  1. I already have a reef, my 156. Setting up a new 55 aggressive.
  2. I just bought live brine there this Wed, but do call before going since they do sell out.
  3. Before I switched to LED, I mounted Icecap660 and workshorse on a 2x4 right angle, then placed that in the cabinet.
  4. What of lighting should you use for LR in the sump / fydge ? I just have a CF from Lowes, cheato does great with it but what about the LR ?
  5. There has always been a Nitrate problem in my 156G that is connected to a 45G sump / fudge, filled with LR and cheato. It has lately been about 9 ppm. Started a BRS Reactor about 3 weeks ago, hoping that would make a difference soon. Sump before, with LR -> 3 days ago, I started up an aggressive 55G tank and moved all the LR from the 45G sump to the 55. In other words, I replaced the LR in the 45G with water. The Nitrate in the 156G is now about 25 ppm ! Now, there is one other change -> getting quite a lot more corals and a Hawkfish at last Sunday's meeting Is my Nitrate spike due to the LR with water swap ? If so, does that suggest the it is better to have more LR and more water vol ?
  6. I am wondering if it is ok to add a Feather Duster to an aggressive tank. What about other inverts like scallops, urchins and star fishes Currently have a Fuzzy lion, planing to add a snow flake eel, puffer and may a Angler or Frog fish
  7. You are hired ! Just leave your shoes at the front door and don't step on my fish tank . My wife is particular about the floors being clean and I misplaced my voltage probe
  8. Paul I've read that brine shrimp is "bad", no nutritional value for fishes, just like candy. What is your take on that ? I do know all my fishes go crazy over them. Mike
  9. Here's an older one of my previous Gramma. That was before that tank crashed, or more accurately - caught fire !
  10. Received the 2 Cobalts today. What a difference, totally quiet when hooked up to my Remora Box says Made in Italy, via Rock Hill, South Carolina ! So does anyone want to buy 2 lightly used MaxiJet 1200 ? Works fine as a power head, just not for skimmers due to backflow.
  11. Was that a typo on the price ? Even with 3 instead of 4 digits, it would be too expensive a life food for my Lion, I'll stay with Paul's blood worms
  12. I'm looking to add fish to my new 55 too. Where are you planing to get your fish from ?
  13. Worm keeper ? What is involved with that ? My wife exercises too but so do I Actually, she is the one always wanting to get live food for the fishes.
  14. Here's a pic of the two tanks Plan to place the 40 sump under the 55. If only I could have drilled the 55, then I could have the water flow from the 156 to the 55 down to the sump below it, thru the skimmer then have the clean water return to the 156. Smallreef suggested a moving the water from the 55 to the sump below it via siphon. Not to confident about that though I am going thru that idea, looking for cons and fail points.
  15. about 1.5 ", just got it for a few months
  16. Stay Away from my cave
  17. Paint the egg crate ? Is that a good idea since it will be so close to salt water ? Would it not be an issue with salt creep mixing with it ( paint chips )and potentially falling into the tank ? Or am I just being paranoid ?
  18. I am trying to cut down on real estate so I'll rather not have another sump. Good point about only have to use I/O instead of Reef Crystals for the 55 but I do have 2 BTAs and GSP in there. I am a penny pincher and my wife calls me cheap but I'm too lazy to have to deal with 2 different types of salt
  19. That's a great idea, using one instead of both of the 156 overflows to feed the 55. Yes, I did design the 55's stand so that is would allow for the 156's overflow to feed to it via gravity.
  20. Can you please also PM me the electrician's info too ?
  21. More filtration from the a single skimmer - Deltec is currently only running on one of it's 2 pumps because that's a I need for the 156. Plan to run both pumps if I hook up the 55 too. I am assuming that this is better for the 55 with than just 1 hang on back AquaC. My 156 LR is placed in the middle so that my fishes can do laps, by moving the sump away from it's current position to under the 55, I free up the space behind the 156 for better viewing / space / easier access to back area of 156. I am going to replace my tubes with PVC so I thought this would be a good time to change things. The other big assumption is that the larger the total volume of water and the larger the total LR , the better.
  22. So does anyone know of a LFS in N Va that has live worms ?
  23. Another classic Rob's marine adventure ! You should write a book
  24. I was going to elevate the skimmer, just high enough to have the water from the 156 still flow to it via gravity, it will than flow to the 55 which is just below the skimmer's return. I had sized the height of the 55's home made stand for this. This is why the 55 is a little lower than the 156's water line at the overflow.
  25. That is exactly what I have crying out at the back of my mind ! This is why I have not done anything yet. Might just get another remora to hang behind the 55. I could have the water go from the 156 to the 55 then to the skimmer then back to the 156. Would that solve this issue ?
