  1. I agree. I just don’t know what the continuous source would be, whether it’s my cats continuous use of the litter box or something else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I did ventilate between the first and second set of jar tests. Litter box only moved to a different room corner. Air test strips arrive Mondayish so we’ll see. Would Ventilation be minutes, hours, or days??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. That’s very possible. We have all new hardwood since 4 years ago when we moved but the previous owner has 3 dogs and a cat. It could have soaked into the wood even. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. The ammonia gas test strips I’m getting may shed more light on this. The litter box is in the same room but all the doors are open and it’s cleaned regularly. Both pets are unable to urinate into anything that tall but for all i know they could be urinating in the corner of the room. A UV light may be in order. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. That will be my next test but instead of using the water jars I’m ordering test strips meant to test ammonia gas concentration. When those arrive I’m just going to test everything. Also I’m highly allergic to mold and have had a lot more allergies since moving to this house. We had a black mold problem in the basement when we got here. There’s a leak in my ceiling??? Because My room is backed against the fireplace. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. 2 cleaned mason jars, 300 ml of tap water both tested at the start @ 6:35 pm 4/2 negative for ammonia. Jar #1 is in upstairs spare bedroom previously used as an area to mix water. Jar #1 @12:38am 4/3 registers .5 ppm already and even smells like ammonia. Jar #2 is on the floor below on the opposite end of the house and does not smell like ammonia or register any when tested at 12:50am 4/3. Time elapsed is over 6 hours so could it be fair to say my tank could be taking in 1ppm ammonia every 12 hours??? How much ammonia gas does it take to make 300 ml of water get to .5 ppm ammonia in 6 hours????? Any chemists and mathematicians? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Do you happen to have a cat? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Good point. Hadn’t thought of it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I’ll give it a try. I have moved the litter box and aired out the room so my results may change. I’ll just keep doing the mason jar test i guess. My freshwater tank in the same room is doing wonderfully though. Albeit messy as most of the plants came out of the soil. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. This sounds familiar. We both have cats and moved into houses with previous water damage. Could be coincidence. Have a feeling my story will end the same way if there’s no solution though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Open top cleaned mason jar test for a few days.... initially, i had it closed for 3 days then it came up negative, then opened it. I admit i did let it sit without testing twice a day. This is after 2 or three days open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I have one cat but she’s 14 and needs steps to get onto anything. She would not be able to jump so high. The litter box is nearby if fumes matter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I’ve tested my RODI on multiple occasions. And tap, fresh saltwater, sitting saltwater in the bins, sitting freshwater in the bins, and tank water. I was wondering if it could be the air. Feeling a bit crazy chasing after these weird possibilities. Reef conspiracy theorist lol. Will set out a Mason jar with RODI and go from there, thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Through what mechanism is an open top trash can getting ammonia and how should i seal it airtight? It came with no top. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. No pumps. Just the brute. This one was uncovered for the last picture though. That’s 3 days of sitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. The trashcan is in a dark spare closet, no mold i checked. There was no top for this can when i bought it so it was uncovered. The last one was covered but i doubt it was airtight(do I Saran Wrap it?). I’ll put some water in some closed mason jars with some plastic shavings in each and then one open top one with and without plastic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Brand new, washed and scrubbed with vinegar. It’s RODI water that sat in the bin for a few days and the test kit is an unexpired API Kit. I am just not sure what to do anymore. Does Hanna make ammonia checkers? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Wow no clue these existed thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Out of tap, out of RODI, and after mixing fresh, is zero ppm ammonia. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. 8+ ppm. I dont think API can read higher than 8. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I have tested my tap, RODI, fresh mixed salt, tank water, and now my mixed salt water for that has sat in my Rubbermaid for a few days for ammonia multiple times. The problem seems to be either the bin itself or something getting into it. Regardless, I’m getting rid of it. My question is: is this a known phenomena? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Look like nudibranchs to me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. The guy i got my clam from said certain snails-forgot the name, it’s on the tip of my tongue- will wedge themselves into the shell and the clam will try to close but the snail will eat the mantle. It’s those snails that come out of the sand when you feed and have the little trunks. Now I don’t know how true it is but he was selling a bunch of large healthy clams. 24. Colonial tunicates? Small ones Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I’ve got one smaller. Probably ~2 gallons. Not a reef yet but any mostly airtight vase with a heater, light, and bubbler does the trick. Then i have like one branch of cycled Tonga, a barnacle cluster off amazon for decor, a black Caribbean sailfin blenny, and some red macro. Unlike me tho, pick a simpler shaped vase. This one is ridiculously hard to clean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
