  1. Sorry for the poor quality image, can't figure out how to post good pictures anymore. If you are seriously interested, I can send more pictures. Thanks! Moderators: Last time I was here, tank break downs / getting out of the hobby were allowed in this forum, however if that has changed, my apologies and please remove. 2. Hello everyone! I no longer live in the area, so it's been a while... lots of fond memories with this group. My mom would like to break down her aquarium and sell it all as one package. Below are the contents as well as a full tank shot. Here is the build thread, although it was not kept up to date at all unfortunately: Sale options (WAMAS only price): All livestock: $1,200 Livestock + Equipment (no stand): $2,300 Livestock + Equipment + Stand: $3,300 Please do not inquire unless you are interested in the above ENTIRE packages. We are not interested in breaking it up at this point. Livestock: Fish: Bangaii Cardinal Lyretail Anthias (female) Sand Sifting Goby 2 x Occi Clownfish Inverts: Serpent Star Cleaner shrimp Various snails Emerald crabs Corals: Lots of large colonies and some nice frags, what I remember: - branching cyphastrea - meteor cyphastrea - Jack O’Latern Leptoseris - tabling purple acro colony - ORA Hawkins Enchinata colony - ORA Purple Stylo colony - Reef eScape Birdsnest colony - Multi-color Poccilopora - Pink Pocilopora - Strawberry Fields Monti coloni - Purple tabling Monti - Barney encrusting Monti - Very large Golden Eye Chalice - Green Trumpets - Duncan large colony - Green Psammocra large colony - Neon Green Toadstool - Octospawn - Captain America Palys colony - Red Palys - Pagoda Cup Coral colony - Blastomusa colony I’m sure 1 or 2 more that I’m forgetting Live Rock: Approx 50lbs of Marco Rocks LR that has been drilled with fiberglass rods (easily disassembled if it's not what you want) Live Sand: Probably 40lbs Equipment: (BRS Prices) Deep Blue 57 gallon rimless tank with modified overflow (made to be thinner) - $300 new? All plumbing - priceless 30 gal sump/refugium + baffles with: - $100 new - Nyos Quantum 120 Skimmer - $400 new - LED refugium light - $50 new - Octo Varios 2 Return Pump - $248 new - Neotherm Heater - $100 new Custom made screen top $45 new 2 x MP-10s (basic model, not QD or Wireless) ~ $225 each new = $450 ATI Sunpower Dimmable 6x 36watt T5 - $660 new Reefkeeper Lite Controller + power strip - $110 new?? AirWaterIce 5 stage RO/DI- all prefilters and RO membrane changed October - $160 new Total: ~$2,600 new Stand: I custom built this stand to be taller than normal, with no braces across the front. Dimensions approx 51x20x38 to allow up to a 90 gallon tank to sit on top, or this 57 gallon with space on the sides (very handy). It's also waterproof to about 4 inches, has 6 very strong adjustable feet, and has a black granite top. It cost me about $760 and a month to build and frankly is the only thing here that I would prefer to keep. As a result, it will add $1,000 to the cost if you would like it.
  3. As Hilary mentioned, when LFS’ pick up from the airport, they’re getting boxes that have been shipped via the airlines. I have seen a couple online vendors offer this as an option.
  4. Thanks! Ha! Hopefully I’ll make it out again for this MACNA, we’ll see! Mum said she won’t be there though, doesn’t think she could handle a Vegas one after the events in New Orleans
  5. Awesome, looking forward to your review. I’ve yet to find a perfect nano magnet. Just “decent” ones.
  6. Wish I could make it! I have dosed peroxide in several aquariums with great success. Also used it in higher quantities as a dip for rocks and this has worked well too. IME It is a good method to use to control algae AFTER you have solved any nitrate/phosphate traps or issues. This accelerates the treatment of the symptoms, doesn’t necessarily solve the problem.
  7. I have this for my 5g: https://www.marinedepot.com/Vertex_Technologies_Algae_Magnet_Cleaner_Floating_Algae_Magnets-Vertex_Technologies-VX10940-FIMTAMCMFM-vi.html I really like the way it looks, it's small, very strong for its size, and cleans well. However, it does not float and has some trouble with strong encrusting stuff like coraline so would probably not help with your application. My hesitation with the magflip is that the scraper is plastic, which IME does next to nothing. Tagging along to see what you find. I'd be interested in a nano-sized scraper blade too.
  8. Haha I like it! Maybe if I ever get a partner for him (later her?) that can be a name! That's cool, how was shipping from PR? Were there any additional permits needed since it's a territory? Thanks, I'm glad to have it as an option now! Also a lot less nervous about buying corals at MACNA / etc and flying home with them. Thanks! I love those pics too, thanks! Yep, there is no restriction on water for animals. These are the pages I had printed and on hand going through TSA: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/live-coral https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/live-fish This also mentions fish: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/travel-tips/taking-your-human-plane-what-every-pet-needs-know And actually looking at the website again, they no longer explicitly state that the rule is waived - but it is. I suggest calling ahead, getting someones name, etc. This quote used to be on the website "Live fish must be transported in a clear, plastic, spill proof container. In this case, the container may be larger than 3.4 ounces. A Transportation Security Officer will visually inspect your live fish at the checkpoint." I guess they deleted that part as a way to cover themselves in case someone brought excess amounts?
