  1. sorry to hear . Hope the ins. covered everything.
  2. just got power back 2 hrs go. Sorry to hear those who lost their livestocks. lost power for 47 hours. Manage to lost only one peppermint (do not know if lost any other inverts). Fortunately for me, my tanks are in the basement and temp is average around 78-79. Around the 12-13 hours after lost of power, Since I was unable to obtain an generator. At last resort, I ran an extension core from my car 150W portable inverter and tried to power my mag 9.5 (93W). It's ran for almost 1 hour and burned out the inverter (Dud! panic and wasn't thinking, should have just run air pumps instead, LESSON LEARN!). On the other hand, since I was able to run my water through the sump for 1 hour, I think believed alone that saved my reef tank. I don't know what would happen if I did not get power today! Good luck to all out there. Chuck
  3. Super! Thanks
  4. Hi folks, my BTA just split today. I noticed the smaller one (lets call it "kid") move away for the bigger one (mom). But now it's moving back toward its mom. Will they sting each other?
  5. Thanks Dave, I found some on the Net after all. I miss-spelled it, dud!. Appears to resemble what I have. I guessed I just go with that for now. Thanks http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0819130.htmlhttp://reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-07/rs/index.php
  6. A brief education on "colonial foraminiferans" please. I don't see much about it on the Net.
  7. Wow! this got me interested in ATS. Are there ATS in the market or it's DIY only?
  8. Something ate those "algae" in the last photo. Maybe the blue leg hermie. Here is a better one at on a LR. Took a while to get a good shot. The yellow tang kept getting in the way. http://www.flickr.com/photos/10002234@N07/7458026548/in/photostream
  9. They don't looks like hydroids. Let see if I can get a better zoom. I don't have one of those fancy Nikon or Cannon
  10. I have these things on my LR for a while now. It's looks like tiny roots. They don't really bother me much, but lately seem to be spreading a bit. I usually scrubbed them out with a toothbrush. Is it some kind of algae? Should I be concern down the road? Thanks http://www.flickr.com/photos/10002234@N07/7456359014/in/photostream
  11. You have a point there. Originally, I had a problem with the velvet damsel. He nipped at everything in the DT (killed may of my zoas colonies. however, I captured him a few weeks ago. Everything else seem happy, so the light shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I'll swap it with the other GSP in the sump as an experiment. BTW, when you are settled in Kentlands, maybe I can swing by to see your set up. Chuck
  12. Not a problem. It's appears to me that some thrives and some just don't. These (GSP, yellow polyps, xenia, kenya tree) are suppose to grow like "weed" for many people. My button polyps has the same problem as yours. got 5-6 polyps and triple in 1 month. Then all the suddenly shrunk. But now coming back around. Also, never had any luck with xenia. Tried many time unsuccessfully. But only one small frag survived in the sump.
  13. These were long green GSP, waving and everything when I got them monhts ago. Thanks for the generous offer. Just to far for me. Chuck
  14. A LFS guy once quoted to me: "if we know everything about reefing, then it wouldn't be called a hobby"
  15. I have this GSP colony for many months now (4 months). Its opened up and extended normally after I got it. Then about a week into, it stopped extending and looks like this (see photo) from then on. I also have a second colony GSP that was doing the same thing, so I moved into the refugium. It's been normal in the fuge so I left it there. I wonder anyone have any idea what wrong with it? possible lighting? (I moved it around to different part of the tank but seem to be the same). Temp: 82 ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0 pH: 8-8.2 salinity: 1.025 http://www.flickr.com/photos/10002234@N07/7451513330/in/photostream
  16. Cover you sump will greatly reduces evaporation too. But it will slightly increases you tank temp.
  17. Kentlands is nice, got a good shopping center there. As far a LFS, not that many comparing to years ago.
  18. +1, I have a large orange one and was looking to trade it for a green one. I am sure many people would love to take them off your hand if you post it here.
  19. Nice looking tank! very "unique" trim all around.
  20. Nice! what type of light you have them under? Tell me its isn't LED's
  21. Gaithersburg Glass Co. charged an arm and leg for their glass. If I remember correctly, they once quote me $60 for a 18"x18" x (1/4)". You can always glue 2 sheets of glass together or utilize a "T" configuration for stronger support, IMO.
  22. I agreed, they are thin 3/16 I believed. But will do for DYI sump purpose. I used them to built the 70G refugium. I also use them as sump/refug covers. They don't warp like acrylic.
  23. Give them a call first! I don't know if every Lowes carry glass. I'd cut my own too. It's pretty easy, ugh! once you get a hang of it! Also, they are extremely sharp! wear gloves when handle glass.
  24. I got mine @ Lowes. They have up to 36"x36". Cheap too!
