I understand the desire to simulate nature...

The effect is interesting, but I wonder about practical day-to-day problems like increased salt creep, damage to electronics and stuff. Although it looks like it is an in-store display, which probably makes it more of a novelty.

there should definitely be a splash guard but very neat idea since it does serve as the ATO. A dedicated fish room would be the solution to all the problems mentioned above, with all electrical equipment guarded by water proof boxes in case the rain cloud moved to the outside of the tank

From the description of it being functional as a top-off, I'm guessing it's RO water and salt creep isn't an issue. Funny thing is, as much as they talk about simulating nature, it doesn't rain on the reef EVERY day. Agree that it's more of a novelty....

I think it's pretty darn cool too. It's just hose as well so not that expensive to install. As long as the correct precautions are taken I see it as being no more dangerous than anything else we do in the hobby.

Crazy stuff...

Next people will be dropping bird turds in their tank periodically to "simulate nature"...

Funny!

Shouldn't you be in school, Sam? Hope all's well in college.

Seems to be that way in HI. Nice shower every afternoon! Besides, you put a little gondola boat in there and feel like you are in the Venetian in vegas.

Splashing would be an issue I would think.

I think it's neat and a fun way to raise dissolved oxygen, mostly I envy anyone who has the money for that many LEDs. While I think the lightning part of the software program is a little silly I think it's wonderful that LED's can be programmed for light variation. But even if this is a fresh water rain there will be significant salt creep issues.

They already put chalices in their tanks....

I am, and thanks! I've been here for a few weeks and it's fun... interesting to say the least with the Corps of Cadets at VT. We aren't given the most freedom so I don't have much better to do than come on here and check up on things every once in a while ;)