  9. Dang, definitely tough to read. Especially given the positive stories we were hearing about the PNG fishery several years ago, especially around the time of the Orlando MACNA. Does anyone know what the state of the PNG ornamental industry is now? I remember them running into a bunch of political and monetary issues a couple years ago. I didn't realize they'd started back up.
  10. I thought I’d share my experience moving my whole 5g setup on a domestic flight. Hopefully this will help others in similar situations! As many know, I moved to Mississippi about a year ago for work, but had to leave both my setups at home with my parents. My mom adopted the 57g and it’s still looking great! Over Christmas I was finally able to bring my 5g down here though. Before going home for xmas, I set up an RODI unit in MS and mixed up some saltwater. This could have easily done without he prep work- just buy water instead. This is the tank a few months before the move (I’ll admit it was neglected and many of the anemones had shrunk in the months after this was taken though): The first thing I did was remove all 6 anemones from the rock (this was the hardest part of the move). I gave them 2 days to heal in a breeder basket before the move. The animals: On flying day, I split the nems between two water bottles and put the clown fish in one of the bottles. The smaller rock covered in GSP and snails went into a Tupperware. All three containers went into my carry-on in a lunchbox with some hand warmers. The rock: I wrapped the LR in wet rags, double garbage bagged, then put into a styro with hand warmers. The sand: I rinsed then put in a tripled freezer bag. The glass tank: Was cleaned, dried, then filled with the bag of sand, a bunch of the cleaned and dried equipment, and clothes to fill the space. I then put it into a tight fitting cardboard box, and then surrounded that box with a ton of bubble wrap/packing supplies in a bigger box. Other equipment/lights: These got packed into my checked bag of clothes/etc. In total I had a checked box, a checked bag, and a carry on backpack. In each checked item I put a paper list of what was in the container and explanation as necessary (what is Live Rock for example). For carry-on, I printed out pictures of what all the coral/nems looked like when open or closed as well as screenshots of the TSA webpages that allow unlimited water for fish and corals. At the airport: I flew Southwest and checking the bag/box was super easy. They covered he box in fragile stickers but didn’t need any explanation. TSA took a little while. I sent the lunchbox through the scanner separately, knowing it would be pulled aside. I showed them the TSA printouts and they had no issues with the fish container. The coral/nems took more convincing. I had to explain that what I had was coral/anemones. They were animals - not plants. They were alive and no, they wouldn’t be ok if I poured the water out haha. Overall they were very professional and easy to deal with, just took a little explanation. The area supervisor said he had to call his supervisor, but came back a few minutes later and said it was no problem and I was cleared through! They did the swabby chemical test on the luncchbox and outside of the containers but that was it. After arriving in Atlanta, it turned out TSA had opened the cardboard box and done a HORRIBLE job re-packing it. I was amazed there was no damage to the tank! Props to Southwest for that. I had a 4 hour drive back to MS from there. Once home I immediately set up the tank with the new salt water and LR. After a couple hours I acclimated and added the livestock. Everything survived perfectly, but one anemone died about 2 days later. It was the most damaged of the six from the removal process and I think the stress of the move did it in. A big water change was done 4 days after the move and weekly for the next couple weeks. I decided not to add the sand immediately because it was starting to smell funky. I ended up re-cycling the sand in another container and adding it a month later. I had a slight algae bloom initially, but it went away after a couple water changes. In review, I’d do it again, and it turned out to be quite easy at the airport. I will use a bigger container for the fish though (thinking 0.5-1.0L) and only half fill it with water. The fish was struggling by the time I got him in the tank and I think it was oxygen deprivation. I had foreseen this given the smaller bottles, but planned to open them regularly in the flight and I left the lids open during the drive. Clearly this wasn’t enough though. The trouble was definitely worth it, the clown (name JM) is my little bro and went back and forth to college many times with me! He’s also popular among my friends, so I received a few threats that he better survive from friends who heard about the plan to move him haha. If anyone has any thoughts on how to improve this process or inputs, please post up! Anyways, here’s the tank now and JM the aviator: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Any ideas what’s going on with my strawberry fields monti? It got these white patches about a month ago and seems to not be getting any better, or worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Hoping someone here might be able to help. Trying to replace a modified ecopico 5.1 gal. 10x10x12 dimensions. Just the glass box ideally. It appears ecopico discontinued production of this tank and I'm having trouble finding others that are the same dimension. I thought Mr. Aqua made one, but now can't seem to find it. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3730+36307&pcatid=36307&s=lhThis is the closest I found, but it seems you have to buy the whole set up. I just want the tank! Anyone have any suggestions?
  13. Just about everything in that guys post is enormously irresponsible. Can't use the language I'd like to use to describe him here.......
  14. A golden back trigger PAIR?! Dang dude!
