Grandmaster Reefer (9/13)

  1. I finally colored these up after 2 years! Too bad I started with 2 polyps, 2 year ago, and still only have 2 polyps! I only had 6 when I fragged them up a couple months ago. These were the only ones to survive.
  2. Not really - the guys that take the time to do give back to the local community are the ones that deserve the credit. That is one part of WAMAS I really like. Just doing my part to help out. I tried to add some variety and color since I know that is what most non-reefers like to see.
  3. I threw in 5-6 frags today when Scott came by. I hope it adds some color to the tank.
  4. Doug, I have some I can donate. I'll see if the guy that is coming up tomorrow can take them with him. That and the books.
  5. I've found that putting mine in a rock that has a "hole" or is hollowed out for its foot, makes for a good home. I have had 4 different nem's and none of them have never took a walk-a-bout. I might just be lucky though. It seems like if they have their foot secured in a "hole" where they nothing can get to them, they stay put. Of course with low-med flow and good light. I also have had to cut them up ~ every 6 months or so. They seem pretty resilient, as I have only lost one. I'd be willing to bet it'll be fine once it finds a new home it likes. You could also make him a "home" in a rock and put it in there and see what happens. I'll have to get a picture one of these days of the rock I have for my nem' so people can see where mine likes it best. Good luck
  6. +1 on all of the above. It'll be fine. If it is possible to tilt it, I'd do that just to feel better, but it will do it on its own if it needs to. (as long as it was healthy to begin with)
  7. My DSB in my refugium is 6-7" and is made with oolite sand since it is smaller and packs tighter, which allows for less area for oxygen.
  8. Its not an april fools. Just a cool new clown.
  9. The tank is looking awesome! I would LOVE to have an 8ft tank. I love the longer run tanks so you can watch the fish really swim! I know what you mean about the pics and realizing the hair is a little thinner than you "think" - I still think I'm 20! I'll have to take a look at he site you listed for the black flex pvc. I'm the same way, if I know it is there and I'm not happy with it, I'll fix it. I like the look of a nice clean, finished looking setup. I painted my pvc with black krylon fusion just for that reason. Awesome job! Can you post some info on the "silent" drains your using.
  10. The return pump I have is setup so its only job is to "return" water. With that being said, I like to have ~500gph going through the sump skimmer section, then a ball valve for the fuge, which gets ~50gph or less through it. I plan on setting my new tank up the same way as my current one, since I am happy with the results/design thus far. I have a plenum that my return pump goes through to supply my reactors.
  11. Closed loops are more a thing of the past I would think. Especially if you already have vortecs. There is no drilling, no possible leaks, less power, more flow options, ease of maintainance, ect. I like the clean look of the vortecs vs. any other pump or closed loop out there. Although I will probably be using 2 vortecs and 2 tunze's on my new tank, just because the vortecs can't be angled and it is a 6ft tank. On a 4ft I would use two-three and be very happy with the flow. Especially with the options available on the ecosmart ones.
  12. Charlie - I think a lot of it depends on the amount you are willing to spend, and the desired "look" you are going after. Zygote - Doesn't it look kind of funny with them being more like spotlights? From the video you showed, the spotlight effect looked really pronounced and kind of awkward. I'm wondering if it looks that way in person, or if it is from being on video, or one or more of the lights being off.
