It's normal for the skimmer to freak out like that on a new sock. You don't need to do a water change, but you should rinse all new filter socks first. The skimmer should settle down soon. If it doesn't, remove the sock, rinse it thoroughly and try again.

I also think it depends on where your nutrient levels are. If you are fighting algae and have nitrates through the roof you might try rinsing while you figure out where the problem is and then once things are under control, stop. If your phosphate and nitrates are under control or 0, then I think they serve a purpose in feeding the tank. But yeah, there are no "rules" only suggestions from the most recent awesome tank you've seen.

I have been struggling to keep sps for years and I think my main problem has always been stability. I was not great about mainitaing my water quality so alk, calcium and even salinity was unstable. I took a break and just focused on my lps for a while. Recently I have committed to a "clean" tank and was dosing Redsea nopox to achieve that. My sps seem to be happier, coloring up and growing. I recently started dosing reef energy A and B to see if adding some "coral nutrition" i could get good growth and color. So far things are going well, but since I was starting with brown or dead, things could only get better. Does PE always mean healthier? I like PE because I think it looks nicer but I am not sure if PE absolutely indicates health? What is PE means the corals are starving? Excellent conversation.

How big is your tank? Could be the clowns, they are very territorial. I would remove the six line. He needs time to recover Ina safe tank. Also may not be able to add him back if he's getting beat up so bad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree that if you broadcast feed a good food in your tank you do not need to feed the nem directly. Mine are huge and split on occasion and I never target feed.

Yeah, thats where i"m getting my culture info. Amphibian and Reptile people culture maggots and flies all the time. I MAY have set a piece of duck neck out this afternoon to see what happens. Stole it from the dogs dinner :-)
