  1. Two big gripes many have with the mini are the notifications and lack of data logging (charts). To my understanding these will be remediated on an upcoming firmware update. I must say though... the lack of notifications has been a welcoming fault. With Apex, the sheer number of notifications I received daily kinda became background noise.
  2. At 150-185g depending on height, I’d agree with @howaboutme that you’d be fine. The closer you get to the outer wall, the more weight you’ll be able to support. So a 185g tank a few inches from the wall wouldn’t be a problem. If you follow the length of the metal beam, you will probably see vertical metal columns. Those areas will also be capable of supporting higher weight loads.
  3. Congrats Paul! Livestock still looking stunning.
  4. Yes, it does look like the full angle adapter mounts using the screws at the back of the light. And I must agree, it doesn’t look like it could pivot 90 degrees so the light won’t be horizontal. Now I am seeing your dilemma. The narrow adapter does look to be the best bet providing the hole’s diameter is large enough. If it is, you’ll only need to mount it about 9.5” to get the full 10x10” coverage so you should be able to use your current gooseneck. Well I was absolutely no help, hopefully someone with the adapter will be able to chime in.
  5. Alan, what type of measurements were you interested in? I don’t have the narrow adapter but I knowing that it has a 55 degree beam angle, I should be able to provide theoretical numbers if you’re looking for coverage/spill info. What area the dimensions of the aquarium you are attempting to light? You will also have to get creative to mount the narrow adapter as I doubt the A80 has the necessary mounting magnets built in. Lastly, the A80 is able to utilize the Kessil mounting arm using the “full angle adapter”. That’ll allow you to mount it closer to the water level.
  6. Ulva. Herbivores readily eat it so if you have tangs in your DT, they’ll eat it before I you even realize it’s in your system.
  7. The biological route is usually a gamble but if the peppermint shrimps survive, they’ll eventually help knock them back (and usually the most cost effective route). If you’re going the chemical route I’ve had the best luck with Frank’s F-Aiptasia (this is the first thing I’ve used that didn’t cause them to spread when caught early).
  8. A NYOS 120 may be a little small for your system. If upgrading to the 160 is out of the question, the next thing would be adding some socks and and a carbon reactor (until you’re able to source some clean algae). There’s also numerous members that’ll give you Chaeto for free, but with you being in PA I don’t know if you’ll want to make the drive.
  9. Welcome to the group and the hobby! A good starting place is a foot print of around 24x24” or 24x48” depending on your space. It’ll be easier to find lighting for those general coverage areas.
  10. If it’s smaller projects I usually just get it off of Amazon. There’re tons of vendors that sell cast acrylic.
  11. Definitely a nice scape! How tall is the left structure in relation to the tank?
  12. They’re nice, especially the last one!
  13. Hope all is well with you now. The colors look extraordinary on those sticks. Any pics of your new mushrooms? I bought a Sunkist Bounce a few months ago and now it looks like I have been bitten by the bounce bug lol. After getting a PZ Godspawn and Frankenstein I told myself no more until Christmas.
  14. Nice looking group of angels. Lately the trend seemed to favor more tangs. We’re they all in your previous system?
  15. A couple years ago, I actually stopped using filter socks all together (partially because I hated cleaning them). About 6 months ago I finally cleaned my sump and installed a Klir drop-in fleece roller. Despite a couple gripes with this system, I definitely love it and do not see myself ever using socks again. If you are building a system, I’d suggest planning for one before actually setting up the tank.
  16. Welcome to the group. You’ll find a number of really knowledgeable and helpful individuals here, so don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  17. Video didn’t load for me. I’d keep he gyre mounted on wall opposite overflow (or weir). If it is sucking air try dropping it a little lower in the tank. I have mine mounted so that the top of the outside magnet is about 1.5” off the surface of the water. If the bubbles were just trapped within the body of the gyre, it’ll work itself out. Mine usually fully dissipate within a few minutes. By keeping it mounted horizontally, it’ll help with evaporation (to reduce heat in tank) as well as aid in Oxygen/Co2 transfer with the room.
  18. About a month in and already wet! Progressing pretty quickly. Give much thought to what fish (and corals) you’ll be putting in there?
  19. That birdsnest sure has grown. Tank is looking nice. What is that yellow Acro in the lower left on the smaller rock?
  20. Looking nice, loving the scape! This might be obvious, but why did you that piece of PVC in your ATO container?
