keep them usually have systems that are tailored to them and probably provide them a better home then most of us do for our run of the mill yellow tangs. The guy that has 2 set up a separate 90 gallon tied together with a chiller to a 2000 gallon system just for these guys.
