I integrated an electric shock system into the front panel when I did the build so they will only touch it once ROFL.

So we are slowly getting to where I want it.

So now I asked for the doors to open away from each other (center doors open towards the middle) and get rid of that support between the two doors if possible. And to see about the side doors and matching the height of the tank opening.

So here is the newest rendition.

These guys are morons, they only made it so the two middle doors open together. Not the set on the right and the set on the left. Hopefully today I can get the design nailed down.

It's may be too late but one thing I have seen with hinged tops is that after a while it doesn't close fully. It may be due to humidity and warping but I've seen older tops where it just didn't close flush. If you can, see about putting some hardware like a latch or catch for the hinged piece. This way it hopefully closes smoothly and flush with sides.

Just sent him the approval, wonder how long its going to take them to build it.

You have a contract right? Should have this in writing before you give them any payment.

Its all being covered by Belfor and the insurance company. So I dont have a contract per-say with them.

But when we first spoke about the cabinet, he said about 5 days build time. So we will see.

Just added the firt fish! 2 small ocellarus clowns and a royal gramma. The clowns are swimming all over and the royal gramma has found a hiding place at the top of the rocks.

You have fish in it already. That was fast.

Was about 3 weeks ago. I have been testing 0 ammonia for about a week now.

so the fish have been in for about 2 days now. No idea where the gramma is; he was hiding in the rockwork on day 1, but cant seem to find him now. Ammonia still at 0 (so dont think he kicked the bucket) and nitrates holding pretty steady.

The two clowns are eating like champs and probably loving having free reign on the tank right now.

So I need to start thinking more about my cleanup crew. Somehow I still have no algae in the tank, but am overfeeding the fish to help build the bacteria population and I imagine this should start an algae bloom at some point.

So should I go all snails and no hermits, or should I go hermits with just some nassareus to keep the sanbed aerated? Im not sure which way to go on this. What do you guys think

I have a mix, because I like watching crabs in the tank, however, I see lots of empty shells in the tank, which I am sure used to be snails.

I will likely transition to 100% snails in the future. There are snails that can do anything hermit crabs can do, and more. Certain ones clean the glass, the rocks, the sand, you name it. And they won't kill each other.

I do like watching hermits, and that is why I am torn on adding them or not.

If I dont, I will probably use a mix of:

turbo

nassaraus

cerith

nerite

Is there another type of snail I should be using?

Those are good ones. I like Astrea as well. Not a big fan of turbo snails because they knock frags over, but they are true workhorses.

Banded trochus

I love mine and highly recommend them. They went through hair algae when I had it. Their bodies are the same size as their shell, so they don't knock over frags like other turbos tend to.
