eric has it right. unfortunately prophylactic treatment really is necessary in most cases. many fish i come across are asymptomatic or symptoms will not be caught by the casual reefing enthusisant. that doesn't mean they don't make excellent carriers, of course, able to nuke a tank. quarantining is great but if able and competent, prophylaxis offers wonderful results and assurances.

make sure to clean all associated equipment and qt tank with a bleach solution or similar then rinse with dechlorinator and air dry for a day in the sun if possible

are you sure you are dealing with black ich? care for another opinion if you want to post up some clear photos and/or video? if you're really set on using formalin and aware of it's dangers i am happy to help and have sufficient to spare you can use for free as wamas family.

wow. that was quick - good work and hope the dinos stay at bay. i'll hook you up with an alkatronic bud and you'll be set; never have to worry about alk ever again. and all the data and stuff you learn about the tank when you start to see the trends. i think you'll find it much more friendly and a welcome addition to the reef than what the trident seems to be all about.
