So happy with the tank. Only need to sort out a fee things. Need to find a check valve for 1/2" I'd tubing. Also need to sort out the skimmer issues. Other than that I have the normal diatom bloom and still reading 0 on ammonia nitrites and nitrates.

What did you end up doing to skin the stand?

I bought 4x8' of maple and cut all the sides out of that. I then primed the sanded, painted black then sanded, and then painted again. I the screwed magnets inside to hold it to the steel frame. Works perfectly.

Looking very nice. Is it gonna be bare-bottom? I love the new rock additions and the rock work!

Very neat!

Thanks!

Yep the tank is going to be bare bottom. This is my 3rd tank and I've never had a lot of luck keeping the sand clean. This time however, I went with starboard to act like a "false" sand. It takes a while but looks great once covered in coraline and corals.

I've got a nice bloom of diatoms right now. The tank is moving along perfectly. However, I'm a little confused that I still have zero readings for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

Also, I did add my first coral! I couldn't leave BRK without this neon green toadstool. It fully opened up after 30 minutes of being in the tank and looks amazing under the T5's.

I just saw this tank the other day. It is way bigger than the pictures look. It is going to be amazing when the corals start filling in and its full of fish.

Glad to hear that. I think I got accustomed to the size and it feels small to me now. I think it's because I don't have any real fish or corals in there yet to give me perspective.

that is a BEAST of a tank man, congrats on the new build.

Thanks!

Also, weird update. One Chromis made its way over the overflow, down the stand pipe, into a T, through a ball valve and into the refugium. Found him swimming in there last night un-phased.

Dumped the first batch of skimmate and it was the most rancid stuff I have ever smells. New tank skimmate is nassssty!

I was also able to lower the skimmer and put the gate valve back on!

looking good, i like the rockwork

how come you added sand? i still love barebottom but do miss my sandbed from years ago from time to time.

I may have a few donations if your in need and ever near arlington as well.

Happy to help.!! The tank looks great.! Its funny that your rock work looks so small in EVERY picture, but in person it doesnt look small at all. The aquascape fits the tank perfectly.. Its going to look amazing once its stocked up and full.!!

Donations are always welcome ;). I work in Falls Church so I'm not too far. I couldn't stand the look of the BB anymore. Also got sick of everyone in my family and friends asking where the sand is. I want to get it up to 1-2" deep so it's easy to keep up with but enough so I can still keep a wrasse or two.

It's probably bacuse it's hard to judge how big the tank with in the pic. I'll need to get a FTS with someone standing next to it. Thanks again

Yeah, the tank is really big/bulky, but its not long, I think thats what throws off the look of how big it is in the pics. BTW, I got my magnets and pegboard, so I will probably be calling you this weekend for advise..
