  1. Welcome fellow Hokie!
  2. That's a good one! Now how much gas did you burn? --Rob
  3. I don't think you'll find a generator that can be used indoors (even balcony). Your best bet is to buy a Marine Deep Cycle battery and have it on stand by when the trouble hits. For under $100 you'll have hours of protection against power hits. --Rob
  4. Yesterday was the first time my battery back-up plan was put into action. Lost power for a total of 6 hrs from 3 to 9pm. My on-line UPS kept things running for 30 min while I had time to get my DeepCycle Marine battery brought in from the garage and hooked up to the inverter. I only kept one MAG9.5 running (main return pump) and it lasted 5.5 hrs without any problems. I'm guessing the trick is to have a 2nd DeepCycle battery on standby so this way you can have a continuous coverage. (Assuming you have a buddy near by with power, where you can recharge the other battery). -- Rob
  5. Does anyone have a spare kangaroo pump set (tubing) I could buy/borrow? I ordered some new sets but they're not gonna arrive for a couple of days. I'm leaving town tonight for Xmas and need to dose RO water while I'm away... Thanks for your help! --Rob
  6. Nah, I don't bid on corals on eBay. It would just get covered with hair algae in my tank and die anyway. I really need to do something about this issue. --Rob
  7. Blennies are cool. I just got a Lawnmower Blenny and he's the funniest thing to watch. Hopefully he'll get started taking care of my hair algae infestation. So far he's still adjusting to the new digs. Great pics! Keep them coming... --Rob
  8. Yea - it was great! Best vacation I've had all my life. Looking forward to the next meeting. --Rob

  11. Chris, Didn't you just go bare-bottom? Or are you building a sand-box for your kid? --Rob
  12. Today was a bad day - really windy and cloudy. But normally the water is a balmy 27-28C... (low to mid 80's) --Rob PS. Unbelievable - the cheapest Spanish red wine starts at
  13. True. In my case I had a slow leak in the overflow tube that was dripping and getting absorbed by the carpet under my tank. I always kept my dosing to keep up what I thought was evaporation. Turns out I was loosing water drop by drop and I was replenishing it with R/O water. Once I noticed the leak and replaced the tube, my salinity has been stable. --Rob
  14. You guys are really funny! Good thing I didn't buy that case of Mallorcan wine for JM... --Rob
  15. Not this time. Need to invest in an underwater set-up before the next trip. Have lots of pictures of Mallorca though! --Rob
  16. Hello everyone... It's been a while since I posted - been busy with life I guess. As I'm currently honeymooning in Mallorca - I wanted to write few words about the local marine life here. Just got back from snorkeling all day and while the conditions are perfect the marine life is quite boring. I've only seen damsels, cardinal fish, and some sort of bream fish. The highlight was seeing a medium size octopus, and few large wrasses. On the seaweed covered rocks however, it's easy to spot blennies hanging on for dear life in the surf. It's pretty cool looking actually as it is quite amazing that they can hang on in a strong current. I have been to 3 different areas of the south and north-western part of the island, and so far have not seen any coral reefs. Today we were around Island of Dragonera and on Saturday we're planning to drive down to a marine reserve at El Toro which may provide some different variety of sea life. Big thanks to JM for watching over my tank while I'm here. I owe you big time. Warmest Regards from Mallorca!!! --Rob
  17. Anyone locally has a 24" T5 bulb I could test my fixture with? My refugium light died and I'm suspecting that the ballast might be the culprit as the bulb is not even trying to light-up. It's a Current Nova T5 fixture that's only about 1 yr old so, I'm assuming it's not the bulb. I tried HD but they only have 21" T5 grow bulbs. I'd like to know for sure so that I can either order the bulb or a new fixture. Thanks! --Rob
  18. PM sent! Thanks again Johnny. --Rob
