You may have an issue with micro-bubbles from your skimmer output entering the return pump. Depending on your skimmer size/type, you may want to keep it in the sump, and not have to worry about potential leaks, overflows, etc.

Thanks for the responses. I did hear a loud 'hammer' sound when I first turned the water on, but this sound is a bit different. It literally sounds like snoring... I will let it sit for couple days and hope the air works itself out. If not I'll try taking the ASOV apart and see how it works.

I just replaced all my RO/DI pre filters as well as my RO membrane. Now I'm hearing the ASOV (auto shut off valve) making a loud vibrating sound every 9 seconds or so when the RO output valve is closed. Is the ASOV bad or is it just air purging from the system? I made sure that the valve is connected correctly with in/out designation. It's been going like this for at least 2 hrs after flushing the membrane for at least 1 hr.
Thanks

A fish the size of a firefish should not crash your 30g tank. I would leave it alone and hope for the best. The only safe way to get your firefish out is to remove the rocks and then use the net. (good luck with that...) Also, shining a flashlight could make the eye appear white because of the reflection - not a good way to judge an infection.

...speaking of ULM... I think it's time to form a new dedicated forum on WAMAS - Underground Reefoholic Upgrade Club (URUC) where we can share tips on how to keep ULM from finding out how much time and $$ we're really spending on our hobby.
Interesting coloring... I still prefer the standard clowns with nice regular patterns. Am I the only one? I understand how rare these fish are and that the price is determined by the supply - I just don't get the demand part. For $1k you can buy a lot of other fish...

I tend to agree, but then again in the ocean reef environment there are all kinds of currents and temperature thermoclines and the fish/corals seem to be doing ok. As long as the temp is between 74-80 you should be fine. I wouldn't try to raise the temp unless it drops below 75.

Thanks for the tips. I have thought about making the top edge closer. Ithink I'd like to be at around 0.5"... I'm not going with stand pipes as I'm trying to keep it simple. This tank will be in my basement/laundry room just to grow some frags for my future main display tank.

I agree 100% and this was the premise for my concept as well... of course you're limited to medium to large fish that are strong enough to swim back up...
Also, snails will constantly go over the edge - so this may be the only consideration for using egg-crate.
Here are my designs I presented to Jeff: (keep in mind that this will be a frag-tank with little or no fish nor snails)

Nice set-up. I designed a similar frag tank that I'm hoping NAGA will get to one day. Any thoughts on the overflow? (sound, effectiveness, issues)...
Can't wait to see it stocked!

Take a look at this amazing set-up... I'm always curious what fellow reefers are doing in Europe. (this one is in Poland - where I come from)

Glad you're enjoying that galaxea... And yes, be carefull where you place it. It will sting anything that is closer than 2-3" from it. I kept it in the corner by the overflow, to make it even harder for it to extend its sweepers against the current.
