  1. Have you ever checked out Coolerguys.com. They pretty got everything you need for fans. I will let you do the looking on the web site for anything to fit your needs.
  2. Not to start a discussion on UV filter, but if the flow is sized to match the capacity of a UV filter, one could be added in-line on a closed loop.
  3. I have a lamark now for four years and NEVER had a problem. Eats anything I put in the tank and never touched my sps, lps, and large clam. Keep them well fed and it may turn around on you so you don't have to get rid of them.
  4. Welcome. Research and taking your time are the best things you can do. Sent from my iMac using my keyboard and fingers.
  5. Room for at least double. That back glass can grow a massive colony of encrusting gorgornian (whats on my back wall, well it is what Scott (scott711) said it was).
  6. On the length of time before changing the T5's, I thought 18 months too. Then I went to The_Grim_Reefer's web site (reefcentral T5 guru). Under the link to "T5 Basics" on the left side of the page he recommends that you only go 12 months and if you have high light requirement, drop that to 10 months. Also interesting note on where to cool the bulbs. Run a fan across the ends that have the labels printed on the lamp for optimal performance. Cooling the center of the bulb can have negative affects he says.
  7. Why would you want to control a bridge and know it temperature and pH?
  8. Francis, I see you went and got it. Nice.
  9. That is in the wild. It will never get that big in your tank.
  10. Your going to want to move the rock column on the right side away from the glass. It looks close enough that a magnetic glass cleaner would not be able to get between the rock and glass. Keeping the viewing panes clean make for a nice tank.
  11. Lamark Angelfish. Totally reef safe, cheap price, eats anything and over time develops short streamers on the tail.
  12. When that star is finish it will be just bones.
  13. You can always put a tee after your return pump and branch off pipe back into your sump with a valve on it. This can go into a fuge section or even feed a recirculating skimmer. You then can control flow into the main tank through this valve.
  14. Eric Borneman starting a thread (Coral Polup Extrusion) on ReefCentral back in 2003 on corals reproducing this way. The thread died in 2006 though.
  15. The original post said his bill went up $86. At $2 per 1000, that means your water consumption went up 43,000 gallons? For math sake a waste/good water from your RO unit of 4.3:1, that is 1,000 gallons of RO water in your tank or approx 330 gal per month you are replacing and your signature says you have a 70g tank. That is one heck of a evaporation rate, even if you did a 100 percent water change per month. Check that toilet.
  16. I have found that Spectrapure has great manuals with clear and concise hook-up diagrams in the text that can be very helpful (for any system). Look under the 'Level Controllers' section and go through those to check which one is similar to your setup. There are different kinds of check valves including those that are in an 90 degree elbow that would get connected to the membrane housing. Looks like Spectapure recommends a 1 lb check valve at that point.
  17. How much water are you using? In Loudoun the rate is just less than $2 per 1,000 gallons. Do you have an Automatic Shutoff Valve? If not and the RO unit is connected directly to a water source, you could be sending water down the drain constantly.
  18. If painting, use a roller for smooth surfaces (glass), that would not be your standard 3/8" nap roller you use on your wall.
  19. I second that totally. You will be much happier and for all the money on those gadgets you have bought, the safety of a proper hanging kit is a cheap investment. It would suck to have it all ruined because of the failure of the pvc. You said it is already bending. Add the heat from the lamp and it will bend even more and into the tank it may go killing you system and possibly causing a fire! Hang the light with your PVC hanger over your bathroom tub and fill tub with water, turn your halides on, and then YOU jump in the tub. Are we feeling safe now?? BTW, I see that light switch on the wall right behind the tank. I would cover that is some way. With an open top and if fish are in there, they will splash and it could go into that switch causing an electrical issue.
