No, it is time to Ban Maroon Clowns like they do the pit bull in MD
-
Well, I tried turning all the lights on and I have 2 a-holes ..... the powder no longer bothers it though. Here's hoping to only have 1 this evening.

It is from Tonga. Got it from BRK. Johnny may be able to get another for you if you are interested. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

So we all have heard of stories how hardy a maroon clown is, I remember reading some one say that her tank had a short circuit that even gave her a mild electric shock, killing everything thing but the maroon. My maroon survived a tank fire that was extinguished by a fire extinguisher shot into the tank to put out the fire. My black ocellaris jumped out after trying to bite my hand, missed and fell about 4 feet to the hardwood floor are survived, then a few days later survived a tank crash where the temp got to 97. That clown is over 10 years old. While I don't expect the same type of torture, as mentioned above, but are designer clowns just as hardy as "normal" clowns ? Are there certain hybrids less hardy and require more care ?

That's what I did before leaving for work this morning. I turned off the front half of the lights. Seems to have helped. The coral beauty is now swimming out in the open all the time, darting from one end to the other, kind of like what he was doing at BRK. Only my maroon tries to harass it now and then but it never get closer than an inch to it since the coral beauty is fast! The flame and power blue seems to have lost interest in it. Not at all a problem as the maroon does that to other fishes every now and then, being a typical maroon. It is not feeding but it was taking pellets at BRK so it would appear to have taken to feed out of the "wild". Took some freeze dried phytoplankton but spit it out. Not too concern with feeding since it has only been about 24 hrs since it's introduction. Question is, how long should I keep half my lights off without harming the corals ? Does it look like I am past the "issues" with my coral beauty ?

The pic you have kind of looks like what mine looked like when some water got to it, causing a short circuit. Could the plug have been loose and somehow water from the dehumidifier got to it ? In which case you might want to check that the dehumidifier does not have a leak. Mine cased a tank crash, every thing got fried. Came back from vacation to a very smelly house !

For those you have designer clowns, can you provide an idea of prices and where you would purchase them ?
-
OK, I got out to BRK to get this guy before one of these WAMAS people get it at the BRK social this weekend when I will be out of town ! That's the good news ! Bad news is that my flame, maroon and powder blue is giving this guy a hard time. But as Dave pointed out, my 156 does give it places to hide. I also put in that Carmelo Rock Barnacle I recently purchased. I figured that this is a new item that none of the current inhabitants have "claimed" That worked. see this -> Now the question is how long should I let this poor guy suffer in this 156 before moving him to my 55 FOWLR where there will be peace since only a yellow tang, clown and toby puffer are in it; all very passive.

I have am thinking of adding a coral beauty to my 156G that already has a well established flame angel. The coral is about half an inch to an inch larger than the flame. Is this too much of a risk ? I do have a 55 FOWLR to put the Coral if they WWIII breaks out in the 156. Oh, the other hand, I would probably have a hard time catching the Coral in the 156.

It has been 12 days since I clean out this tank so here's an updated pic taken today. Looks like the Rock did not "die". I was caught up in IncCoral's sale and bought a sponge crab just to discover what a pest it is so I put it in the tank. It's still very much alive. I am kind of surprised by the amount of cyno I now get since the bio load is so low. I only put a few pellets to feed that crab every 3 or 4 days. Oh, anyone with a FOWLR that wants a free crab ? As for the brand of the heater, it was a titianum one, don't remember the brand since I tossed it without checking.

My tanks are in the basement which is pretty cool. The heater light comes on during winter so I guess it is needed.

Semi circular tank, 20" wide, 16" high and 9 to 13" deep. All Glass tank, not sure on thickness. Has a Aqua C Remora hang on back filter. Need something that I can feed with an auto as I make frequent short trips out of town. So fishes needing live or hand fed food would not do. That kind of rules our seahorses or pipe fish, right ? The National Auqa in Baltimore has a Jawfish exhibit which was a rather small tank, maybe a 20 G, that why I was wondering it I could do that. Just concerned about a DSB in a small tank.

I am looking for suggestions for what to do with my 16G tank after a tank crash. Here's a pic of what it now looks like. I was thinking of a Jaw fish only setup but was not sure if a deep sand bed is a good idea for such a small tank.
-
I did empty and clean the entire tank yesterday till it was bone dry. Brushed off all dead tissue of BTA from the LR. It now has 100% new RODI water.

On Wednesday, a faulty heater crashed my 16G. The temp was 97 when I got home, all BTAs and lobster dead, 2 clowns lying on their sides. Luckily both clowns survived when I transferred them to another tank. Yesterday, I cleaned out the entire tank, emptied entire sand bed and removed and rinsed the all the Live Rock. The before and after pics kind of gives you the idea of how much died. Before After ( now ) Now I am wondering if my live rock is alive or dead. If it got “killed” by the 97 degrees temp, will this tank now go through a cycle like t new tank ? Nitrates tested a 0 after 24 hours. But since it has been years since I started a new tank, I don’t even have and ammonia or nitrite test kit. Is this new set up ready for new life ?

Which controller is most common in WAMAS, Apex ?
-
So I fried my 16G nano with a heater as a result of a power failure, etc.... long story... Tank temp was about 97 when I got home, had a dead lobster and my pair of clowns were lying on their sides, all BTAs were dead. Thankfully, when I transferred the two clowns (had for 10years) to my aggressive tank, they recovered. Oh, I could do that since that aggressive tank is no longer aggressive since the Lion died earlier this week and the eel when carpet surfing the day after the lion died. Maybe the eel when to look for the Lion, guess he ended up finding it on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Yes, it has not been a good "fish" week, ran out of burial spots in my back yard fish cemetery. So I do have a 55 and a 156 left. I have finally decided to invest in a controller that would have warned me about the raising temp while I was at work. I have the general idea on what a controller does and how an initial investment of about $200 can turn into $2000 or more. Is it possible to get one controller that can control both on my tanks at simultaneously ? They are next to each other. Appreciate all the controller advice I can get.

Power's back. Good to know that it should be fine for a few hours, especially when my tank don't have a heavy load.
-
Just found out that I've lost power at home. How long can fishes go with no aeration, i.e. oxygen ? The only good news is that my tanks never get too hot in the basement, even on a hot day like today. I do have a generator but I am in DC. Wondering if I need to go home early.
