With Summer in full swing, I was wondering if it would be feasible to use the WAMAS forum to set up what I would call a "Vacation help exchange". Have members who live near each other keep an eye on another's tank while they are away. For instance, I have my neighbor keep an eye on my tank while I will be away for 3 weeks. They will be topping off the auto off and feeding the fishes in the aggressive tank with frozen food. The other fishes are on an auto feeder. However, if there was an emergency, I don't think they would be able to handle it, it would be nice to have a WAMAS member on stand by for such situations. Any thoughts ? We have a map of members. can we tweek that to include members interested in this ?

Yep ! Sure looks like a barnacle. Thanks for the video. Is it going to continue living in this frag ? I think it is kind of cool, even though you need a magnigying glass to see it, so I hope it survives. You would think that if it survived the dip it should be pretty hardy. .

That's why I am putting what ever I collect in condoms
-
Does anyone know what it is ? It survived the 15mins dip mentioned at today's meet. See this video -> 100% 100%

I would be interested too. How would you do it ? Any special equiptment ?

thanks guys, looks like I'll spend the big bucks.

I've been using the good old Mag-Float for the longest time. Recently I noticed that there is a very thin glaze on my Oceanic Starphire glass. The only way I could clean that was using brute force with a Kent scraper. I understand that there are some stronger magnets cleaner out there that can cost quite a bit. Are these worth the extra bucks ? If I had been using one of these consistently, would I have avoided over an hour of hard labor and an almost sprained wrist ? What do you think is the best ?

Yep, BRK is the place to get huge Mandarins. Johnny has a sypplier that can get him jumbo ones, even bigger that what I got.
-
Why do you prefer that it will not reproduce ? Won't that be better ?
-
It's in my 156. I don't have any thing that might eat pods other than may be the Hawk fish ? Don't see it pecking at the LR though.
-
So I picked up a Mandarin at BRK’s social yesterday. This Mandarin started picking at the LR immediately and has been doing so continuously since. Can’t tell if it is picking at pods, can you see pods or are they too small to see for one with poor eyesight ? Does a mature tank always have pods ? My tank is 5 years old but I was wondering if I should be buying “pods in a bottle” to augment the supply of pods. Then pour this bottle of pod into the fudge where the cheato is. I don’t like to add “anything in a bottle” if I can help it.

Any little kids around that may have thrown a penny or two in the tank ? -> copper contamination Summer time, I get nervous when relatives visit with little kids, e.g. hide the fish food...... -
I read somewhere that it is better to feed sea based veggies. My fishes always gobble up the dried sea weed I feed them.

My reef has tangs and hermits that eat algea, peppermint and butterfly that eats aptisias. I have a Fuzzy Lion and an Eel in my 55G. They will have shrimp for food and hermits may choke the Lion. I have two urchins and that has helped with the algea issue to a certain extend. They don't touch the hair algea though. What should I do to control algea and other pests. ? Would a sea hare become food ?

I use a magnetic clip. Like it because it floats to the top and is easy to remove and attach. To stop my Tangs from ripping the nori from the clip, I fold it in many times before cliping it. So u end up with like a 1/2 inch wide nori.

Did you see the ....... "Poisonous When Stressed or Dies" part ? It may cost a lot more than $4000 ! I can see it now .... new post ..... Major tank crash..... My $4000 fish died and now so did my Gem tang and ..... !!

Noticed this when I first got a huge LR, about 10lbs. It has grown about 30% in 3 weeks. Some kind of sponge ? If so I assume it is not harmful ?

Let's not forget the Aiptasia eating Berghia Nudibranch

ATO Stopped Working Properly = Flooded Basement

I too have a JBJ, no problem so far but I don't trust it, especially after reading all this post bashing the JBJ. This is why I make sure there is enough extra room in my 40 G sump for all the water in the reserviour tank. -
I have had a few Lions, here my current fuzzy -> I feed it frozen Krill and Silver sides but I prefers the Krill. It is not advisable to feed it non marine live food such as ghost shrimp. I have never fed my any live food. It has almost double in size with since I got it in January. I strongly suggest that you get the LFS show you that it is feeding before buying it. Getting it to feed on frozen food is usually a problem for many new Lions. As mentioned by others, be careful of water quality since it is a "dirty" fish. Also be careful of what else you put in with it, I follow the rule -> if it fits in it's mouth, it will try to eat it , even if it chokes and dies doing so !

I too had a Mandarin die after a few weeks in my 5 year old reef. While I don't think it was lack of pod, given the age of the tank, I am hesitant on getting another until I am confident on it's food source. Anyone tried to feed their Mandarin with baby brine shrimp ? The type you buy the eggs and hatch at home ? What about live blood worms ?
-
I just got some black worms from Centreville Aqua. My fishes love it; the non herbivors that is. My " eat everything" power blue, that loves brine shrimp, quickly tried it but split it out immediately. The others all love it. Like Paul say, no worm had a chance to get to the substrate. Now the question is how to keep the rest of the worms alive for a few days. I currently have them laid out on a dinner plate. Was told not to add too much water or they would drown.

I am thinking of adding an eel too, snowflake. How deep of a sand bed is recommended ? I only have about an inch of sand so the rocks are pretty much on the glass.

Maybe we should see if we can get RAW to hold a future workshop in the Washington area. They last held it in our area at the Baltimore Aqua in 1995. Maybe they can hold it at the Nat Zoo Invert area ?
