  1. I has a small Bubble Tip Anemone, BTA, for my pair of clown fushes. About over a month ago I introduced some Urchins to the tank. We went away for the weekend and now the BTA has disappeared. I do have lots of LR and maybe it move somewhere. Is it possible that the urchins may have eaten it? I used to have BTAs and Urchins coexist for many years before the urchins died. Appreciate your thoughts. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  2. Having recently retired, I am trying to restore my 13 year old reef to it's former glory. It has been a primarily fish only tank with a few leathers that neglect failed to kill. I have some old B-Ionic Calcium Buffer from about 3 years ago. It's the concentrate and has been stored in a cool place, has been opened. There is no expiration date on it. Is it safe to use ? Appreciate your thoughts.
  3. I have read in other forums that some found that these block may dissolve to sand after 6 months or so.. Have any of you experienced that ? Could it be that these folks put them in a high flow area ?
  4. Has anyone tried using a Denitrification Brick to control nitrates ? see -> Brightwell Aquatics - HemiXSpheres Available at BRS -> Xport-NO3 Biological Filtration Dimpled Brick - Brightwell Aquatics - Bulk Reef Supply Any possibility to negative effects on life stock ?
  5. Pic of the back of my setup. Chaeto in right hand corner of sump.
  6. My fuge is behind the tank so light from the chaeto gets on the back of the tank. My tank has LF in the middle so that fishes can do laps. Does it matter to the fish that they don't get any complete darkness ?
  7. Trying to grow chaeto to lower my nitrates, about 20ppm. How long do you guys leave the light for your chaeto on ? How important is total darkness?
  8. I live nearby, are theses still available? Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  9. I do have a stray voltage probe Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  10. Reading Humble fish, it is definitely not Velvet. None of the fishes that died had the symptoms of velvet. Sailfin continues to get better and all other fishes are fine. Hopefully the grime reaper has left the tank. I do have a question about treating fishes with chemicals in the primary tank when it is not possible to catch the fish to put in a QT. I had to turn the skimmer off when I dosed the medicine because the skimmer overflowed. With the skimmer off, there is no oxygen bubbles. How long can you leave the tank with no aeration ? In my case, I turned the skimmer off for 3 hrs to let the medicine "work", Then I spent the next few hours dealing with the skimmer overflowing. I had to top off about 10 gallons of water, making sure not to change the salinity, I am now running the tank a 1.020 SG, subscribing to the theory that lower salinity will help kill parasites. What SG do most of you keep a primary FO tank?
  11. Does valvet eventually affect all fishes in the tank? If so what should I do? The sailfin is behaving much better, swimming around and eating. Just not as much as before. All other fishes are still behaving normally. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  12. Yes, a hawkfish that is doing fine.
  13. What is ICP? My tank has been on auto run for years with no issues so I am out of touch with current acronyms Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  14. Water parameter are ok. All fishes eating but Sailfin was eating but not zipping around as normal during feeding time. Clown stopped eating day before dying, larger died and I can't find the body of the mate, which I assume is dead, probably from heart break. Flame angle died very suddenly, the first to go. we thought it was old age since it was more than 10 years old. Klein died very suddenly. It was more than 10 years old. Coral beauty had fin rot for about 3 days before dying. Besides tons of water change, I am trying Imagitarium's Parasite Remedy. But I guess my skimmer is working too well as it goes into over drive (overflowing) the moment I put that in. I did turn the skimmer off for 3 hrs this afternoon, hoping that the medicine would have a change to take effect.
  15. Has anyone used this before ? It is causing my skimmer to overflow.
  16. Hippo, Koran & Hawkfish are fine. So are all inverts.
  17. Yes, breathing fine. Fins still "sail" Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk
  18. Over the last 2 weeks I have lost about 1 fish every 2 or 3 days. A roughly 10 year old Flame Angle, Klein Angle, Clown and recently purchased Coral beauty. The Hippo Blue, Koran, Hawkish and Yellow watchman are all behaving normally, looking great, My 10 year old Sailfin is beginning to show signs of illness, not as hyper as usual. Any idea why something is causing what would normally be hardy fishes to die but not affect typically more prone to issue fishes like the itch magnet Hippo ? I have done 30 gallon water changes daily for the past 4 days. My thank is 156G with 44 Gal Sump.
  19. What type of material is safe to use for in salt water without fear of corrosion or harm to reef inhabitants ? I have used egg creates, and of cause PVC pipes. The ideal water depth of the new skimmer (Bubble Magus Curve 7) I got is 11". My current sump setup has a water depth of 14" I would like to increase the water depth of my new skimmer by having it sit on a brick or 2x4 wood. That should make up for the 3" in height. Is it safe to put brick or wood in a reef setup ?
  20. I have a 13 year old Deltac 600, I think, skimmer. One pump is dead and the other keeps dying but I am able to revive it by taking it apart. I have not been able to find a replacement pump. Don't want to see the day when the only pump is dead. I am looking for a replacement skimmer but I have no idea what the current models are. Can someone recommend a skimmer for a 156G with a 40G sump (40G breeder) where my current skimmer sits in. Sump is behind and lower than the tank so height of skimmer should not be an issue. Living on a pension so hope spend about $600 and not $6000. Thanks in advance.
  21. Know of any cyber monday deals for marine stuff ?
  22. My 12 year old Deltac skimmer's pump is dying. There are two of them and one died a while ago but I have been able to survive with just one. Now that one is acting up. I am having a hard time finding the replacement pump. The model of the pump is DELTEC-DCS 600. The only website I can find this pump is reef-aquarium-store.com. It looks like a UK web site. (https://reef-aquarium-store.com/deltec-dcs-600-protein-skimmer-pump-for-deltec-mc-500) Has anyone deal with this web site before ? Any suggestion on a local internet dealer that has a good selection of pumps ? Can any of our local vendors get me this pump ? Appreciate any suggestions.
  23. My 156G is being overtaken by hair algae. Before I go buy a Sea Hare online I though I check if anyone has a Sea Hare they no longer want. I understand that once an aquarium is out of algae, it will starve and die. Also wondering if any one in the Fair Lakes / Centerville area is interested in a live fish group buy.
  24. My reef is over 10 years old but has been neglected until I recently retired. I have a BRS 5 stage RODI and I replaced all filters one year ago. TDS is getting embarrassingly high. I currently only have Leathers and other corals that don't care about water quality. Fishes are fine, Maroon clown is over 15 years old. I know you don't have to replace the membrane every year. What about the other 4 filters ? Should you change all 4 at the same time ? I have one 1 Micron Sediment, two 1micron Carbon Block and DI Resin Would changing the DI Resin alone be enough ?
  25. How do you know when your probe needs to be replaced ? Roughly how often do you guys replace your Ph Probes ? I know mine is over 3 years old, it that past end of live ?
