  1. there are several of us around that will show you what we're doing. It is a little harder than "quite simple" but Lee (lnevo) has helped me repeatedly with my code and the support on the forum is phenomenal. The only limitation to the thing is your imagination and your willingness to learn and tinker. Come on in, the water is fine! Ross
  2. Water quality beats all. What you are paying for water can go back in the kitty. Take a look at the RD102 from Water General https://filterdirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=29 . An absolute steal at $135, includes all filters and everything, free shipping. Had mine three years and love it.
  3. the thing to keep in mind with controllers, any controllers, is to keep it real. Don't expect it jump out of the box and start running. Start small and get the device working on one or two events and then begin adding more functionality. For example, hook it up and start controlling your pumps and heaters, figure out how to do feeding mode...then add pH, maybe wireless. And go from there. The most important thought is not to get frustrated. For me, at least w ReefAngel, it is so easy to want to configure many different things immediately that it can be hard to figure out where a particular problem is coming from. So go slow and have fun. At least that's what I keep telling myself as to why I bought this tank. ;>
  4. As I remember this anemone is not easily moveable, yes?
  5. thx all, new question...do those skeletons serve any sort of "live rock surface area" for helpful bacteria in my tank? Ross
  6. I have several of these "things" in my tank but don't really know what they are are... Then I noticed a healthy frogspawn exhibiting a similar looking section that used to have beautiful tentacles Are these just dead frogspawn skeletons? If they are dead, I'll pull them out. Thx
  7. I, too, am thankful for WAMAS. I have learned much from listening, as well as participating. I am grateful for the folks I have brought into the club, most of which now have nicer tanks than me. While I am thankful for you all, I wanted to make a particular shout-out to Coral-Hind, and to Origami; both that keep answering my questions and in a lot of ways, giving me stuff. Thanks, WAMAS; you can be sure I'll be renewing Ross
  8. Apologize for the potential hi-jack but saw a mention of aiptasia-X for majano...does that work?
  9. I bought a filefish from Quantum, wrote them back that night and told them I thought that fish was almost dead! Talk about slow, that fish swims around my tank so slow even I think it's tired. It took a day or so but the aiptasia is gone. The fish is doing fine long as you don't expect him to get in a hurry!
  10. make it a kind of paste, thick enough to cover the beast but not too runny
  11. probably sea-fans... ever see any sort of little feathery protusions? These are normal and desired, just filter feeders
  12. yes, this grade is a little larger. You saw reference also in this thread to something called sugar-fine. BRS has pictures so you can compare.
  13. I use Aragonite Special Grade Arag-Alive! Live Reef Sand. It is usually about 35-40 locally for a 20 lb bag, cheaper online but shipping can kill you. There is a Bulk Reef Supply group buy starting soon I believe.
  14. what is the aeration test? take it out of the water?
  15. Me as well. I fished it out, all sad, then there it was! Yes, Squishie, Big Red says, "HI!"
  16. Came home from a trip and found what looked like a dead crab in the bottom of my tank. Looked like a shriveled up body, claws, everything. After I counted noses I then found my crab, in his shell, just as fine as wine.. Did he molt? I was scared then wondering if I should be pleasantly surprised. Thx in advance. Ross
  17. PVC, 90 degree fittings. egg crate, and cable ties
  18. You'd have to call them to be sure, but I'd think you are fine. Throw them in the frig now and move on.
  19. I'm new to this thread...what was the problem you are trying to solve?
  20. Thanks for all the advice. I stopped by Food Lion, got some shrimp, washed and chopped carefully and used a small stick to feed, Talk about one fat and sassy eel!
