  1. I too am looking into LED. Manufacturers "Claimed" that it's last approx. 10 years. Now, has anyone here or anywhere else ever use it for that many years yet? What's about the spectrum! does the LED's spectrum really last as long as the LED? not even considering the fixture and it's components!. Recently GE introduces LED light bulbs that supposedly last 50 years. YES, "50 YEARS"! Oh really!!, can someone PM me to my grave address! Anyway, (IMO) I think it's all boiled down to each individual preference or "WANT".
  2. Wow! only took 4 hours? I thought it would takes weeks.
  3. Nice looking tank man! the stand is a bit low for my taste.
  4. Oh! I have never seen a 4 feet (48") t5 bulb before! however there are 5' (60") 80W ones.
  5. You need to check your light fixture to see what is the maximum rating for the fixture. Your fixture is likely a 200-230watts fixture. I'd upgrade the fixture to a larger one IF you are going to have corals. Some soft corals may be ok with your existing fixture. For your 135G, typically you will need at least 3 watts per gal. (400 watts or more), Unless you are getting LED's.
  6. I finally caught the velvet damsel (beautify fish imo, but ughh!!) from my heavily aquascape mixed reef tank after months of trying different types of traps. I used many bottle traps as well as my own innovated invisible bag trap. Caught everything else in the tank but the velvet. As my last resort, I decided to removed most of the corals and LR out last night to catch this bugger. Cornered him many times but the little bugger managed to escaped. After 2 looooooong hours!!! he was caught and transferred to the sump. Then another 2 more hours to re-aquascape but was unable to put it back the way I had it. What a night!! Hopefully, no damage to the my reef residents with this ordeal! Well, lesson learned...never put another "reefsafe with caution" or "reef compatible" fish into the reef tank again.
  7. It's name said it! But should be for the buyers.
  8. My brother got one in his tank. It's growing very fast. He got it last year around 6 inches long. now it's 2.5 feet long. Will probably need a new home soon.
  9. I thought its only works for jellyfish sting! but doesn't hurt to try
  10. Nice catch! Wish I can catch my velvet. Trying to catch it close to a month now. I guessed I have longest record then.
  11. Looks painful! I brought a pair of gloves to use but hate using them. I'd better start using them from now on.
  12. Sorry Wogga, I had totally disagrees with you on your opinion on "pho" restaurants. I know everyone have their own taste and opinion! But I, personally have not seen best "pho" in the whole dc metro area! Reason, is that all of them are made with MSG and salt! Only place that I consider average is "pho nam" on shady grove rd, Rockville. Best pho is one you made at home with real broth and fresh meat.
  13. I trained my kids not to messing around the tank!
  14. That's huge! I think I lost my Maxima clam to those bristle worms. Completely clean out the maxima clam over night!
  15. Welcome soon to be neighbor! BTW, have you been to San Sushi in Townson? IMO it's the best Sushi in that area. They also have a Thai's restaurant interconnected to it.
  16. get a refractometer! my hydrometers read 1.023. with the refractometer, actual salinity is between 1.025-1.026.
  17. Don't waste the live sand! Reefers spent $$ to obtain "live sand". Rinse and reuse.
  18. Forget the bio-ball unless you planned to clean it regularly. Go with LR/rubble. Here is my 70G sump-refugium I built 3 months ago. (ALL GLASS) It 's 4 chambers from left to right. 1) overflow+in-sump protein skimmer. 2) Flow over and under into 2nd chamber (refugium w/ 5-6 inches of sand) (I called it sand filter/refugium stage). 3) flow over to front chamber filled with live rocks topped with drip tray. 4) water flow under from 3rd chamber to 4th chamber (return pump, I also through in some bagged activate carbon in this chamber) I measured my overflow and left out the same amount in the sump (mine is about 20-25 Gallons) in case of pump failure or power failure so to prevent flooding. http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/

Or buy one from this guy located in Gaithersburg MD. I am sure there are many local in your area! search "rain barrel" http://www.aquabarrel.com/product_barrels_only.php
  20. Thanks for the tips. Hopefully PEPCO is prepared.
  21. I am surprised your're not in the dog house for that or not allow to have anymore tank. If it was me, I pretty sure i'll be in the dog house!
  22. I installed my own carpet in the basement. Thus, I was able use the saving toward high quality padding that does not absorb water. I lift part of the carpet off the wall and dry everything under neath. But still running my fans for another day or two just in case.
  23. Bummer! Your're just too far. How about find a public storage that have electrical outlets and move your live stock in there! Good luck
  24. It's only clean when we have guests over!
