  1. Thanks for the responses! I ordered from Reeftopia. Good point Charlie-I ordered a lot less hermits. --Pam
  2. Thanks Chip! Nope-never will leave....Wamas is like a lifeline Just busy etc... --Pam
  3. Hi! In the past I have gotten my cleaner crews from Aquatic Island, but now I can't seem to find them. Perhaps they are having issues :( I really need to order several red tip hermits and even more nsarr. snails. Any ideas where I can get some at a really good price? Do these numbers sound right? I read that you should have 1 hermit per gallon and 1-3 snails per gallon. I think I will go with a little less but it looks like I need about 300 snails and 250 hermits....so I need a really good price. Thanks for your advice! --Pam
  4. I calibrated both of my refractometers last night (blue and black handles) using the PinPoint calibrating fluid and alas! they were both reading high. After calibration my tank water is now at 1.021... Since it's probably always been running this low with no ill effects, should I even try to raise it? (saves me $$ on salt) -- Rob
  5. Sorry to hear. Did you ever do a partial water change since the other fish death? I'm still guessing that the water chemistry is at fault. -- Rob
  6. Vey true, and I was thinking the same thing when I saw the mention of Cu, but I think in his case, the fish was already eating. I've lost a yellow tang a long time ago following Cu treatment, but the the fish never started eating again. Besides I think BRK uses a very low - prophylactic (here's that word again Steve) dosage of Cu in their q tanks. -- Rob
  7. Actually, I think he thought I was going to feed him. I lift the covers off to feed the fish and as soon as I do, the Triggers are always the first in line-I guess he didn't want to be late. He is still fine and swimming around. There is plenty of live rock and crevices for him (and all of the fish to hide). He has quite a few places he likes to tuck himself into usually-that is why I found the bottom of the tank to be such a wierd place to pick to nap. --Pam
  8. PBT's are usually first to go if the water parameters are starting to decline. I would check water params and do a prophylactic water change. How long did you have him? Where did you purchase him from? Did you quarantine him? -- Rob
  9. Yeah, that was my guess too. I told Pam that he was probably 'resting' after a rough night... I'll go over there and do a 10% water change just in case. -- Rob
  10. Wouldn't the skimmer provide sufficient oxygenation? Also there is a refugium on a reverse light cycle. Does anyone here regularly test for dissolved oxygen? -- Rob
  11. This morning Pam noticed some odd behavior with her Blue Throat trigger in her 260g reef. Anyone has any clues what he's up to? "Last night my male BT Trigger seemed to be absolutely fine and eating. This morning (around 9am) he was lying on his side with his tail slightly curved up (like a dead fish). He was staying still not moving anything except for his eyes (which were following me). He was so pathetic looking :( He is usually one of the first fish to be active in the tank each day. I watched him but he did not do anything. He was not even tucked into a crevice. He was just lying on the substrate. Two hours later he was still on the bottom of the tank. I checked water parameters which all seem to be ok. Finally once I moved the covers off of the tank, he started swimming around the tank in a strange way. He always swims in weird fish patterns (compared to other fish I have) so I don
  12. I agree with the comment above. Three tangs in a 90 gal tank is a bit crowded. But three Zebrasoma tangs in the same 90-gal tank is not a good prospect for the future. The yellow tang may currently show the most aggression since he's the most established tang, but eventually your purple tang will be the most aggressvie one. I would keep the purple (my fav Zebrasoma tang) and perhaps add a differnt tang - Kole perhaps? - one that doesn't grow too terribly big. -- Rob
  13. Hey Snapper, I was kinda kidding when I went along Howard's Goby/shrimp theory. Here's the chronology: Got the fish from BRK about 5 months ago. Healthy as a fish could be. Active grazer, ate pretty much anything I threw in there. (mostly frozen mix with occasional supplement of flake and live brine) The tank has been established for about 3 years. No changes to set-up or eating schedule in months... No major water changes. Actually due for a water change... This was definitely not a sick fish. I will post sonme pics shortly. The only thing I can think of... the tank has been running a bit hot lately - 82-83 for the last week or so. I just put a new fan over the sump. -- Rob
  14. Interesting theory. I did see him out last night. I haven't seen him in quite a while, so it is kinda strange that he would pop-up right after the incident... But then again, I have noticed an interesting behaviour, that everytime he would pop his head out, the Kole would chase him back into his cave. So I guess he must have finally conspired with the pistol shrimp, and an assasination transpired. :( -- Rob
  15. Last night I glanced at my tank and saw crabs devouring what looked like remains of a dead fish. Whoa! that was my Kole Tang! He was active and happy and healthy and eating as recently as the night before. I checked water params - Temp 82, pH 8.3, sg 1.023, Ca 405, Alk 6.5 - I don't usually test for ammonia so I don't have a test. I'll steal my gf's tests and repeat the tests tonight. I'm a bit puzzled why would a fish drop in less than 24 hrs without any signs of disease. Ever since I added Majestic Angel I've had 3 unexplained casualties (Coral Beauty dissapeared few days later, Spotted Mandarin died a month later, and now this). My other inhabitants are Blue Hippo Tang, pair of False Percs, Royal Gramma, Watchman Goby. I'm thinking about installing a 24/7 surveilance webcam on my tank... Could a pistol shrimp shot him to death? -- Rob :(
  16. count me in for 5gal of 'cycled' water. -- Rob
  17. Most likely the bottom is tempered and the side panels are not. But that's just my guess. I would take Dan's advice and have it checked by a pro. -- Rob PS. a girl who gives you a tank as a present is ok in my book...

I agree. Wally's has improved in the past few months. It's interesting how the negative comments are coming from someone too cheap to pay a $20 WAMAS membership... -- Rob
  20. I got a replacement inverter from Xantrex. Worked for 30 min and as soon as I switched over to main power it died. Same symptom as the previous 2... At this point I'm done with this brand of inverter. Does anyone know another one that has the same fan-off feauture when there is no load? I think that running the fan on continously will shorten its life. -- Rob
  21. I think I've heard of Wetpets Inc... They set-up Pam's tank... (could it be?) -- Rob
  22. Your lamp looks really thin... Are you feeding it Nori or the flake food? -- Rob
  23. How much air exactly do these push? Are they loud? -- Rob
  24. Hi Rebecca! Glad to hear your Triggers are doing well! No, I have never seen them do this kind of thing. They do get along great and I have never seen any kind of aggression in either of them, but they don't seem to dance. Now that the territorial Tomato Clowns are out of the tank, even both pairs of Firefish are swimming around and eating right along side with the Triggers (and they are huge!). Rob is right-the male does do flips and swim upside down . It is a lot of fun to watch them. -Pam
