There has always been a Nitrate problem in my 156G that is connected to a 45G sump / fudge, filled with LR and cheato. It has lately been about 9 ppm. Started a BRS Reactor about 3 weeks ago, hoping that would make a difference soon.
Sump before, with LR ->
3 days ago, I started up an aggressive 55G tank and moved all the LR from the 45G sump to the 55.
In other words, I replaced the LR in the 45G with water. The Nitrate in the 156G is now about 25 ppm !
Now, there is one other change -> getting quite a lot more corals and a Hawkfish at last Sunday's meeting
Is my Nitrate spike due to the LR with water swap ? If so, does that suggest the it is better to have more LR and more water vol ?
