  1. That's a crazy amount of alk if you're not using up calcium.
  2. I agree with what Zygote recommends. You probably need a bigger skimmer. You also don't have any herbivores that will eat algae off the rocks. Once you get it under control an algae eating fish will help keep it under control. I used fluconazole to help get rid of bryopsis and it also got rid of my GHA. I also added a large rabbit fish to assist. Good luck.
  3. I use a rubber band to tie the algae to a rock and drop it in. Easy to fish out when they are done and no un eaten rotting pieces. I have to replace the rubber band when it falls apart and breaks.
  4. Could it be Kalk / Alk precipitation?
  5. 20 mg/g 1 dose on day one. No water changes, although I am planning one now. I don't run carbon or anything else. I took my skimmer off line and removed my filter sock. There are some small patches of hair algae around still. Before: After
  6. So, I treated my tank about 10 days ago. I had some persistent bryopsiss that I couldn't get manually and didn't die off with high Mg and a fair amount of hair algae. It's all gone. I have a bare bottom tank so no sand to deal with and my skimmer was off the entire time.
  7. No stalks, but I think leptastrea is correct. Thanks so much!
  8. I can't remember what this is. Anyone?
  9. Thanks everyone. I regret that I did not do more during my time as VP but some unexpected life turns got in the way. Luckily for me, and for the club, we have an incredible group of people who were able to pick up my slack. Alan is going to be an awesome VP, and if he tries to take over the raffle he's gonna regret it.
  10. We found a bag of coral that was left behind at the meeting. If you left a bag behind ( and can descibe it's contents with some accuracy) please let us know! I have your corals in my sump on Arlington VA. Not going to unbag them just yet.
  11. Is the regal 300 in sump or stand alone?
  12. I think the need for a skimmer has more to do with bio load than water volume, but of course a larger volume allows for a larger bioload. Keep the bioload low and the water changes frequent and I'll bet you'll be fine. Until you add too much stuff.
  13. Wow, thats crazy. Hope life gets back to normal soon!
  14. Thank everyone. It's still skimming wet, and three inches higher but at least it's skimming! I have two more days to get it dialed in a bit better before I leave. Definitely was a problem with whatever got sucked into the pump. I am pretty sure it was the white sump sponge that was growing and must have become dislodged during maintenance. I cleaned it out of the pump but did not think to clean the rest of the skimmer and the outflow. Cleaning the out flow seems to have helped. I also think it was underperforming and clearing the pumps put it into over drive. As usual, the community comes to the rescue.
  15. Congrats! That is so awesome.
  16. When I was doing maintenance on the weekend I checked the pumps and there was some crap in one of the skimmer pumps. (It has 2). Not sure what it was, may have been a soggy piece of paper towel. ( I had a "helper" that day). I removed it and then the torrent began. If I close the air tubes the water flow explodes. I haven't checked the output.... on my way. After raising the skimmer body about 3 inches I am now getting a very wet skim mate. Thanks for all of the help.
  17. Help! My skimmer has been overflowing since I did a water change last weekend. When I did the water change I moved a bunch of stuff around and generally messed up the tank. So I took the cup off of the skimmer and gave it a few days to settle down, but it hasn't. Today I raised it another 2 inches, scrubbed any sludge from the sides and generally checked it over. No luck. Main problem: of course I'm leaving for vacation on Saturday and need to get this thing dialed in. So: hit me with your top 3 things to check when you skimmer goes nuts. The forces of Murphy's Law are quadrupled the minute you start dealing with a reef tank.
