  2. Can anyone tell me if there’s anything visually missing, or not correct about this skimmer, or does it appear to be in order? It has the collection cup, I just took it off, and I do see that the airline tube on the left side isn’t plugged into the nozzle at the bottom. I just don’t know if anything is supposed to go where I circled in yellow, or if they’re supposed to stay just wide open like that? I’m familiar with Somewhat similar skimmers, which I feel like definitely have what would be equivalently missing from this one.
  3. I have a Berlin x2 Venturi skimmer which i tried setting up, since I’ve recently been having problems with my, and the 2 new seaclone skimmers i got, but even though it SEEMS to be working, I can’t get any air to go in. I can’t find any troubleshooting info, or even detailed set-up instructions, and since everything looks fine, I have no idea what to do with it. Does anyone have experience with them, and any thoughts on troubleshooting for air not going in? *does anyone have any general thoughts about this type of skimmer? I never really used it, as I got a better one right after I got this real cheap, so I didn’t even get a chance to see how well worked. Or obviously, familiar enough with it to figure out what’s wrong with it, now. the picture is exactly what I have, with all the exact same parts/pieces. I actually somehow can’t find a real photo of the EXACT skimmer/model even though I know it was not an obscure skimmer. And mine appears to be in exactly the same situation/set-up as the picture. *i have the correct pump for it, that’s working perfectly fine. Mine didn’t come with the pump, but I looked into it, and it’s the exact one it is supposed to have, and I DID actually set it up and see it run correctly, with the air working, back in the day when I first got it, but for less than a day.
  4. I just got a free skimmer from work. They replaced it because part of the inside parts is broken so it doesn't work well. I don't even know what kind of skimmer it is, so I have no idea if one can replace the internal parts. Does anyone know?
  5. Hi Wamas! I have this gurgle sound coming from My Reef Octopus 3000 the sound is coming from the air intake .. I have removed the air tube checked if its clogged and reinstalled it but its making that gurgle sound (Side Note: the Skimmer has overflown 3 times in the last two weeks) Any Advice ..
  6. I need a hang-on skimmer for a 75. I am replacing a CPR bakpak. Any suggestions? thank you.
  7. Hey Guys, I need some help with my CS1 skimmer. It has been running for some time now and it is still going a little crazy, to the point that I cannot even place the collection cup on the skimmer since it overflows. The skimmate is very wet. I see a decent amount of bubbles in the cone and the water line in the SUMP is a little above where the cone starts. Am I doing something wrong? What is the optimal water level? Thanks, Matt

  9. Just a little while ago I discovered water all over my floor. When I looked, I discovered that the protein skimmer was overflowing. It filled up the overflow reservoir and water was leaking from that. That's never happened before and I've had this tank 7 years. Well, I cleaned the whole thing up and then started the skimmer again and it began to over-foam and over-fill again. I quickly adjusted the air-intake valve and got it under control. I'm trying to figure out what I may have done to cause the problem. The only thing I did today was add some Seachem Stress Guard to the tank. Can this cause the skimmer to overflow? If so, if I use it again, I'll turn the skimmer off for awhile and then monitor it when I turn it back on. Does anybody have any hunches about this? Thanks. Mark
  10. Hey guy I have an old school GSA GS1 running and I must say I am very impressed with it's performance. That is saying a lot coming from a skimmer junkie like me If you have a GSA solution still running on your system . Please post your thoughts. Remember no pics not true !!! Happy Reefing
  11. I got my skimmer, along with the rest of my 75 gallon DT basic setup, from another reefer; there are no readily-identifiable markings on it but I believe it is an ASM (G-1X/G-2?) or Euro-Reef model. The pump it came with is a Sedra 7500, which apparently is no longer manufactured, and its impeller is beginning to bind. I don't know if the impellers for the other Sedra pumps (3500/5000/9000) would be compatible, nor can I tell if it's just the impeller or if there is some expansion in the pump cavity it spins within. The latter, naturally, would require replacement of the entire pump, not just the impeller. SO, if anyone knows (and/or can point me to) the answers to any or all of the following questions, I'd appreciate the input. - 1) which, if any, of the replacement needle-wheel impellers for other Sedra pumps are compatible with the 7500? - 2) are any of the other Sedra pumps (e.g. 3500/5000/9000) "plug and play" the way the 7500 is for these skimmers? -- 2a) if so, which? -- 2b) assuming, for the moment, that one or more of these other pumps ARE compatible, since the series number seems to indicate output (e.g., the 7500=750 GPH), how much performance hit would I take with the smaller (3500/5000) pumps, and conversely, would the 9000 be too much to handle? - 3) what, if any, other pumps would be more or less "plug and play" like the Sedra(s) at a similar flow rate as the 7500? I've done some looking around online but just can't tell. Thanks all!
  12. What's the best skimmer to put in the back of a Red Sea MAX130. I really don't hardware outside the tank, behind, under, no place. Your input would be appreciated. Said best skimmer, but on restricted budget, so please take that into consideration.

    DIY Nano Skimmer

My DIY nano skimmer is working well
  15. I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but I need you folks to help me decide. I know lots of you have been in the hobby a lot longer than I have, and with that "time on the pond" you have learned what you like and what you don't like about items... I need your experienced help placing an order. I am looking to buy a new skimmer in the next day or two. I am currently using my old SWC, which is actually doing a good job, but is old and unreliable. I would like to run a new skimmer and have the SWC as an emergency backup. I have a large area in the sump, so space isn't an issue... and my total water volume is about 220. I would like to have a skimmer that could handle at least 300gal. My max budget is about $800. What is the best skimmer I can get for my tank under $800?
  16. Hey in the past I have always used Tunze skimmers. Since returning to Reef Keeping there have been a lot of changes in the game. I have a chance to obtain this skimmer for free, but I had planned to use my Avast CS1 for now and with the mixed reviews on the CS2 Black Pearl I think I wont be going that route so please chime in on this one before I make the long trip for PU. 17. Does anyone know if there is a kit or instructions on converting a CS1 Recirculating Skimmer to an external skimmer?
  18. Is it possible to get a CS3 with the Captain's Reserve color scheme.
  19. About 3 weeks ago I removed my Skimmer out of my sump and Cleaned that bad boy really well removing all the pieces apart then put it back together. I also vaccumed all the water out from the skimmer compartment and put new fresh water in. Since then my skimmer is not producing that nasty dark foam that used to. What is going on ?? I understand the skimmer needs some time to break in again but it's been about 3 weeks since I cleaned. It's a SW Skimmer btw. Any thoughts are helpful. Thanks a lot in advance.
