  1. So what if I leave the white lights on 7 x 24 ?
  2. I leave the moon lights in my 156 Reef on till about 11pm each night. I believe fishes need some good old "dark" time and rest. I just set up a frag tank and I was wondering if I should leave the moon light on all night. Would it not help it grow more with longer exposure to light ?
  3. Let me first say that this will not work for me as I am too lazy. I read somewhere that Aiptasia will not survive if you have totally pristine water conditions. Does anyone here have such water and still have Aiptasia ? Oh, Salty underground has a pretty good summary on Aiptasia -> http://www.saltyunderground.com/pages.php?pID=11
  4. I know this is not exactly what you are talking about but ......

  6. Would this be covered by Oceanic's lifetime warranty ?
  7. Not using a skimmer or filter, how often and how much to you change the water ?
  8. I have decided to get Red Sea for this reason since besides being lazy I am also cheap.
  9. Don't know if it applies but I have embarrassingly high Nitrates ( well over 20 ) and my BTAs are thriving in it. I am always trying to get rid my constantly splitting BTAs. I never feed my BTAs.
  10. Why do you prefer it to the Salifert ? Is it easier to use ? Like not as many steps to do .... I am lazy ...
  11. I have the Salifert for Nitrate and I thought I have the Salifert for Nitrate and I thought differentiating the colors was a pain ... all those different shades of pink. You mean it is worse with the combo kits ?
  12. Is it worth the extra bucks to use Salfert individual test kits versus the Combo test kits like Red Sea ? Which is the best combo test kits. The large difference in prices makes you ponder the "you get what you pay for" ...
  13. I did put some small LF around where it was to make it feel hidden but it did not help.... it now sleeps on the other side of the rainbow bridge
  14. Does a pistol shrimp attack Jawfishes ? I don't have crabs or Mantis, not that I know of. Would they not have attacked my Shrimp Goby that is just slightly longer than the Jawfish ?
  15. Will this setup create enough for water flow in a frag tank ?
  16. What do you mean by "climb in and can't get out" ?

  18. Looks like I am not destined to have a Jaw fish. That guy I got yesterday appears to have got in to a fight with someone over night. It is now at the corner of the tank with what appears to be a pectoral fin that has been bitten off. I am 90% positive that it was not in this condition when I got it at Marine scene. I would have noticed it when I was acclimating it. The suspects would include my Maroon Clown -> the usual suspect, and maybe my pistol shrimp and goby -> maybe the Jawfish ventured into their network of barrows. Do you think it might still make it ? My wife's going to all me a Jawfish murderer, again, when she wakes up.

  22. I love Jawfishes too but I don't seem to be able to get one to survive. I have a 156 with a deep sand bed with LF sitting on the tank bottom so as not to cave in on borrowers like a jawfish. Killed 2 over the last five years. The last one even made a home before it too died after about 5 days. All other fishes are fine. Where do you guys get your Jaw fish from ? Do you QT a Jawfish or is that too much stress on it ?
  23. All clowns are born male. When they pair up, one of them changes sex and become a female. I had one and then added a smaller one, they paired up nicely, I believe the bigger one is the female. It has been about 5 years and the male has stayed almost the same size, about half that of the female. Both are black Ocellaris.
  24. With a hang on back filter, would a pump still be necessary in such a small tank for flow ? I have a old dual flow hang on back filter, over kill for a 10G but that should create a decent flow.
  25. Well, the primary idea here is NOT to share the water with the main system. My primary system has a nitrate problem, always 25 to 75 ppm, so I've not been able to keep more sensitive corals, just softies. I would also like to use it as a QT for small fishes. Does any one have a frag tank with just water changes for maintenance ?
