  1. Nice pickup Billy! I can't wait to see how Chris's looks next to mine. I can't believe how many tentacles those have for how small they are!
  2. Nice picture Billy! When I get the camera out again I am going to try and get the Purples, Blues, and Reds together.
  3. Roll on latex. I'd use something that is pretty durable and doesn't scratch too easily. I scrape my back glass of coraline, so I don't like seeing little scratches in the black paint
  4. It works good for me too. I pull up the DNS info on my phone since it isn't "fully" enabled, and it still works great to get all the info.
  5. +1 +1 to Darrens picture. My melting pot looks about the same. My guess is that its a powerbrite picture with photoshop.
  6. Alkalinity I like Salifert. Calcium I go with the cheapest - API I also use another brand (any other is fine - just need a 2nd one) of test to test the Alkalinty. I do this just because I have found that alkalinity is the key for me as far as stability of the system and growth/happiness of my corals. Moreso for LPS.
  7. Here is the new tank build thread on RC, I'll be updating it there if anyone wants to check it out I'll be updating it there, but here are some quick shots of the progress This is the entertainment area with a 55" LED and fireplace. The stair walls are going to be cut down so you can see through to the room on the right and the tank. The tank will be where the dolly is. Some quick pictures before the drywall finishers get here
  8. Thanks for the reminder. I kind of spaced on that part. I don't mind the cable burning up my verizon box so much though lol I guess some of those will have to stay either way then. I'll probably install it since the price/protection is there. $80/$50,000 doesn't seem like a bad investment even if it just saves one thing, or just gives it longer life.
  9. +1 Reefing is also one of those hobbies that also LOOKS really cool, but takes more time, patience, and passion then some people are willing to give over the duration. I'm surprised the turnover isn't higher. Which it actually probably is, we just don't see it since the people that join a club site usually have more success and enjoy the hobby more since there are people to enjoy it with.
  10. Thanks! I guess I could have typed in Surge in the search I would guess there are different levels of protection. I'm going to ask my electrician what he thinks about this and go from there. I either want to be covered 100% throughout the house and not have to use the $50 surge strips on my LED/PLASMA/LCD's, computers, ect. or just don't put this in at all. In other words, I don't want a false sense of protection
  11. I'm diggin' them Chris! The male has ADHD like mine lol
  12. I didn't even think to set mine. I guess I'll have to try that next time I get the camera out. Does yours say "white balance setting" or something like it Bob? I wonder how to get mine to set it. I know I can adjust it to the left or the right (darkens or lightens it), but I haven't seen a setting that says "set the wb". Of to google....
  13. +1 It looks like a jellyfish swimming! Pretty neat. Saltwater never ceases to amaze me...
  14. Whole house surge protector for generator/panel Where can I get one? Someone posted before, but I can't find it (Drywall is getting hung today - wooo hooo - basement is coming along) I also got a new little friend coming for my new tank - pics soon
  15. I would still post a fair assessment of the situation. This might help guys get a better idea of the type of person they are dealing with. Personally I would have expected him to agree to send SOMETHING out. Anything is better than nothing when it comes to taking care of any type of issues like this. I have sent out replacement frags 2-3x for miscellaneous issues like this. Even though it is the my miami and he was probably cutting a frag of a frag. I would have expected him to at least replace it with something half way decent. I have done this when selling/trading stuff with other vendors too. I look at it as part of doing business with live animals. You can't just say "eat the loss", when it is a shipping delay and no fault of either person doing the deal. Thats just my feeling on it. Sorry to hear that he's kind of just blowing you off. He's fragging a frag almost guaranteed. So I doubt he has anymore right now. No shipper will cover dead loss of live animals like this.
  16. I would be pretty upset too. Especially if getting that type of response from the seller. Healed for however long, I know that they come super tiny if you aren't buying it from Jason or Victor (or Chris). So even if it is healed for a month, I doubt it would survive any type of shipping delay. I ask all the sellers of stuff I buy to hold onto things until they have fully developed rims, that way there is no doubt that it is healed and worthy of shipping. I do the same when I ship out. My frag of the My Miami is sitting until it is fully healed since I know its small and probably wouldn't ship well. At least the other 3 are doing alright. It could have been a total loss. I feel your pain though. To loose anything before you even get it sucks, especially when you shelled out $1000. Hopefully they will pull through for you and you guys can work something out.
  17. I guess they must have switched the issue with the powerbar. I run 4x250w in 1,2,3,4 then misc stuff on the others. +1 on interference. I would double check that just in case. Its also a good idea to check the wattage peak draw if you can. I picked up a killawatt meter for $20 to check mine.
  18. I would call Curt at Neptune and see. He can also help with the problem that you are currently having. You should be able to run a lot more power than that through your DC8. I have ~ 13a running through mine right now. I'm on an Apex, but the powerbar is the same electronically. There are 2 plugs that aren't supposed to exceed x amount of amperage, but I don't think it is only 2amps.
  19. +1 - And harder to catch I bet I'd also want a younger one if I was spending that much money - that way I would have a good guestimate that it would live longer. I've seen some nice Gems come in lately. I wish they were not so expensive :(
  20. He's probably just stressed from the new tank mate is all. I'd just wait a week or so and see if he calms down.
  21. Are you feeding nori and a varied diet? I'd do that if you aren't. That and maybe add selcon or something to its food. My Tangs have done that in the past when adding a new tank mate. I usually upped their intake and added more varied foods and feeding periods (from 2-3) throughout the day to help divert their interest in each other, and more to the food.
  22. I haven't known anyone with a coral beauty that didn't end up snacking on polyps. But you usually hear about the people with problems vs. ones that are good tank mates.
  23. Fedex won't cover live animals - no shipper will actually.
