Also in the tank I inherited was this gorgeous eel. You only see him at night when he comes out for food. Problem is when I throw fresh food in it begins to disintegrate and he swims right past it. What suggestions do you have? I even thought about a long forceps with a chunk of tuna (turkey?) on it. Thx

My kids say I'm cheap...I say I'm frugal. I have been testing and testing, and surely my nitrates aren't THAT high! Is there a life to these fairly-decent test kits? After getting my crazy, high results again tonite I tested with a newer kit I picked up and got amazingly lower results. Just thought I'd ask. I am going to test again. thx

Reefcleaners offers a snail only cleaner pak for your tank for $100 delivered. While that may sound like a lot of money it really isn't considering those snails will take very good care of your tank. I have bought from him many times and always been pleased.Course I also bought a boatload of snails from Quantum Aquaria at the sale this weekend and got great deal there as well.

100 gallons, approximately. Thanks for the article John, it was excellent. Quoting Farley, "Dosing vinegar is similar to dosing ethanol except that vodka has more carbon in it than vinegar. The ratio is about 8 times more carbon in 80 proof (40% by weight) vodka than vinegar (which is usually 5% organic by weight). For a conservative method one may use the same guidelines for dosing ethanol in the article below, except use 8 (eight) times as much vinegar as ethanol for the 40% ethanol directions:" This is how I calculated the 15ml. I plan on trying vinegar dosing to reduce nitrates. I have been reading Randy Farley, posts on here, etc. and wanted your opinion on a starting point. Seems like most folks suggest starting around 15ml a day, doubling every week until nitrates approach zero. Farley said on RC he hit 410ml before his corals got mad but that seems crazy. I am asking because none of the articles say, "Roscoe, just do this..." Your help appreciated and desired. Thx Roscoe

Wow! This tank has come a long way since I've seen it. I need to get by!!

one of my tanks has a black bottom and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do it again. It makes the tank extra dark and hard to see the inhabitants. Just my opinion.

what was in the bottle BEFORE you started cleaning?

if you don't already have rooms you might not be going? Anybody know other hotels?
