  1. Tagging along on this fascinating post. We have 5 chromis right now. Although we've had clowns lay eggs in the display tank in the past, the only fry we've ever had live was when Jon set up 4 gal plastic "tanks" for goby pairs. Once the eggs were laid, I think Jon removed the parents to another system. Early attempts did not fare well, but Jon was very successful just before he shipped overseas. I'm sure we'll try and breed again, would love to have success with chromis as well. Maureen

Patti, Was thinking about a 9 layer Mexican-style dip I make with tortilla chips, a spinach dip w/bread bowl, fruit salad, veggie tray with dip, or something for dessert if you'd like. Would love to help out, let me know once you get your arms around number of people coming and your menu, no hurry. Maureen

  9. Dbartco, waiting to hear back from you.......................
  10. When dryfitting the rock, protect the surface you're going to be stacking the rocks on. I used an old moving blanket under a clear shower curtain I saved the last time I replaced it. I didn't want the rocks to chip/break if they fell over, or damage the counter. I used a left over piece of PVC and wrapped the edge of the shower curtain around it, the other side went over the open back splash piece. Cloths pins were used to close up the sides, creating a well that all the excess water collected into. It was pretty much mess free and when we were done I threw the plastic out in the trash. The blanket was thick enough to act like sand in holding the rocks stable. I really enjoy the aquascaping part of the process.
  11. Thanks very much Sam. This installment of our tank thread is sort of like Chapter 1. Jon has more text and pictures he's working on putting together and I'm sure he'll continue to post to bring the story up to date. To answer your question, yes, there are corals and fish now in the display tank and more corals/frags in the 55 gallon, as well as fish in quarantine in hyposalinity. Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I think this tank set up will be the most amazing we've ever had.
  12. Hope there are a bunch of kids for the clown!!!!!!!
  13. Doug, Here's a picture of a large bubble coral we'd like to offer for the NADC tank, although it's not on the list. It's about 7" fully opened. We can bring it to the Frag Fest next week if you're interested. Jon and Maureen
  14. Bob, We have a 55g tank that we can donate if you think it would be beneficial for folks to practice drilling on a real tank. It is a different experience than drilling on a nice flat piece of glass that is easy to move around and not 3-D. The glass on this tank was 99% drilled (using a time consuming dremel) when stress on the remaining area to be removed caused it to snap out and crack the tank. As it is going to end up in the trash anyway, it would be nice to have it be useful as a training aid. And we can always share our lessons learned with members too........... (don't let the wife have the dremel after hours of working on the tank to finish the job with a large towel to protect the glass at the bottom.......)
  15. Gorgeous.
  16. I have to ask if you are a professional photographer as so many of your photos are exceptional. The bottom picture of the jelly fish belongs in a magazine. Or on a poster................ wow, just beautiful. Okay, after a 2nd look, more than just the bottom photo is worthy of publication.
  17. Jason, This project is awesome and we'll be tagging along. When the time is right I'm sure we can contribute a frag. Chip - I think you're wonderful................... or at the very least, a very kind man. Maureen
  18. My guess is micromussa as well, based on pictures from Dr. Mac's site. If tentacles come out that would make it an acan, correct?
  19. Jon, Thanks for posting this picture for me, it was a nice surprise to wake up to this morning! This Yuma is huge, almost 3" at its widest and although not quite as pink as in the picture (has more purple and teal undertones and redish striping) it is the most beautiful I've seen in person. And thanks to Sam and JM's encouragement, I own it now!
  20. Will the color come back as it recovers?
  21. Chip, How's the volunteer list for set up and tear down coming along? Maureen
  22. Glad to hear it worked out well for you Brian. And that there's a local store with hard to find plumbing parts, we usually have to order them and wait........... Good luck. Maureen
  23. Jamal, Read this thread Drs. Foster & Smith's NEW Reef Club Discount Program, FYI Only (started in April 2006) under "Member Discussion" for additional information on the process. Doesn't sound as if it worked too well then, let us know if it is working better now. Maureen
