Hoping to jump from FW to SW
mari.harutunian replied to Aquastudent's topic in Welcome to WAMAS: FAQ / FYI / Hobby News
I said REEF2REEF as they are usually the first to show up in a google search and personally I’m not good at finding old topics here on WAMAS. But everything can always be asked anew here and everyone is happy to answer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Hoping to jump from FW to SW

Welcome! There are a lot of great resources online that can help you. If someone has asked it, it’s probably been answered on REEF2REEF. Starting a saltwater tank can be a large investment when it comes to equipment and livestock. You can save a lot from buying used equipment here when it shows up. Make sure to look up how a saltwater cycle works, look into rocks, the benefit of sumps, protein skimmers, ATOs, and then a backup generator or battery packs to protect your investment. I have a 36 gallon reef tank full of corals and my power was out for 48 hours from that wind storm. A small $100 generator kept everything from dying. Whether or not that cheap generator will ever work again is a different story. Oh also YouTube! There are a ton of great tutorials and reviews like stuff from Bulk reef supply. Welcome to the club! I love the industrial and smooth look of your tank setup!! Very clean while also showing off the equipment. I’m nearby in Clarksville. How long has your tank been running? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
You should check out prestige reef on YouTube he is also raising banggai fry right now and talks about the importance of nutrition if i remember correctly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Power is back. Bubble tips are pissed and moving. Was out since 2:30 on Friday. Got down to below 70° but exact # unknown. Tank smells like stressed corals. Have a 3 gal empty tank that only had 3 ricordea and let me tell you i did nothing for it and it got to at least room temp which was 57°... they’re alive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Power has been out for more than 24 hours. Tank was below 70° yesterday. First old Generator did not work so we went to all the shops and found a cheap $100 700 watt at Walmart just when i had given up and was sure my small tank was done for. Works well so far. Running the heater and one powerhead. Tank is at a steady 75°. How long can i go like this on a 36 gallon tank full of corals w/ 3 fish? BGE says power will be restored Sunday night earliest and mid week latest. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lucky i barely slept a wink. All the windows in my house are creeky. Though i re-caught the flu so i may just wake up bc of that too. My power has finally gone out. How do i find information on when it will be restored?(if any) It’s been out for an hour. Only 3 fish in 36 gallons and tons of coral. My dad will be home at 5 to hopefully setup the generator. So far I’ve been spared. Lots of trees downed. The 30ft top of one broke off and stuck into the ground like a spear. Unrelated- did anyone actually sleep last night? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Recommendations for local scuba training?
mari.harutunian replied to Jon Lazar's topic in General Discussion
I was trained through my school in partner with a diving company here in MD. Believe it’s called Aquatic Connection Scuba and my instructor was Steve Deem. Great guy. Not sure if they reach out to VA but one of their certification spots is in PA so who knows. Will be getting certified in Cozumel over spring break. Super excited!! There are some great member deals on livestock and equipment on here sometimes as well as great conversation. Hard to tell what’s member discussion and what’s not since I’ve been a member for a while though. Worth the $20! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Had a wonderful time! Got a very cool lavender acro, deep purple stylo, frogspawn, and some mystery mushrooms that haven’t really opened. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I went with an arch with mine and it really takes up a lot of light. Ended up changing it later to have various terraces for different levels of light. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thanks that’s a gorgeous leather. I have a small one of the same kind but it doesn’t have very good polyp extension. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am sick at home with the flu and have too much time. My favorite coral changes every week but this week it’s “blue” cespitularia. Wish the video could be posted as well because it waves in the current. This thing has quadrupled in size since i got it not too long ago. Once i put it in the right spot to catch flow it really got long. What’s your favorite coral in your tank? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bet amazon will have a bit. They have everything. Maybe even a stone specific bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe a dremel with a diamond bit? Depends how hard the rock is Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
