  1. I had that barnacle from a frag from last year's FF. It is still alive, really cool.
  2. My Toby Puffer cleaned out my bubble algea.
  3. I had a massive Aiptasia problem. My Klein Butterfly cleared out all the Aiptasia but never touched the mushrooms or any corals.
  4. I too have the very some problem, High nitrates ( almost identical to yours ) but SPS are ok. Is high nitrates = bad SPS a myth ? If I remember correctly, I think Paul up north has nitrates in the 30ppms and his SPS are not suffering.
  5. I had a rather bad bubble algae in my 55G FOWLR. Since there was a Lion, I could not add a Mithrix crab. About a month ago I added a Puffer, now all my bubble algae is gone ! While I see the puffer pick at the LR constantly, I never actually saw it pick at a bubble algae. Did my puffer eat all the bubble algae ? Has anyone else with a puffer experience this ?
  6. I started dosing Kalk with my ATO a few months back. I have a very small pump in my ATO to stir the top off water. I have a 160(DT) + 40(Sump) G system. The ATO is about 15 G. The way I see it, so long as I don't have too saturated a mix of Kalk in my ATO, there should not be any risk of over dosing. I have always wondered how much Kalk to add to the ATO. I will be measuring the PH of my ATO when I get home. Is the 12.45 PH the max safe level ? Would this vary with the size of the overall system ?
  7. I have only heard of Cheato for nitrate. Heard somewhere that my problem with keep Cheato alive has to do with my phosphate been too high -> that would be contradictory to using it to control phosphate. I think I have enough light with one PC bulb, the typical ones you get at HD for home use.. It is in a concave fixture so light is concentrated on it.
  8. Light is a single Compact fluorescent bulb. It had been working fine with my mangrove.
  9. Yep, folks are busy trimming out their cheato but I have trouble keeping them alive ! My Nitrate if around 30 to 50 ppm but I am having a har time keeping cheato alive. My latest attempt is as show below. Bleaching ? Any idea why ? In 40G sump, 156G reef All live stock is doing great, even have some SPS even though I am told they should not be alive in 30ppm Nitrate, Oh, test kit is correct, shows 0 in frag tank.

  14. Let me know if you want a BTA, as you can see, I have more than I need
  15. What about at the beach ? I go to Bethany Beach a lot. Will I be able to get it there ? There is also the Assawoman Bay and Indian River Bay.
  16. A little over a week or so, some times they disappear in less than a week.
  17. color and wave - both are what the eggs of my clowns look like. The other thing to look for, at least in my case, is that the male clown is always near it, like it is guarding them. Mine get to the point where you can see the 2 little eyes. They then all disappear over night. I only have the pair of clowns in the nana so looks like he was just guarding his food !
  18. I bought this sand shifter a few weeks back. Does any one know what it is ? It is about 3 inches long. Almost never seen it again. Almost always in the sand bed.

    Konch ?
  20. Any one near Fair Lakes want buy stuff to make up $175 => free shipping ? Do you think it might not be a good idea to buy test kits to keep as the expiration date may not be too far away ?
  21. Elephant were "free", they came from other zoos that closed their exhibit. What we really need is a sponsor for the only "aquarium" in the nation's capital. We may be the only developed country who's capital does not have an aquarium. The invertebrate exhibition was the closest thing to an aquarium after the one under Commerce closed. Sat is the last day for the public. Any chance of having a WAMAS social on Sunday ? Maybe some of us have friends in high places, we can invite them as potential sponsors to stop this closing. 22. Just got my Fonz email informing members about this, about an hour ago. Total surprise. I just broke this news to my 15 year old who was looking forward to being a summer intern there when she turns 16. She had been counting the days since Tammy gave her a behind the scenes tour, when she was 5. Here's the press release -> http://nationalzoo.si.edu/publications/pressmaterials/pressreleases/press-release.cfm?id=2649 This part bugs me " ....... The annual operating cost for the Invertebrate Exhibit is $1 million. The exhibit currently needs an estimated $5 million in upgrades to equipment, life-support systems, building infrastructure and exhibit interpretation.... " We are closing the only invert exhibit in the National's Capital because of 1 million ? Fairfax county school's annual budget is 2.6 Billion ! A few years ago, the Farm exhibit was slated for closure before State Farm came to the rescue at the last minute. So... anyone got a million or 5 to spare ? Other wise I guess most of the live stock will probably end up in Baltimore's National Aquarium.
  23. Ever since I read that Hale on Tangs can be prevented with by feeding a variety of food, I try to feed as many different types as possible. The Hale on my sail fin seems to be better, certainly stop getting worse. Powder blue is Hale free. I use new spectrum pellets, reef flakes; freeze dried phytoplankton, krill and tuberflex worms. When I can get them, live blood worms. Recently got a fighting conch, wondering what I should feed it, if at all. Oh, I do occasionally feed my maroon clown fresh bood from my finger [emoji2] Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
  24. Now I am wondering if the fighting conch in my 156G is a bad idea. That has a DSB and this coach is about 3 inches big. It often disappears in my 6 inch DSB.
  25. I believe my 16G nano is now ready for new life. It crashed over a month ago. This is what it looks like today. Looks like the LR survived the crash since this tank has been supporting the BTAs for 2 weeks now. The only other life in it is a crab and turbo snail. I will be picking up a pair of Davinci clowns I bought from IC tomorrow. Not sure what to do with the sand bed. Thinking of leaving it bare bottom but I am thinking of also adding a Jawfish if I have a Deep Sand bed, I assume these 3 fish will not over load a 16G, right ? If I don't have a DSB would an inch sand bed be purely cosmetic and not have any real biological benefit ?
