  1. That's where I got my 40. You might hit up jonyon on here, he had some used 40's might could get for less. thx
  2. I've heard that as well. Where do you get them?
  3. +1 on the double 2" drains. I have a smaller panworld tank doing a different job and have been very pleased with it.
  4. 55 is fine...it s what most of us start with. The problem is that is gets full so fast, you'll find yourself wishing you'd done a 75 or a 90. This is my actual story, in fact. However, since you own the 55, that's a powerful incentive, and if you plan carefully anything you buy for the 55 will fit the larger 48" (75 or 90g) tank when you upgrade next year Thx and good luck
  5. I posted the other day about a discount from Glass-Holes.com. Comes with everything you need to do this job. I would go with their monster overflow for a tank this big, just make sure you get a pump to drive it. Drilling really isn't all that hard and they include all instructions.
  6. Steve I did this research the other day... http://totaltracklighting.com/ has all this stuff, however, by the time I pieced it all together, paid their $5 fee for small orders, and shipping, it was more expensive than just buying the light hanging kit from Bulk Reef supply. I recommend you go with Quantum Reef for local service, the Rapid LED or even BRS.
  7. Many of us use and like the Glass-Holes Overflow product. More of us like a discount. This just in: Enter coupon code 'boxingdayeve' for 10% off our super awesome overflow kits! Offer good through Boxing Day 2012. Be sure to apply coupon code 'boxingdayeve' at checkout. Happy Holidays Ross
  8. I, also, am a fan of Reef Angel. I think I saw your post on the forum talking about a very big install. I'd like to come see what you are doing as you get farther along. Thx Ross
  9. I'll take 25, 34, 38, and 42. Send me PM on pymt details.
  10. PM sent
  11. did your cable vendor change your outside IP address. use whatismyip.com from your pc to check. If different that what it used to be , yes.
  12. When I starting doing this two years ago or so I was referred to this guy: http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html , and learned a lot from him. I also watched a few things on youtube. Then I went out, cut my baffles the wrong size, got mad and now use a 40g breeder. Since that time I have ran into the guys at Aquatic Obsession who build a series of really nice custom sumps. Check them out.
  13. I was researching how to get my dad burn canisters off and ran up on this: http://reefcollege.com/reef-aquarium-forum/rodi-info-thread-(sticky-if-possible) He quotes here 4 parts waste to one part clean. I thought it a little lower, but not much.
  14. Why don't you buy a tank, a glass-holes.com overflow and drill it yourself. Many of us on here could help, if desired. That way you'd get what you want.
  15. He is a fish only kinda guy. I haven't selected any brand or model. I like the Avast stuff with Skimmate accessories, mainly because they are a sponsor plus I will be maintaining it and cannot clean out the bucket as often as if it were my tank. I've also heard good things about other skimmers so thanks for the advice. It is a relief to know that some skimmer (even smaller) is better than no skimmer.
  16. How does one size a skimmer based on total aquarium volume? I have a friend with a 300 gallon tank, no skimmer, and I want him to get one. How is this math calculated? Is it just gallons per hour thru the skimmer? What happens if the skimmer is smaller than would really be best? Is it just a function of dealing effectively with the skimmate? The man is not going to buy one of these behemoth, very expensive. models but needs something. Please advise. Thx
  17. I live in Gaithersburg, Why don't you come by sometime and see what I'm doing. PM me. I'm in town next week.
  18. I've seen Mike's tank...that thing is gorgeous! He had an internal overflow, tho. Didn't need anything extra.
  19. is the is the only way to clear free-floating algae? A friend of mine has a big tank with very green water but has no UV or skimmer on it. He also uses well water, has very bad water parameters, and only a few fish, but we are working on those items as we speak. Lastly. would it help and would the fish care if we just turned off and left off the lights? Would the algae die? Thx in advance..
  20. they have a big sale right now on that skimmer, not sure how long it runs. Looks to me to be built but you can get the kit for significantly cheaper. Is this for your 60? That Reef Octopus you have isn't doing it?
  21. Justin, this is really cool...just as soon see you build one for us, tho. Thx for sharing.
  22. what is the IPB app? Thx
  23. Why did you buy 2 gallons? That sounds like a load of that stuff. Is that the only way the sell it?
  24. Nope. I'd like about a 4 ft x 4 inch x 1\4 piece. Thx.
