  1. Missed out on this one. Unexpected trip to Michigan. Maybe next time.
  2. That would be the Picture of the Year
  3. As far a cleaning the sump. I just did mine for the first time in 6 years. I talked to Sean at Fins & Feathers and he suggested Bucket Head for siphoning the junk out of the bottom. What is bucket head? It is a wet/dry vacuum that snaps on top of one of those HD orange buckets. This this is awesome, sucked up the water in the chambers while I had the hose on the bottom getting all the junk. The unit has a large ball float inside that will cut off the motor as the bucket fills. However, as the water get about 3/4 up it start to be spit out the outlet port. No biggie on that though, I just stopped and emptied the bucket. I have other wet/dry vacs, but this one will be dedicated to the tank and is small and the bucket is easy to empty and start again. Also, this thing is only $20! Cant beat that. Thanks for the tip Sean! My sump is clean again.
  4. Welcome Jason. You took my advice and came off the BB and took a seat in the WAMAS crowd. Look forward to guiding your journey (we will talk at work).
  5. I have retro fit of 6x T5's on my 90. I overdrive four with IceCap 660 ballast. LPS, SPS, Clam, and softies. Never a problem. Should be POST 1000 for me!
  6. Show off! How about frags for all your fellow Ashburn reefers.
  7. Tom, What about using the John Guest or Mur-lok quick connects throughout. This link JG reducers has 1/2 to 3/8 and then 3/8 to 1/4. You would only need the 3/8 tubing in between to connect. Also, would this connector available from BRS work in your setup? BRS sells these 1/2 quick connects as part of there reactor setup. You can also buy separately. I have the 1/2 to 1/2 straight and elbows from them to connect my MJ to my Kent reactor with modified ports. When I want to do water changes, I use this pump by disconnecting the reactor and connecting a longer 1/2 ridged line (from BRS also). You can get them in black to match the pump and line too. They offered the locking clips when I got them, but I don't see them on there now. Chris
  8. Came across this while surfing the net today. It is about the 12th one down the page. Don't know if anyone else has posted on this here. Avast Marine Swabbie Protein Skimmer Neck Cleaner CONGRATULATIONS guys!
  9. The pinnacle of a in-home reef system. Absolutely awesome! Plug for WAMAS at the end of his article too. Way to go JOHN.
  10. T. Maxima clam 9-10 inch shell, expands well over a foot. Got it from F&F maybe 4 years ago when it was about 3-4 inches. Luckly my Lamark Angel does not bother it at all.
  11. There are many out there that would say reefkeeping was not it's infancy in 2000 - hobbyists, pros, and vendors. Marine Scene has been around for 15 years or so, GARF has been around a while promoting frag husbandry, and Tropicorium coral farm since 70s. As for local clubs, CMAS has been around longer that WAMAS.
  12. I will have the following available at the meeting. Thanks.
  13. I am no structural engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn before... Seems like the side 2x8s would be the weak point in the design with those 45-degree cuts (think of the locations of where these are fastened). The only real support under those 2x8s is along the inside edge and putting an upward force on whatever fasteners you have on the 2x8s along that side edge because the outer edge is where the tank is putting the downward force the most. The result for the sides is the tank weight is concentrated along that outer 2x4 and there is not much support to carry that load into the rest of the stand. This is not the case for the front and back 2x8s because they have the supported joists to carry the load carry the load across the stand front to back. If the front and rear flat 2x8s were extended all the way to the sides without a 45-degree cut. This would then tie in the corner weight and support needed into those 2x8s that have the joints under them spreading the load out. The remainder side 2x8s would be shorter and loads would be carried better to the front 2x8s. Also, you could double up the 2x4s that are under the top structure and connected to the vertical 2x8s. This would add more support to those 2x8s that are laid flat. Am I seeing this incorrectly?
