  1. if the output off of the tee is submerged or even partially submerged in water then that will put back pressure on the skimmer and cause it to overflow like that
  2. its like one of those pictures in the mall....stare long enough, see it you will
  3. im doing maintenance monday til 3.... plus they were looking for nice ogres, not mean ogres. EDIT: ROb why dont you lend some maintenance hours to move the tank, ya non skimmer using hater
  4. ive had the sclero get so big they dropped babies in my LPS/softy tank.... that was a year ago, and i still find babies, under the eggcrate. I ALSO FEED THE SYSTEM ALOT OF FATTY ACIDS!!! its very important to supplement feed if there is not enough naturally occurring plankton. I even like to saturation feed the tank with filter socks afterwards. I put like a whole packet of cyclopeeze in there through the intake of the return pump, run it for two hours and then put the socks on. if you have pods, they will love this and flourish. in turn this creates a stable flow of microfauna larvae that can serve as coral food. another thing to do to save some money on feeding is to thaw PE mysis, stir in some tank water, strain over COARSE net. feed the shrimp to your fish and save the "juice" in the fridge til night time and throw it in. Any corals with smal polyps(NPS,SPS) will go crazy over the fatty acids and the subsequent bacterio-plankton.... your LPS will love the fragmented shrimp pieces just floating into their bigger polyps.
  5. anybody that helps with this move can stop by the shop after the move and pick out a frag on the house. I referred this member to the boards to ask for help, I am sure that in time they will be a full WAMAS family, and will be able to put something back into the group. Sean
  6. actually they are pretty common....id say half the time i get the ones that are green with pink/red bulbs, the other half solid pink.
  7. sorry for your troubles Jan. There is no formula(only guidelines) as to which fish are more likely to be infected. if your having this big of a breakout I would highly recommend taking the fish out and treating them all. Possibly installing a UV on the display to kill some pree floating parasites. as far as a lesion, these lesions are most likely secondary infections caused by the parasites where they were attached... now that the sites are gone it leaves exposed tissue. From what ive read about your issues, I believe you most likely have several pathogens involved. When that happens you just have to go down the line with treatments. get rid of the parasites, if you see lesions and they are being bathed in an anti-parasitic then you can take the fish out for a nitrofurazone bath aka Furan2. in your copper tank, you can safely add Kanamycin Sulfate without any problems. the kanamycin works really well together with copper to prevent those secondary bacterial infections where the parasites were attached. HTH Sean
  8. what was it then, the suspense is killing me...
  9. +1 i get little tingles or shocks on my fresh cuts or cuticles(nailbiter)....Hey Rob, is that kind of low voltage negligable?
  10. shoooot...lifetime, regardless...I'm in. thats where I'll buy my next one. bowie, definately get the dremel 600 at least, the diamond wheel is great. unless you have big colonies that need to be cut, then the dremel should be fine. Sean
  11. see doug, only a feww days without your purse, ahem, I mean satchel...and youre making jokes!!! EDIT: thats really cool forrest, id be really curious to see what it looks like every couple of weeks. tagging along
  12. the API calcium test is terrible, I used it right in front of the API rep and he didn't seem surprised that it got very unclear and unreal results. needless to say i haven't seen him around since then, thank god. the API kH test is good and easy to use but it can be off sometimes. its a good idea to have a standard solution for validating new kits or verifying out of the norm results. Tom(origami) should chime in and make a sticky about test solution standards
  13. what corals did you end up with? some can/should be dipped in different things.
  14. the copper should take care of most of what they have, but the internal parasites may require prazi. if you get pure prazi powder(i can help with that) not the premixed stuff then you can run prazi and copper together( have done at least a thousand times). I would recommend using coppersafe or copper power(basically anything but cupramine) as its more stable and you dont have to do alot of testing, dosing, testing redosing etc. I really woudnt worry about FW dip with blue, especially if they are going right into copper...copper is mildly antifungal, and mildly antibacterial and should stop any any ectoparasite as well as secondary infections. Best of luck Sean
  15. tegula funebralis, black turbos snails for cyano also.
  16. i got some extra chalice colonies for fragging. what do you think doug
  17. 12-5 i dont have packaged pods, but my invert system is CRAWLING with amphipods. when you come in i'll show you their babies!
  18. i have actually found that the red variations have better survivability when compared to their green friends. could be as simple as irritaion, but just remember they rely on water movement to cirulate planktonic foods and to export tyhe waste they produce....in an aquapod, w/o circulation, it could be a problem. But then again there is the acclimation, if it was added less than 4-5days ago it could still be adjusting.
  19. did you say cake?!
  20. i hate inline meters
  21. if its thin film comp(TFC) it works best at 55-65 PSI most max at 125 psi. Sean
  22. fwiw i use 100 gpd mems and go from 100+ppm to 2-4 ppm before the DI. I have four of them in parallel, as compared to my old 650 which only does get 80-90% justto mske sure they sre working, each 100 gpd membrane has its own di chamber with colorr cchange resin. I know theyre working because i check the water before and after the membrane. Whats your line pressure? o and BTW, in a pinch i have used a speed fitting ballvalve on the waste line to pressure the membrane to 60, but you need to have a pressure gauge b/c you be manually tuning the back pressure.
  23. holding out on the corals i see u emeffer!
  24. my landlord is the company that just made a fortune breaking up chevy chase into capital one.... do they care whether i can afford rent increases? nope! BTW we really do appreciate the people that keep us up, and make it worth while
