  1. I too struggle with salinity, I use a refractometer and will get different readings from two different calibration fluids that are supposed to be the same ppt. Maybe I should look more closely at the hydrometer. Thanks for posting your strategy. Darren
  2. Cool hobby! Now you need some opal to work with 🙂 Darren
  3. Nice growth, I am really digging that rhomboid wrasse! Darren
  4. I love this idea….my son and I go to reef escape all the time, we would definitely be in. Darren
  5. So sorry to see this….thanks for sharing Darren
  6. Reef escape is my go to in the area…..supreme reefs has some nice high end corals if you are looking. Darren
  7. Beautiful, jawbreakers are so cool…thanks for sharing Darren
  8. I have the Red Sea roller mat and it is an impressive tool (probably the best invention since the protein skimmer IMO ).It was far superior to the theiling mat I had before it. Also, you can just purchase a DC pump for your skimmer….I recommend sicce PSK pump, I use it and am really happy with it. Also, you can check out either of these on my tank if you want to see them in action. Darren
  9. That scape is beautiful Lynn! I can’t wait to see it full of corals Darren
  10. beautiful pic, enjoy retirement!
  11. IMO heaters haven’t changed in decades. I monitor temp with my apex but control it with a simple Inkbird controller. I undersized my heater so it takes longer to heat the aquarium so it doesn’t switch on and off as much and i let my temp swing by 2 d F. I purchase a new one each year as the titanium heaters are cheap and usually what fails in them is the switching element. This is my heating strategy until I see real improvement in heater reliability. Darren
  12. Manual removal is fine, if it keeps coming back then use hydrogen peroxide. IME, tangs like to pick when the algae is not grown out, but your mileage will vary with all fish…. good luck, Darren
  13. I will be there Saturday morning…..let me know if you want to meet up…. Darren
  14. Buy a glass aquarium for your sump that gives you plenty of space inside the stand for other stuff (like dosers ato refuge etc). You will be thankful later as your tank evolves. You don’t need all of those compartments and they limit how you can upgrade your filtration down the road. You will also save a ton of $ as sumps are super expensive compared to a 40 breeder at pet smart. You can spend that money on more corals and fish 😉 Darren
  15. Thanks for the advice, I ended up taking two days to get back to the proper temperature…..all looks fine. Darren
  16. Hi all, I noticed today that my heating control system failed (I’m glad I have an apex back up for monitoring). Anywho, the tank temp has dropped to 70, whereas my set point is 76. Corals and fish seem fine…..how fast do you think I should ramp up my temperature to my set point? It looks like this happened on Thursday….. thanks Darren
  17. Anyone try this: https://reefbuilders.com/2023/01/17/are-resting-copepod-eggs-the-next-aquaculture-revolution/ Seems like it could be a game changer, but it could just be hype…. Darren
  18. Ordering was easy, I only did the 10 lb shipped to your door in water option so just like buying anything else from the internet. I did not do the pickup at airport option that people who purchase a lot of rock do, which is what I think your question was asking…… Darren
