  1. LOL I admit you got me too!
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqJafccQQbI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HeNy9aWm6I There's a couple video showing how to do it.I've done basically the same thing in the past and it seemed to work fine.
  3. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/12/20454733-sticky-situation-hawaii-molasses-spill-killing-thousands-of-fish?lite This is crazy - something like 200k + gallons of molasses spilled killing massive amounts of fish.
  4. Would love to sit in on this John!
  5. Pure Genius! Love the idea of snagging hair dryers from a yard sale - bet you could get them for a few bucks and much cheaper than the plugs.
  6. That's good thinking! We have all that along with a soon to be purchased deep cycle marine battery. I might have to take a trip away from camp to get a signal at the right time though! HAHA
  7. I don't have answers to everything, but as to can you run both kalk and two-part: Absolutely! Kalk is nice and cheap and a great way to do your dosing. Kalk is also a balanced calcium and alkalinity additive. If you need to make any adjustments, you can do so with your two-part solutions or supplement with two-part if the kalk isn't keeping up with demands. If you don't want to get a kalk reactor, you can just dump the right amount of kalk into your topoff water container, give it a mix and let it settle. You do NOT need to keep mixing. You want to dose the super-saturated kalk solution but not all the sludge that gets left at the bottom. I don't remember all the why's or why not's however. Good luck from a kalk user
  8. My wife might kill me if I told her we need to cancel our camping trip so that I can sit at the computer all day to try to snag corals. Might.... I have to think about this!
  9. Agree with everything said here - Steve and Vince are second to none.
  10. Water is flowing through the frag tank now too! Also got the manifold providing water to the recirc Avast skimmer and have the manifold ready to supply water to my GFO/Carbon reactor. It's all being run off of a DC10000 pump - I'd love to get a flow meter to measure how much water is coming out of this thing. The manifold is powering the following: - Two Display Tank Returns - Frag Tank Return - Return to Refugium - Skimmer - GFO/Carbon Reactor once I turn it on The powerhead in the frag tank is a Colbalt Neo-Flow 10000 I picked up at Quantum Reefs last weekend. I got two of them and put one in the frag tank - it seems to do a great job of pushing water around - when I was making salt water, I filled up the frag tank with RO/DI water and added salt. The salt was easily getting pushed from one of the 4-foot tank to the other. I added the second Cobalt to the display tank today to get some additional flow across the back of the tank and it made a very noticable difference even though I already have a Tunze 6105 and MP40 going at full blast in the tank. If these pumps hold up well, and I don't see why it wouldn't, it's a Colbalt, I think this will be a great little pump to have around.
  11. Tank looks awsome man - great job!
  12. Hopefully getting plumbing done today. Did some of it last weekend but needed more parts and didn't want to go out again - made a trip to Home Depot this morning and I *think* I have everything I need! Wish me luck!!
  13. Very nice size - looking forward to seeing it come to life!
  14. Maybe try one of those super strong magnets (hammer head or somtehing like that?) and just use a thicker magic eraser?
  15. I've only had a Biocube, but if I were do get an AIO again I'd take a serious look at those Nuvo's - they just look nice to me. Definately take a swing by Quantum Reefs to see them in person.
  16. The frag tank in process. Got the painting completed on the frag tank stand today and put it in place. There's a rat's nest of wires at the base right now that I didn't take a photo of, but suffice it to say, this stand isn't going anywhere! Although I may add a tie-back to the wall behind it since the top of the tank is about 42 or 44 inches tall. The tank is a 45 gallon deep blue profesional frag tank with a footprint of 48 x 18. At only a foot tall, I thought it about perfect to go over my 75 gallon sump. The frag tank will be lit with a pair of D120's. I also still need to drill a pair of holes in the tank for the return and drain. I'm considering going with a glassholes overflow too.
  17. Yes, I'm sure. This is what I have.
  18. I got them opening day at Quantum Reefs.
  19. I bought 6 blue reef chromis several months ago and still have five of them. I haven't noticed any aggression in them at all. I *thought* they did best in small groups - but I'm not 100% sure on that. Been a while since I did my research on them.
  20. I think Quantum Reefs sells their stuff.
  21. hey everyone. The lights are doing great still. Colors of the corals are great under the lights too. The tort hasn't grown much yet but is still doing well. Color is looking great though Paul!
  22. My experience is limited to one fish, but based on that one fish I'd agree 100% with Rob regarding being a community fish.
  23. Way cool Scott. you actually lasted longer than I thought you would!
  24. My Dad's tank is on the main floor of his house with the sump in his basement. We recently installed a manifold to the system and the bleed off of multuple feeds (display, frag tank, refugium) makes his current pump (a Pan World 200 PS) too small. So the search for a new pump is on! The two leading choices so far, for the few pumps we've looked at, are the Pan World 250 PS or the Reeflo Manta. The Pan World looks like it should *just* work while the Reeflo would have room to spare. Of course the Reeflo also uses about twice as much electricity! Does anyone have any recomendations regarding these or other high-head-pressure pumps? Thanks!
  25. I don't know about the spread on the radions, but the Chinese 120W leds that are all over the place seem to do pretty well with a 24" x 24" foot print. I have four of them over my 200 and there's more than enough light to grow anything I could want - I even have some SPS on the sand bed (27" tall tank with ~2" of sand) that are doing quite well - and my led's are only up to 70% right now. All that said, I'd think the three radion units should be just fine on a typical 180 sized tank.
